One Thimble 15 Blog Tour (Reviewing Thread Faction patterns)

É outra vez altura de One Thimble (número 15), já saiu malta! Eu costurei dois dos moldes incluídos nesta edição, ambos de Thread Faction - de quem sou fã, como de certeza, já referi antes. O molde #115 é uma boina com pompom e o molde #116, um casaco de malha com decote em V. e foram eles a minha escolha.

Time for One Thimble (issue 15) again, it's out people! I sewed two patterns featured in it, both by Thread Faction - which for sure I told you before, I am a fan of. Pattern #115 is a pom-pom beret and pattern #116 a V-neck cardigan, and these were my choices.

Fiz ambas as peças para a minha filha, primeiro porque ela está a precisar de roupa nova ao contrário do pequeno, e em segundo porque achava eu que não ia lá muito com boinas para meninos - meti na cabeça que era uma coisa mais de menina - até ver as versões para menino já partilhadas neste tour. Igualmente amorosos!

I made both for my daughter, first because she's in need of new things contrary to the little one, and second because I didn't think I like berets on boys - in my mind it was more of a girl thing - until I saw some of the boy versions on this tour. Adorable too!

Usei o mesmo tecido em ambas as peças, para combinar sim, mas também porque não tinha tecido suficiente para o casaco. Primeiro escolhi a malha de lã verde. Estava guardada nos meus tecidos há um par de anos, e era apenas um retalho que achei numa loja local. Infelizmente já não me lembrava do quão pequeno era e fiquei triste quando o desenrolei e constatei que não dava para o casaco.

I used the same fabric for both pieces, to cordinate and also because I didn't have enough fabric for the cardigan. I first picked the green wool knit piece of fabric. It was stashed for a couple of years and it was just a scrap I had scored in a local shop. Unfortunately I couldn't remember how little of it I had, and felt so sad to discover I couldn't fit my cardigan in it.

No entanto já sou conhecida por fazer uma boa gestão dos meus recursos, certo? Lembrei-me que o pai me tinha dado uma camisola dele porque começava a ficar manchada no colarinho, e era precisamente de malha de lã também, e com peso e toque muito semelhantes ao do tecido verde. Então pensei "Pois bem, cinza fica bem com tudo, vamos tentar!". E assim fiz.

I am already known to make good use of my resources though, right? I then remembered my husband had given me one of his sweaters recently because it was getting stained in the collar, the wool knit part was just fine, and it was about the same weight and texture of my green fabric. And I thought "Oh well, gray matches all colors so let's try this!". And so I did.

Começando pelo molde #115, a boina; com vários tamanhos, de recém nascido a adulto, dá para nos divertirmos a fazer uma para cada membro da família. O molde incluí três tipos de pompons: a imitar pêlo, os comuns pompons de lã, ou feito de tiras de malha. Juntei um de lã e apesar de ter intenções de fazer um enorme, este é bem mais pequeno porque quando comprei os meus acessórios para os fazer em 3 tamanhos) fiz um pompom de cada, e o mais pequeno era de um cinza muito semelhante ao da camisola, por isso usei esse poupando-me algum tempo.

Starting with pattern #115, the beret; it comes in sizes newborn to adult so you can have fun making one for each member of your family. Pattern features three pom-pom style options: faux fur, regular wool or knit stripes. I went with the regular. I wanted to add a huge pompom to it, but when I bought my pompom maker, I made one of each size (there are 3) and it happens that the smallest one was made in a gray wool, very similar to the sweater's fabric, so I used that instead and saved some time.

Com o que tinha, reciclei a camisola para fazer o casaco, molde #116. Usei-a para as partes da frente, trás e mangas, e para o cós e colarinho usei o tecido verde. Fiz-lhe um tamanho 6, e quando terminei pareceu-me mesmo do tamanho do casaco que fiz para mim, que é curto e com mangas a 3/4, e tonta como sou fui experimentar também. Mostro-vos a figurinha no fim do post.

