Bonn Dress | mixing fabrics

Ando para vos mostrar este vestido há um par de semanas. Tinha-o imaginado desde Novembro, mas foi sendo adiado, adiado... Na verdade, a vontade de o fazer já vem de bem mais atrás, logo em 2016, quando testei o molde, na altura versão camisa, fiquei com vontade de o fazer novamente. A ideia de o fazer na versão vestido é que é mais recente. 

I've been wanting to show you this dress for a couple of weeks. I had imagined it since November, but was postponed multiple times... In reality, the will to make it has been here from far, far behind, when in 2016 I tested this pattern, back then in the shirt option. The idea of making the dress version is more recent though. 

Na altura em que publiquei a camisa, comentei que não é a peça de roupa que mais gosto, no entanto, desde então, comecei a gostar um pouco mais. Os vestidos camiseiros, são uma peça que me foram chamando a atenção gradualmente, e assim nasceu a minha vontade de fazer um. 

Back when I posted the shirt, I mentioned this is not one of my fave garments to wear, still, my taste has slightly changed since then. Button-up dresses, are part of the reason I graduatelly changed my mind about it and that's why I planned on making myself one. 

Procurei nos vários moldes de revistas que tenho, mas no fim achei que o Bonn Shirt and Dress da Itch to Stitch, era mesmo o ideal para o que eu pretendia fazer e por isso, a minha escolha recaiu sobre ele. Desta vez porém, em vez de fazer o tamanho mais pequeno, fiz o outro a seguir e fiquei bem mais satisfeita do que com a camisa. Tenho movimentos mais livres. 

I searched through my magazine patterns, but in the end, Itch to Stitch's Bonn Shirt and Dress pattern, was right what I had in mind, and so I used it. This time though, I did make a bigger number instead of the smaller as I did for the shirt, and I am glad I did because I do move better in this one. 

Já na altura, tinha comentado que a fazer uma nova camisa, teria de ajustar a altura por ser baixinha. E foi o que fiz com o vestido. Não só retirei uns 2,5cm na linha da cintura, como depois ainda tirei mais ou menos o mesmo na bainha para aproveitar o tecido ao máximo. Usei três diferentes e não sabia muito bem se ia dar bom resultado ou não. Até cheguei a perguntar a opinião a quem me segue pelo IG. Ainda assim fui em frente. 

Also back then, I mention I should cut it shorter if I was making it again, so I did this time. I took about 1" off the waist line but I also cut off about another inch in the hem to make the most out of the fabric I had. I used three different fabric pieces and I wasn't too sure this would work, I even asked about it on my IG. I still went for it though. 

Antes de mais nada, sabia que o queria tons escuros que são os meus preferidos, são poucas as cores vivas que gosto realmente. Depois desde que o recebi que sabia que queria usar o tecido das chaves em algo para mim, no entanto, só tinha tipo uns 30-40cm dele. Fez parte da tal caixa com tecidos que me enviaram há um par de anos. Assim que arrisquei a cortar apenas uma das frentes do vestido neste tecido (que penso ser um crepe), usando-o a contra-fio, cruzando os dedos para que resultasse. 

Before hand, I knew I wanted dark tones as these are my top choice, there are little bright colors I enjoy. Then, after I got this key fabric I knew I wanted to use it on something for myself, but it was only about 12"-15" long. It came to me with a box of fabric I was donated a couple of years ago. So I took the risk and went with just one of the front pieces in this fabric (which I believe to be a crepe), using it contrary to the grainline and crossing my fingers so it'd work. 

Além desse tecido, usei uma cambraia muito leve que tinha comprado há alguns anos localmente. O problema é que era um retalho e parte do fundo do tecido estava escrito. Para o aproveitar ao máximo precisei de encurtar na altura do vestido e também fazer o cinto em duas peças em vez de uma e mais estreito do que no molde. O terceiro e último tecido, foi a organza que usei nas mangas, que também não abundava porque foi o que sobrou da túnica da miúda. 

Apart from that fabric, I used a very light batiste that I had bought locally many years so. The problem with this one was that it was just a scrap and part of it was written on. To make the most of thi, I shortened the lenght of the dress, and also used two pieces instead of one to make the belt, besides making it narrower too. The third fabric was this black organza that wasn't much either, it was what was left after making my daughter's top, and was now used for the sleeves. 

Alguns detalhes do vestido acima. O tecido das chaves usei-o também na gola e nos punhos. O cinto é colocado na cintura com aselhas de linha aos lados, e estes botões! Há cerca de um mês recebi uma "herança" de uma senhora falecida, que guardou botões numa lata de biscoitos grande durante toda a vida. Havia tantos, e tão bonitos. 

