A different blanket

Antes de costurar qualquer prenda, costumo procurar alguma inspiração na net. Quem não? Ideias para prendas para miúdos custam-me sempre a ter, por isso foi com alegria que me deparei com esta no blog It's Always Autumn. Guardei-a durante antes, mas nunca cheguei a experimentar. Uns anos depois, voltei a cruzar-me com ela. Não fiz exatamente a mesma coisa mas serviu-me como ponto de partida. 

Before I sew any gifts, I usually search for inspiration online. Who doesn't? Finding gifts for boys is always hard for me, so I was pretty happy when I found this ideia by It's Always Autumn. I saved the link for years but I've never really got to make it. All this years forward and I came across this again. I didn't exactly make it as in the original but it was my starting point to what I actually came up with. 

Primeiro pensei em fazer o jogo, tal como na inspiração, para o filho mais velho de uma amiga. Mas como tinha de fazer outra prenda para o mais novo também, acendeu-se-me a luzinha. Porque não transformar isto numa coisa para os dois? Para jogarem precisamente juntos. Então criei uma manta que é também um jogo de tabuleiro com duas caras, de tamanho gigante. Infelizmente estava de chuva quando tirei as fotos e não consegui fazê-lo na rua, que era o que pretendia para dar uma perceção mais realista do seu tamanho. 

First I thought about making a chess board game as in the original idea for a friend's oldest son. But I had to think about a gift for the little one too and that's when I hit the light button. Why not putting them together?! So they could actually play together. So I created a two sided huge fabric board game for both kids. It was rainy when I took these photos so I couldn't take them outside, which I wanted to, so its size would be more perceptible. 

Num dos lados da manta fiz um jogo, o três em linha, com círculos em feltro em cinzento e em preto para jogar. No outro lado da manta, o segundo jogo, as damas. Para este usei círculos de feltro, ligeiramente mais pequenos em cinzento e branco. Já não estou 100% segura, mas penso que a manta mede 80x80cm, e comecei por fazer o lado das damas. Depois fiz as contas para que o do três em linha ficasse certinho também. 

In one side of the blanket there is a game, three in a row, with grey and black felt circles to play. On the other side of the blanket there's a second game, chess board. For this one I cut slightly smaller white and grey felt circles. I'm not really 100% sure anymore, but I believe the blanket is 80x80cm, and I started with the chess side. After doing the patchwork for that one, I made the math to make the other side even. 

De forma a ter os círculos organizados quando não estão a jogar, fiz também uma pequena bolsa com os restos dos tecidos que usei nos jogos. Também pensei em fazer uma mochila para que pudessem carregar a manta para diferentes sítios se necessário (tal como o parque, a praia ou algo assim), mas fiquei sem tempo. Como quase sempre, a minha filha pediu-me logo para fazer uma igual para e para o irmão. Só mais uma coisa para adicionar à lista. Não admira que seja tão extensa. 

To keep the circles organized when the the kids aren't playing, I also made a little pouch using scraps from the main fabric used in the games too. I also thought about making asmall backpack so they could carry it if needed (for a trip to the park, the beach or so ever), but I got short on time. As often happens, my girl loved it so much she recuested one for her and her brother too. One more thing to add to my list. No wonder it is so long. 

Glasses Case

Se há coisa que gosto mesmo é de dar presentes feitos à mão aos amigos e família. Gosto especialmente, de dá-los àqueles que sei que apreciam as prendas feitas à mão tanto quanto eu. Uma das melhores partes do processo - a meu ver - é tentar acertar em algo que a pessoa em particular vá gostar ou achar útil (tenho tentado esforçar-me para ter este ponto mais em conta ultimamente para evitar o acumulo de coisas desnecessárias em casa dos outros, tal como procuro fazer na minha). Assim, se acertares, todo o tempo e dedicação que colocaste na peça valem mesmo a pena. 

I really enjoy making handmade gifts for my friends and family. I especially like to dedicate time to those I know appreciate a handmade gift as much as I do. One of the best parts of the process - as I see it - is to look for something that particular person will like or find useful (I've been trying to work hard on this last matter to avoid clutter at other people's houses, just like I try to do in my own). Then if you get it right, then all the time and dedication you put into it is so damn worth it. 