Working with what I had, I refashioned daddy's sweater to make pattern #116, the cardigan. I used it for the front, back and sleeves, and used what I had left from the green fabric fot the waist and neck bands. I went with size 6 for her, and when I finished it seemed just as the same size as my own cropped, 3/4 sleeves cardigan and just because I am like that I tried it on me too. I will show you this pearl by the end of the post.

Costurar esta malha não foi fácil. Por mais ferro que lhe espetasse a cada passo, e por mais cuidado que tivesse a não esticar a peça enquanto costurava, foi praticamente impossível costurá-la sem que ficasse com um aspeto um pouco ondulado. Ah, e sim, em caso de se estarem a perguntar! Ela veste um terceiro molde Thread Faction, é o top estilo crop, o #105 que lhe fiz o ano passado. Continua a ser um dos meus preferidos.

Sewing this knit wasn't easy. As much as I tried to correctly iron it at each step, and as much as I tried not to stretch the damn thing, it was nearly impossible to avoid sewing it without getting that wrinkly look. Oh, and just in case your wondering... yes! She is wearing a third Thread Faction Pattern, the crop top, pattern #105 I made her last year. It's still one of my favorites.

Holiday Debut Blog Tour

Já está tudo em modo de festa? Ah pois é, Dezembro cheira a glamour e aconchego. E eu tenho o prazer enorme de participar neste tour, com tanta gente talentosa, e criações tão magnificas, perfeitas para estes dias festivos. Este tour, apresenta 3 moldes, de 3 designers que celebram assim, o fim do seu primeiro ano como designers. Os moldes são o Fishtal Kimono (Chalk & Notch), o Abby Footed Tights (The Wolf and the Tree) e o Blue Ridge Dress (Hello Holly Patterns), e eu, hoje, apresento-vos as minhas versões dos dois primeiros.

Are you all into festive mood? Oh yes, December smells like glamour and cosiness. And I have the great pleasure of being part of this tour today, with a lotof talented people, and gorgeous crestions, perfect for the holidays. This tour, presents 3 patterns, from 3 designers that are now celebrating the end of a year as new designers. The patterns are the Fishtal Kimono (Chalk & Notch), Abby Footed Tights (The Wolf and the Tree) and Blue Ridge Dress (Hello Holly Patterns), and I have picked the two first ones to show you my versions today.

Ambas as peças me deram imenso gozo, e foram super rápidas de fazer. Comecemos então por onde eu comecei também, que foi por escolher o tecido para as meias. A partir dai tive que escolher o tecido para o kimono, queria algo que fosse digno das festas, mas que ficasse bem com as meias e que desse também para conjugar com outros looks no dia a dia. E depois de analisar bem as possibilidades de todos os meus tecidos, acabei por escolher o mesmo veludo preto que usei para fazer os Bubble Shorts, o molde da Marta (Do Guincho), e que infelizmente já não servem à G. Infelizmente também preto e veludo não são propriamente a coisa mais fácil de se fotografar, e os detalhes nas costas do mesmo, ficam impossíveis de serem vistos nas minhas fotos, e é por isso que não há nenhuma sequer. Ó sim, e ela tem um buraco mesmo no meio da blusa porque caiu mesmo antes das fotos e rasgou-a, para grande tristeza minha, já que é uma das minhas preferidas.

Both pieces were amazingle fun to make, and quick. Let's start from where I started too. which was the fabric for the footed tights. From there I had to pick the fabric for the Fishtail Kimono. I wanted something suitable for the holidays but alsowearable with daily looks. And after going throgh all the fabrics available on my stash, I picked the same velvet fabric I used for the Bubble Shorts by Marta (Do Guincho), and sadly don't fit G. anymore. Sadly as well, velvet and black aren't really the easiest thing to shoot, and the back details are nearly impossible to see in my photos (and that's why I am not posting a back view of this). Oh yes, she does have a hole in her sweater because she fell right before we started photographing, and it ripped, I was so deeply sad, because this is one of my faves.