Some details from the dress above. The keys fabric was also used in the collar and bottom sleeves. The belt is attached to the waist by this thread eyelet, and these buttons! About a month ago I sort of got a "heritage" from an old deceased lady who saved buttons in a cookies tin all her life. There were so many, and so pretty.

Antes de escrever este post fui ler o semelhante dos anos anteriores (de 2013 a 2015), e é engraçado como a maior parte das decisões que tomei, principalmente em 2015 se enquadram naquilo que pensava escrever este ano também. Aparentemente não foi em 2016 que a minha motivação entrou em queda, e sim a meio do ano anterior. Desde então que tenho tido uns altos e baixos, parece até que essa motivação se tornou bipolar. Enfim... Hoje reflito nisso tudo, e vou deixar por escrito o que espero para 2018 no que toca às minhas costuras e a este blog. 

Before I started writting this post, I went back and read the similar ones from previous years (from 2013 to 2015), and it's funny how most of the decisions I made back then are quite similar to what I was going to write this year as well. Apparently it was not in 2016 that my sewing mojo went on holidays, but in the middle of the previous year. Ever since, I had ups and downs, like my mojo has suddenly turned bipolar. Oh well... I reflict on all that today, and I'll write down what I hope for 2018 as for my sewing and blog is concerned. 

#1. Nada de compras!- Este é um dos meus maiores objetivos para o próximo ano. Em 2013 desafiei-me a não comprar mesmo nada a não ser que fosse mesmo, mesmo, mesmo necessário. Desde então tentei manter o hábito mas mais descontraidamente. Durante 2017, não posso dizer que me tenha portado mal, os tecidos acima foram os únicos que comprei (os que já usei têm um "X"), mais dois outros que usei num pufe que fiz para o meu sobrinho, e renda para o soutien, aos quais não tirei foto, ainda assim, dei por mim a comprar alguns tecidos sem necessidade nenhuma, apenas por impulso.  

#1. No buying / Sew from my stash - This is one of my main goals for the next year. Back in 2013 I challenged myself to stop buying unless I really really really needed to. Ever since I tried to keep the habit but in a more relaxed way. Through 2017, I can't say I didn't behave, the fabrics pictured above were the only ones I bough (the ones with the "X" are the ones I used already), plus two other I bought to make my nephew a puff, and the lace for the bra but failed to picture, still, I know I bought a few of these on an impulse, no real need. 

#2. Reciclar/Transformar mais! - Não tenho reciclado tanto este ano, foquei-me mais em baixar a pilha de tecidos que tenho em stock e as roupas que tenho para reaproveitar foram ficando encostadas. Entraram mais algumas para a pilha que me foram dadas, tirei algumas pelas quais já não sentia conexão nenhuma para doar, e agora mais recentemente ainda comprei mais umas peças que encontrei a 1€ cada. Estão na foto acima, e já usei duas delas. Ah! E com isto gostava de dizer que penso trazer o "Refashion Month" de volta. 

#2. More refashioning! - I haven't done it as much this year, I focused on down sizing my fabric stash so the refashioning pile got a bit to the back of my head. A few more pieces were added to my existing pile, I took a few away to donate because I didn't identify with them anymore, but I also more a few more recently, I found them for 1€ each. They are the ones on the above picture, I used two of them already. Oh! I am planning on bringing the "Refashion Month" back.

Just a few of the things I made and never got to share here. 

#3. Publicar o que faço! - Tenho deixado imensas coisas que fiz por publicar. Acho sempre que posso fazer no dia a seguir e depois no outro e nunca chegam ao blog. Tentei contá-las e posso dizer-vos que as peças que nunca chegaram a ser publicadas foram praticamente em mesmo número que aquelas que sim. 

#3. Post what I make! - I've been leaving so many things I made unblogged. I always think I can make it the next day, and then the next and they never make it to here. I tried to count them and I can tell you they are nearly asmany as the ones that did make it to the blog. 

Acabei o pufe a 24 de Dezembro, foi prenda de natal do meu sobrinho e não tinha um fundo de jeito para tirar foto. A gata não ajudou. Foi o possível e não vou stressar por isso.
I finished this puff on the 24th of December, it was a christmas gift and I couldn't find a decent background for it. The cat didn't help either. It was the possible thing to get and I am not stressing over it. 