A prenda de hoje, foi feita para a a minha querida amiga Susana. Ela cria coisas maravilhosas, e tem imenso jeito para tudo aquilo que mete na cabeça fazer, seja lá o que isso for. A minha amiga usa óculos, e imaginei que pudesse gostar de uma capa para os proteger mais um pouco. Não fazia ideia se já tinha alguma ou não, mas fiz. Fiquei feliz por assim ter sido, uma vez que me disse depois que queria uma. 

Today's gift was made for my dear friend Susana. She creates wonderful things, and she's quite handy at anything she sets her mind in to make, whatever that is. My friends wears glasses, and I figured she might enjoy a case to keep them safer. I had no clue if she had any already but I went for it. I am happy I did because she then told me she wanted one. 

Enquanto procurava ideias giras na internet para me inspirar, curzei-me com um passo-a-passo de capa para óculos, que acabei por mais ou menos seguir. Não me apeteceu ir até à impressora e imprimir o molde que o site fornece, por isso desenhei o meu próprio molde olhando para o da imagem no pap. Usei tecidos que já tinha em casa. Tinha este dos gatos que adoro, e que era um daqueles que gostamos tanto que nem o queremos cortar, sabem como é - mas sei que ela também gosta de gatos, por isso usei-o como forro, para que tivesse uma pequena surpresa ao abrir a capa. 

So, as I was searching for cool inspiration ideas on the internet, I came across this tutorial for the glasses case, and I sort of followed it. I was lazy to use my printer and print the pattern, so I drew my own pattern guided by the image on the tutorial. I used fabric from my stash. I had this one with the cats which I adore, and was saving, because you know, you love your fabric so much it gets hard to cut it - but I know she loves cats too, so I used it for the lining so she could have a nice little surprise once she opened it. 

Tea Bag Pouch Keyring

E chegamos a Fevereiro e eu ainda tenho prendas de Natal para mostrar... como já tinha mencionado, vai aos poucos, aos poucos. Desta vez trago a prenda que fiz para a minha colega de trabalho. Reparei que o porta-chaves dela estava velhinho, é um D feito também em tecido, a inicial do seu nome.Além disso, gostamos muito de beber cházinho nos dias de inverno durante o nosso lanche, assim que lembrei-me de misturar tudo isto e fazer isto para ela.

And we're in February and I am still sharing Christmas gifts... as I mentioned before , it's coming slowly, slowly. This time there's the gift I made for my co-worker. I noticed her keyring was too old, it is a fabric D, her names initial. Besides, we both like to have a tea on our break in winter, so I thougt I could mix it all and make her this. 

Fiz-lhe uma carteirinha para chás que é ao mesmo tempo um porta-chaves. Usei o tecido amarelo que tinha comprado para fazer a prenda do filho dela, o jogo de bowling que já mostrei aqui, e mais uns retalhinhos que já tinha de há anos. Criei o molde à medida que o fui fazendo e correu muito bem. 

I made her this little teabag pouch which is at the same time a keyring. I used the same yellow fabric I bought to make her son's gift, the bowling set I showed here, and also a few little scraps I've had for years. I made the pattern as I sewed and it went pretty well. 

Na parte da frente da carteira, apliquei com um ponto em zigue zague a letra do nome dela para fazer lembrar o porta-chaves que ela já tinha. Acho que preciso de fazer um para mim também e ter sempre um par de chás à mão. Acredito que é uma lembrança engraçada para quem como nós, gosta de beber o seu. E vocês, o que acharam?

On the front of the teabag pouch, I've sewn with a zig zag stitch her name's initial, to remind her of the old keyring she already had. I think I need to make one of these for myself too, and have my tea bags always at hand. I believe it is a cute gift to someone like us, that loves to drink their tea. What do you think? 

Baby Soft Cube

Quando a minha filha era bebé, há pouco mais de 7 anos, comecei a fazer-lhe este cubo em tecido. Cortei todas as peças e maior parte das fitas, prendi tudo com alfinetes e coloquei de parte. Já não recordo bem, mas devo-me ter distraído com outros projectos, e quando dei por ela, a bebé já era demasiado grande para o cubo. 