O kimono vem com opção de ajustar a altura das mangas e do corpo. As costas são compostas por duas peças, sendo que a parte de baixo é franzida no centro criando um detalhe interessante e feminino. E os tamanhos vão do XXS (18-24M) ao XXL (12 anos). Embora as medidas da G. a enquadrassem no S, eu fiz o XS e ainda bem, porque ainda assim, é bastante largo.

The kimono comes with lenght and sleeve lenght adjustment cut lines. The back are built out of two pieces, and the lower one gathers in the center, creating an interesting and feminine detail. Size range starts at XXS (18-24M) to XXL (12 years). Although G.'s measurements would fit her into a S, I chose to make the XS and I am glad I did since there is a lot os ease in this pattern.

O nosso look pode não parecer muito festivo, bem sei, mas não temos o habito de nos vestirmos formalmente nestas ocasiões passadas em família, claro que ainda espero fazer um vestido para ela, mas nada demasiado glamoroso. Mas continuando, e passando então às meias. Foram uma surpresa agradável. O molde traz na realidade dois moldes, um indicado para tecidos com elasticidade em dois sentidos, e outro para tecidos com elasticidade nos 4 sentidos. O meu, foi o segundo. A cintura também oferece dois acabamentos: cintura com dobra (tipo yoga) e cintura com elástico. Neste caso não segui as instruções e apliquei o elástico da mesma forma que faço sempre. São 17 tamanhos disponíveis, dos 0-14, e sim, pergunto-me se me servirão a mim também?!

Our look isn't as festive as you'd imagine, I know, but we don't usually fancy up much for those family celebrations, of course I am still planning on making her a cute dress, but nothing too glamorous. Anyway, let's move to the footed tights. Those were a good surprise. The patterns comes actaully with two patterns, one for two ways stretch fabrics and another one for 4 ways stretch fabrics. I used the last one. The waistband has two ways too, one is a yoga waistband and the other one is an elastic waist. I went with the second option again, but I didn't follow the instructions tofinish it, instead I did it as I always do. There are 17 sizes in this pattern, from 0 to 14 years and yes, I am wondering if they fit me too?!

Alguém reparou nos outras peças feitas à mão desta publicação? São outras 3: A boina feita pela minha mãe (eu tenho um igual), a macaca, a amiga inseparável dela desde os 17 meses - aqui recusou-se mesmo a largar a macaca, já que tinha caído momentos antes - e também os calções (Morocco Shorts - Petit a Peit and Family) que fiz para o Top Stitchers em Maio.

Girls BundleUp Tour

I am one of the latest bloggers joining the BundleUp tour, so, I guess by now, you've already seen all the patterns in the bundle and have probably get yours too. If not, or if you don't even know what I'm talking about, let me tell you. This is a bundle sell of 11 patterns at a fraction of the cost, in this case especially designed for girls. The more patterns you buy, the more you save.

Today I get to tell you about three patterns included in this bundle. I was a (happy) tester for two of them, and I did get the third one for free for this tour, but all opinions are my own.