#4. Ser mais realista! - Naquilo que quero e posso fazer. Naquilo que realmente sou eu e não me deixar levar por aqueles/as que acompanho. Isto tem muito a ver com o ponto anterior, por vezes não publico à espera da melhor luz para fotografar a peça, do melhor isto e aquilo, mas sejamos verdadeiros, não pretendo fazer dinheiro com o blog, se a luz está mais fraca num certo dia, acho que preciso de tirar a foto mesmo assim, senão nunca chego a publicar nada. 

#4. Keep it real! - What I want and what I can achieve. What I really am and not get carried away with others I follow do or say. This is largely related to the previous subject, sometimes I might skip posting while waiting for a better light to get photos taken, best thi and that, but let's keep it real, I'm not planning on getting any profit out of this blog, if the light is bad on a certain day, well lei it be and shoot that photo either way, other wise it might never get to the blog. 

#5. Voltar aos videos! - Talvez não em formato podcast como fiz no passado. A ideia já cá está há imenso tempo, cheguei mesmo a gravar um video (há cerca de um ano, sei-o porque nele ainda aparece a 1ª macaca da G. e está quase a fazer um ano que a perdeu), mas nunca cheguei a editar e como tal muito menos a publicar. A ideia tem andado a martelar com mais insistência ultimamente, por isso devo mentalizar-me e voltar a eles.

#5. Back to videos! - This might only matter to my portuguese readers as I only film in portuguese, but anyway, I am planning on getting back, not on a podcast format though. The idea has been bouncing in my head for about a year now, so I guess it's time to get something done\about it.

Há muito tempo que não dava notícias por aqui, não é verdade? Entre a correria do fim do verão e do ter voltado a trabalhar, embora a meio tempo, pouco espaço tem sobrado para as costuras. No entanto, não há nada como um teste a um molde chamativo para me fazer voltar ao ativo (ah, entretanto também fiz esta blusa que partilhámos há uns dias no Cose+). 

Long time no seen, right? Between summer's end eclectic life and being back to work, even though part-time, has left a little space for sewing around here. Despite all that, there's nothing like an appealing pattern test call to get me back on track (oh, and I also made this shirt we shared a few days ago over at Cose+). 

O teste que vos falo acima, foi para a Kennis dos moldes Itch to Stitch, e é o molde Bonn Shirt and Dress. The test I am talking about was for Kennis, from Itch to Stitch, and the pattern is the Bonn Shirt and Dress. It will be 20% off for the release (today) and also, 15% off the cart if purchasing any 2 or more patterns.And what do I have t say about it? Well, to start it is super versatile, since you can sew it for any season of the year, thanks to its four different sleeve lenght options, and the dress or shirt option. As you can see, I did the short sleeves and I think they are cut just the right lenght. 

Gostei imenso do corte e de como assenta nos vários tipos de corpo (espreitem as versões das testers que vão aparecendo hoje por ai), e isso que eu nem sou muito rapariga de camisas com botões, mas gostei tanto desta mal vi o desenho técnico que não quis ficar de fora. Valeu a pena. Só penso que deveria ter escolhido um número acima, já que as minhas medidas batiam entre os dois mais pequenos (00 e 0). A camisa serve-me, mas fica muito justa, quando a intenção era ser uma camisa mais casual e descontraída. É por isso que quero mesmo fazer outra, assim que o tempo mo permita. 

I especially liked the shape of this shirt, and how it fits the different body types (check out all the testers versions that will be poping up today), and that's from someone who's not so much into button up shirts. I really liked this one though, as soon as I saw the technical drawing on the test call, I knew I wouldn't want to be out. It was worth it. I only think I just have picked a bigger size, since my measurements were right between the smaller sizes (00 and 0). The shirt fits me right, but it is too tight comparing to its intentional more casual and relaxed fit. That's why I really want to make another one as soon as I get the time to sew it. 

Para quem não conhece os moldes Itch to Stitch, tenho que vos alertar para o fato da Kennis ser uma excelente profissional, e os seus moldes são de grande qualidade. Para além dos seus moldes, não deixem de visitar o seu blog para tutoriais variados que vos serão bem utéis. Voltando ao molde, ele apresenta-se nos números 00 ao 20, e com copas A, B, C, D e DD, com indicações em como ajustar a blusa em altura para as mais altas, ou as mais baixinhas como eu. Por exemplo, eu deveria ter tirado alguma altura à minha camisa, coisa que farei na certa na próxima vez. 

If you don't know Itch to Stitch patterns yet, let me tell you that Kennis is an excellent professional, and they are high quality patterns. Besides her patterns, please check her blog for the most useful tutorials. Back to the pattern, it comes in sizes 00 - 20, with A, B, C. D and DD cups, with instructions on how to add or take lenght for the taller or the shorter ones. In my case, I will have to take some inches off next time, which I haven't this time.