When my daughter was a baby, over 7 years ago, I started making her this fabric baby soft cube. I've cut the pieces and most of the ribbons, pinned everything I could together and set the project apart. I can't recall, but I must have gotten distracted with some other projects, and when I realised, she was too old for it. 

De vez enquanto cruzava-me com o "cubo" quando andava a rebuscar por entre as minhas peças inacabadas. "Um dia acabo-o! Talvez a miúda até goste de brincar com ele ainda". Claro que o pensamento assim chegava, assim partia. Há sempre tanto por fazer, e o último projecto é sempre o mais interessante... mesmo que o não seja. 

Every now and then I would came across the "cube" while going through my unfinished projects. "One day I'll get to it! Maybe the girl might even still enjoy it". Of course as soon as the thought was coming, it was going away. There's always so much to do, and the last project is always more interesting that the one before... even when it's not. 

Três anos depois de ter a minha filha, tive o meu filho. Lá estava a minha oportunidade outra vez. Tenho a certeza que a determinada altura me devo ter cruzado com ele - enquanto ainda se adequava à idade do bebé - e pensei em terminá-lo. Tenho a certeza até que foi nessa altura que cortei e prendi com alfinetes o resto das fitas, mas sim, como imaginam, nunca cheguei a fazê-lo. 

Three years after having my girl, I had my boy. There was my chance again. I'm sure that at some point - while it was still age appropriate for him - and I thought about finishing it. I am sure, it was by then that I cut and pinned the rest of the ribbon pieces, but, yes, as you guess, I never sewed the whole thing together. 

Avançando, estamos em 2018. Mudei de casa e quando o fiz dei imensos retalhos e outros aviamentos. Andei a remexer nos projectos inacabados e a decidir se os mantinha, se reutilizava o material ou se dava tudo. Por qualquer motivo que desconheço, não fui capaz de me desfazer dele. Quando nos mudámos em Agosto, devo ter-me cruzado novamente com isto, e acredito que foi numa tarde de Setembro que finalmente me dispus a isso. 

Fast forward, we're in 2018. I moved and gave a lot of scraps of fabric and notions away. I had to go through my unfinished projects and decide whether I keep it, reuse the fabric or just give it away. Somehow, I wasn't able to part from it, so I kept it. When I moved in August, I probably came across this again, and I believe that it was a September afetrnoon, when I finally got to it. 

A minha amiga e colega de trabalho estava grávida pela segunda vez, de uma menina que nasceu em Novembro, e eu soube que ai estava novamente a minha oportunidade. E foi o que finalmente fiz. Acabei o cubo e costurei-o em cerca de 5 minutos. Vejam só a ironia. Adicionei no interior dois pequenos guizos para dar mais interesse ao cubo. As fitas que usei, eram pequenos restos de outros projectos anteriores e gostei de ver como tinha ali vários tamanhos, cores e texturas diferentes. 

My friend and co worker was pregnant with her second child, a baby girl that was born back in November, and I knew there was my chance again, to finish this. And I finally did. I sewed the whole thing in about 5 minutes. That's ironic, isn't it? I also added two little rattles when filling it to add a bit more fun to it. The ribbons I used were little leftovers from previous projects and I like that they had so many different sizes, colors, and textures. 

E foi assim que depois de tanto tempo, este cubo se tornou a primeira prenda de Natal que costurei no ano passado. Oh e sim, ainda tenho mais umas quantas para vos mostrar. Estou até bem orgulhosa de algum delas. 

And this is how, after all this time, this soft cube became my first Christmas gift being sewn last year. And oh yes, I still have some more christmas gift to show you. I actually was so proud of some. 

Oliver +S "Little Things to Sew" Backpacks

Há uns anos atrás, comprei o livro Little Things to Sew da Olive + S, mas até há um par de meses nunca tinha costurado nenhuma das peças nele apresentadas. O livro está cheio de projectos giríssimos para fazer para os miúdos e por várias vezes planeei fazer vários deles. Alguns dão prendas bem giras também, mas... esses projectos que planeei foram sempre adiados em prol d'outros... a sina de quem costura!