Phresh Blazer by Winter Wear Designs
Let me start with the first one I tested, and let me tell you, one of my favourite patterns ever!!! It was so hard to keep it secret after I did my first (test). I have discovered, as I was putting clothes up in her closet, that I love to sew outerwear for my girl. So it's no surprise that I love this pattern so much. This is the cutest little girls blazer, sizes 1-14, and there are many options to make it your style. It is fitted, long or 3/4 sleeves, gathered or straight sleeve, with or without ruffles on the back (the most adorable feature I know, I skipped them for this one but have done them in the first blazer - which I will be blogging about soon). With or without welt flap pockets. Pattern recommends fabric with some stretch, but you can really use any fabric, just size it up one number. The first blazer I made was a 2T, but it turned out too tight on my little miss because she - apparently - grew in a few weeks since I had measured her. For this one, because I was using a not so stretchy faux leather, I went with size 4 and it's great. I did the straight, 3/4 sleeves option here, and I added the pockets too. The colour blocking on this one is my own, I refashioned leftovers from a coat and it wasn't enough so I had to grab another coat to finish, which was already cut, but it was a different colour though. I didn't have enough of any of these two to make the sleeves one colour only, so I had to get creative and added a band to each sleeve, and prayed that it would work. For the facings I used the same fabric I used for the pants, and I used a black homemade satin bias tape. Because the faux leather doesn't fray, I didn't bother to finish my edges. Little miss loved it too. When I was laying down the clothes for her to put them on, she realised there were two new mommy mades so she asked me "Are we taking pictures, mom?". I couldn't help but smile.

Freestyle Harem Pants by EYMM
After testing the blazer, the chance to test the pants came along. As soon as I read "harem" pants, I jumped at the oportunity and was so glad I was picked. It was a pattern that I was really missing in my stash. I love the harem pants look, either on my kids or myself, and the only pattern of the same style I had didn't go many sizes up. This one goes from NB to 18T and includes a 18" doll size too. How great is that to get your daughter and doll matching?! And if you are petite as I am, you can even make a pair for yourself too. Actually, I got the bug of making either this or the blazer (or even both) for myself. Who knows?! Anyway, there are 3 lenght options for this: pant, capri or short. You can also do a regular hem, add elastic or use a cuff. There are pleats on the front. The waist band has two options too, one straight or curved on front. Two rows of elastic on the back (in my size, other sizes might have more). I opted for the pant lenght, elastic hem and curved waistband, which is something I love. I didn't use interfacing in this one but I might next time. This is a size 3T and the fit is spot on. I used a vintage satin from my stash. It was there for years and it was given to me by my MIL. I wasn't sure about this fabric print ever since, but because of the drape I tried it on. I wasn't sure at first, but I guess I've learnt to like it. Honest opinions, please?!

For the photoshoot we used her new boots which she loved, and we styled the outfit with a rtw shirt, a handmade beret my mom made her (I have a matching one =D), and a scarf I made her, out of leftovers from a previous refashion. It was actually made a long time ago, but I have never blogged about it.

"Adeline" Knit Ruffled Cardigan, Top and Dress by Foo Foo Threads
I've said this many times before, I know, but I am saying it again. I am not a very ruffly person. I like them here and there, but most of the times I avoid ruffles. When I first saw the "Adeline" pattern though, I was sure I wanted to sew this up, because I saw the potential beyond the ruffles. Hence, my non-ruffled-at-all version of this pattern. The "Adeline" comes with multiple options, and you can make a cardigan (hello!), a drop waist dress or a top with it, with an adorable peter pan collar. As for the sleeves, you can make them gathered, long (with or without ruffles) or short, and even sleeveless. It ranges from size 0-3M to 10Y. It is meant for knit fabrics and the bodice is lined.

For my own, I choose to make a cardigan and I skipped the lining in this one because it was already a sort of heavy knit. It is a refashioned piece too, of course. I used a woman's sized shirt to make it. For the collar, I also used a little piece I had left from another recent refashion for the boy. When asked what she liked best, contrasting collar, or the same fabric, my daughter picked the contrasting, so grey up it is. I used bias tape made out of the same fabric to finish the front pieces and also the collar inside. I opted to add only one button on top to close it instead of a full row of them. I like it this way.

Little miss wasn't so much in the mood for a photoshoot this time. Dad and I both tried to take some nicer shoots but even ourselves, we weren't feeling very inspired. Perhaps because the weather is changing again and a very cold wind was coming. This time we used a rtw shirt and handmade shorts, a refashion from 2013 (and yes, they still fit all along).