A couple of years ago I bought this book Little Things to Sew by Oliver + S, but until a couple of months ago, I hadn't sewn one thing from it. The book is full of fun projects to sew for your kids and I planned on making a few of them a few times. Some of the projects make great gifts too, but... those projects were always postponed to give place to other... a sewer's life! 

No passado Natal, eu estava determinada a fazer quantas prendas à mão quantas aquelas que eu aguentasse e conseguisse fazer, e estas duas mochilas foram duas delas. Para as fazer usei o molde que quem no livro lá em cima.

This past Christmas I was so determined to give as many handmade gifts as my hands could make, and these two backpacks were two of the things I was able to make. For them, I finally used one of the patterns in the book above. 

Estas foram para duas meninas de 8 anos e sim, gostaram muito delas. O molde original é para uma mochila pinguim (a que podem ver na capa do livro lá em cima), mas eu optei pela versão mais simples. Adicionei uma pequena rendinha para astornar mais menininha. 

These were my gifts for two 8 year old girls and yes, they loved it. The original pattern, is for a penguin shaped backpack (the one you see in the cover of the book above), but I made the simplier version. Also added a little lace just to make it a tiny bit more girly. 

As mochilas são completamente forradas e dentro têm divisórias para os acessórios (que eu fiz a olho). O tecido dos mochos comprei-o numa mercado na Espanha, é bem grosso por isso aguenta-se muito bem, o que o torna perfeito para as mochilas. Ainda pensei adicionar alguma especie de enchimento para dar mais alguma estrutura mas depois desisti da ideia porque não se justificava. 

The backpacks are fully lined, and have space to accomodate your accessories too (I eyeballed it on mine). I got the owls fabric on a market in Spain, it is heavy and holds perfectly, that's why it was a great choice for the backpacks. I was thinking about using some filling of some sort for structure, but I then realised I wouldn't need it. 

O tecido do forro, comprei numa loja local, mas já não me recordo qual delas. Na verdade usei dois diferentes porque a meio caminho do corte percebi que não teria suficiente para ambas as mochilas e lá assumi os dois tecidos como design e não falha. hahaha. 

I bought the linning fabric locally, but I can't remember quite well where anymore. I actually used two different ones because I realised I wouldn't have enough of the red one for both pieces, and I had started cutting so, let's make it a design details not a mistake. ahahah 

Fiquei bem feliz de as ter feito e com tanta antecedência para o Natal - ando sempre num corre corre quando toca a acabar prendas a tempo. Tenho mais alguns projectos do livro que adorava fazer, como a "lancheira"... Também dá uma bela prenda tanto para crianças como para adultos. Talvez seja a minha próxima coisa a fazer do livro. Espero que não leve mais uns anos. Mesmo porque também está lá uma mala a tira colo que adorava fazer para a minha filha. 

I was pretty happy that I made these, and I made them quite before Christmas - I'm always in a hurry to finish gifts in time. I have more projects from the book that I'd love to make, like the bento box carrier... That makes a great gift even for an adult. That might be my next sew from the book. I hope it won't take me ages again though. There's also a messenger bag I'd love to make for my daughter. 

Bowling Pin & Ball Game #2

Não foi a primeira vez que fiz este jogo de bowling em tecido... mas já passaram alguns anos desde a primeira vez que o fiz. Desde então que tinha vontade de voltar a fazer um novamente mas nunca surgia a oportunidade, e sabe muito bem quem costura que a lista do que queremos fazer nunca termina. 

It's not the first time I made this fabric bowling game... but a few years have gone since I first made it. I wanted to make another ever since but the oportunity was never around, and I know that all the sewers out there know that our to do list is a never ending one. 

Porém, neste último Natal consegui fazer várias prendas, entre elas este jogo para um menino muito querido de quatro anos. Os tecidos comprei-os numa loja local. Escolhi três dentro das minhas cores preferidas que jogassem bem entre si e não podia ter gostado mais do resultado. Acabei por aproveitar o tecido para outras coisas também e ainda tenho muito. 

This last Christmas though, I was able to make several of my gifts and this game was one of them, I made it for a sweet four year old boy. I bought the different fabrics at a local fabric shop. I chose them within my fave colors and I made them match, I couldn't be happier. I actually used the fabric for a few more things and I still have a lot left. 

O molde é da Mignon Prider e aparentemente o link que eu tinha no post do 1º jogo, cujo molde testei na altura, já não funciona. Por isso, a quem possa interessar, sigam este novo link AQUI. Na altura do teste, fiz apenas 3 pinos, era bem mais lenta a costurar porque agora tenho a sensação que levei mais tempo com esses três da altura, do que com estes 6 agora. 

The pattern is from Mignon Prider and aparently the link I had in my first set post, for the pattern I tested back then, isn't working. So, for those that might be interested, just follow this new link HERE. Back when I did the test, I made only 3 pins, as I was much slower sewing and I have this feeling that 3 of them took me longer to make than all these new 6. 

E para terminar, só para vos mostrar como ofereci o jogo ao menino. Arranjei uma caixa de cartão cujo tamanho era perfeito para os seis pinos. A bola ficou ali perfeitamente e ainda me deu foi vontade de fazer mais uma para preencher o espaço vazio. Resisti à tentação. 

To finish, I just wanted for you to see how I packed it for the boy. I got a card box with the perfect size for the sis pins. The ball had a perfect space for itself and I swear I wanted to make a second one just to fill in the empty space. I resisted though. 

Rival Raglan Tunic

Oh, estou tão determinada em publicar todas as minhas peças feitas, fotografadas mas nunca publicadas do passado! Hoje trago uma túnica que fiz no início deste ano que já está para terminar. Lá para Março publiquei o vestido que fiz para a minha filha com o molde rival raglan dress da GYCT. Na mesma altura fiz também uma outra versão do molde, como prenda de aniversário para a filha de uma amiga. A miúda adora o Jack Skellington e eu queria fazer-lhe algo dentro do tema. 

Oh I am so determined on posting about my made, photographed and never posted pieces from the past! Today I am sharing a tunic I made in the beggining of this now ending year. Back in March, I posted about the rival raglan dress by GYCT that I made for my daughter. Also back then I sewed another version of the pattern for a friend's daughter as a birthday gift. The little girl loves Jack Skellington and I wanted to make her something with the theme. 

Bordei a cara do Jack na parte da frente do vestido. Demorou-me mais isso do que costurar todo o vestido, tal como aconteceu com a aplicação do primeiro rival raglan que fiz... e tal qual, valeu tanto a pena, não podia estar mais satisfeita. Os meus miúdos gostaram tanto também que me fizeram prometer que lhes faria umas t-shirts com o Jack Skellington também, promessa que ainda não cumpri. 

I embroidered Jack's head into the front of the dress. It took much longer than putting the dress together, as it happen with the appliqué I made on my first rival raglan... but it was so much worth it. I couldn't love it better. My kids loved it so much as well that they both made me promise I'd make them both a Jack Skellington shirt too - promise I have fail to keep yet. 

Queria mesmo usar as cores que usei, mas não tinha nenhum tecido com o roxo. Claro que tive de fazer o que faço melhor e usar uma peça pré-amada, meter tesoura e transformá-la nesta nova peça. O tecido das mangas, saia e colarinho foi o que sobrou de um dos meus mais afdorados vestidos, feitos por mim (aqui). 

I really wanted to use the colors I did, but I didn't have any of the purple fabric available. Of course, I then turned out to what I do best and used a previously loved piece to cut and use in this new one. The fabric for the sleeves, skirt and collar band were leftovers from one of my all time self-sewn fave dresses (here). 

Desta vez fiz as mangas a 3/4 e a opção túnica, em vez de vestido. A miúda mora longe e para ter a certeza que lhe serviria, se não na altura, mais tarde então, fiz-lhe um número acima (em relação À idade), pelo sim pelo não. Aparentemente, tanto a mãe como a filha (e o pai) adoraram, o que me deixou bastante feliz de saber. 

This time I did the 3/4 sleeves option and tunic instead of dress lenght. Because the girl does not live close I made her a bigger size (according to her age) so I could be safe it would fit, if not yet, than a bit later. Apparently, both mom and daughter (and father) loved it, which made my day when I heard. 

DIY Back Warmer Pillow

A ideia de hoje é uma versão um pouco maior das almofadas térmicas que fiz há uns anos para o meu pai e o meu sogro e que vos mostrei no último post. A ideia para esta surgiu quando a minha mãe andou muito mal das costas e me disse que usava as almofadinhas do meu pai para lhe dar algum alívio. 

Today's idea is just a slightly bigger version of the warming pillows I made for my father and father in law many years ago, and have shared in my last post. The idea came to me when my mom hurt her back really bad and told me she was using my father's little pillows to get some relief. 

Assim que com a ideia das anteriores, fiz-lhe uma semelhante mas tamanho XL para que pudesse usar na zona lombar. Assim em vez de colocar as pequenas que não chegavam a cobrir toda a zona, passou a usar esta que tinha o tamanho ideal. 

So, just like the previous ones, I made her a XL sized piloow so she could use on her lower back. Like this she didn't need the smallest ones which didn't cover all the hurt area, and could use this one istead with the right size. 

Tal como com as anteriores, fiz a almofada em algodão e depois fiz-lhe a forra para que a pudesse lavar sempre que necessário. A almofada em si, não se pode molhar devido ao seu conteúdo, como é óbvio, que consiste em arroz, alfazema (flores) e óleo essencial (eu usei gerânio porque adoro, mas fica ao vosso critério, mas se usarem um com propriedades anti-inflamatórias e/ou calmantes tanto melhor). 

Again, I made her the pillow with cotton fabric and also the cover, so she could take it off to wash as many times as needed. The pillow itself can't be wet because of its content, obviously, since it is filled with rice, lavander (flowers) and an essencial oil (I used the geranium because I love it, but you can use another one, of course using one with anti-inflamatory properties and /or calming ones the better). 

Este tipo de almofada pode usar-se quente ou frio. No primeiro caso, aquece-se entre 30 a 60 segundos no microondas. No caso do frio (para reduzir inchaços por exemplo), colocar dentro de um saco plástico hermético e congelar. 

This type of pillow can be used warm or cold. In the first case, hit it for about 30 to 60 seconds on the microwave. In the case of using cold (to decrease swelling for example), put it inside an hermetic plastic bag and freeze. 

DIY Hand Warmer Pillows

E já estamos em Dezembro. Para quem tem prendas a fazer, é melhor dar aos dedos e apressar-se porque em menos de um piscar de olhos o Natal está ai. E falo por mim, claro está, que ainda ando enrolada com as mesmas coisas. Isto de as ir fazendo aos bocadinhos rende menos, no entanto ando a resgatar prendas do passado que nunca cheguei a partilhar, algumas são bem rápidas de fazer, por isso espero que sejam ideias úteis para quem me lê.

And it's December already. To those of you who still have gifts to make, you better hurry up and move your fingers because Christmas will be here in less than a blink. Of course, I am one of you too since I am still working on the same ones for a while, making them slowly takes longer. Still, I have been going through past gifts I made and never shared here before, so maybe some of them can be handy to any of you, most are pretty quick to make. 

A sugestão de hoje são estas almofadinhas térmicas que fiz há uns anos, para o meu pai e para o meu sogro. O primeiro sofre imenso de problemas de circulação nas pontas dos dedos todos os invernos e foi daí que me surgiu a ideia. Bastou para tal, costurar duas pequenas almofadas (para cada um deles) que coubessem nas mãos, e enchê-las com arroz, alfazema e um óleo essencial. Depois fiz uma fronha à medida para que se possam lavar. Ainda incluí as instruções de uso em papel e os cuidados a ter. Gostaram? 

Those little hand warmer pillows are today's suggestion, I made them a few years ago for my father and father in law. The first one has a lot of blood circulation in his finger tips every winter, so my idea of making these came from that. To make them, I just had to sew two small pillows (for each of them) that would fit within their hands and fill them up with rice, lavander and some essencial oil. Then I made the pillow cover to fit so they could wash them. I also added the instructions and warnings on paper. Did you lie it? 

Easy & Quick Candy Cane Ornament

Esta é mais uma ideia natalícia que fiz o ano passado e que não cheguei a partilhar aqui no blog. 

Adoro embrulhos diferentes e originais quando chega a altura de oferecer as minhas prendas, e esta ideia em particular foi inspirada no papel que comprei no ano passado, cujo motivo eram as bengalas doces (e que podem ver na foto abaixo). 

Here's another Christmas idea from last year that never made it to the blog. 

I love different and original rapping when it comes to wrap my gifts, and this particular idea was actually inspired by the wrapping paper I bought last year, because of it's printed candy canes (picture below). 

Inicialmente o que eu pretendia era comprar umas bengalas doces verdadeiras, mas não encontrei por aqui. Não é que tenha procurado exaustivamente, apenas procurei pelos locais onde ia passando e nenhum tinha. Este ano por exemplo, já encontrei uma caixa de dez unidades numa das minhas lojas preferidas. Trouxe-a comigo e ainda está por decidir o que farei com ela. 

My first thought was to get the real thing but I couldn't find them anywhere. Well, It's not like did look that hard for them, I just checked each place I went on my daily routine and none of those had it. This year though, I have already found a box of them in one of my fave shops and of course I brought one with me, still I need to figure out what to do with it yet. 

Para tal usei pipe cleaners (a tradução literal é limpador de cachimbo, não sei mesmo que nome se dá a isto em português). Foi só juntar um branco e um vermelho e enrolar um no outro. Depois cortei ao meio e cada metade foi usada para uma bengalinha, é só arredondar uma das pontas. Como usei nas prendas (colei) não acrescentei mais nada, mas quem quiser pode também colocar um fio fino na parte arredondada e pendurar na árvore de Natal ou onde lhe apetecer. 

To make this, I just grabbed two pipw cleaners, one red and one white and rolled them into each other. Then I cut it in half and each part was used to make a cane, I just needed to round one of the edges in order to get it finished. Since I glued mine to my gifts, I stopped here but if you plan on hanging them on your Christmas tree or anywhere else, you just have to tight a thin thread to it to do so. 

Podem também cortar mais pequeno ou maior. Cheguei a cortar em 3 partes iguais e foram as que achei mais fofas. Usei em quase todas as prendas que entreguei o ano passado e ainda tenho algumas que talvez use este ano, embora ande à procura de algo diferente para esta vez. E por ai? Alguma forma especial de distinguir os vossos embrulhos? 

You can also cut your canes longer or shorter. I did cut some in 3 equal parts to make mine and those were the cutest ones. I used most of them on my gifts last year but I still have a few that I might use again this year, though I'd rather find something different this time. What about you? Para além da família e dos amigos, gosto sempre de dar uma pequena lembranças às professoras/educadoras dos miúdos na altura do Natal. Normalmente gosto de lhes dar algo útil; no ano passado porém, não lhes dei nada, não consegui organizar-me e fazer tudo o que queria com toda a situação à nossa volta. 

Apart from family and  friends, I always like to give a little gift to my kids teachers/caretakers around Christmas time. Usually I like to give them something useful; last year though, I gave them nothing at all because I didn't come around to put myself together and make everything I wanted. 

Na esperança que as coisas corram melhor este ano, hoje já consegui acabar uma das quatro lembranças que pretendo fazer. Não é nada de original, mas penso que lhes posso dar jeito, principalmente à educadora e auxiliares do mais pequeno. Elas andam sempre com os lenços atrás de qualquer forma, assim com o chaveiro incluído sempre será mais fácil. Ou isso eu creio.

Hoping for things to go better this year, I have made the first gift for one of the four ladies that are responsible for my kids while they are at school. This is not a very original gift but I think it's handy, especially for those taking care of younger kids. They are always carrying tissues around, so I figured, having a keyring one would be easier. I hope so, anyway. 

Já fiz muitos destes porta lenços no passado, como até já vos mostrei aqui, penso que sejam os últimos que fiz antes deste - curiosamente também foram para as responsáveis pela minha filha naquela altura. Ainda assim, nunca tinha feito nenhum tipo porta chaves e não paro de me perguntar porquê. Leva literalmente um ou dois minutos a adicionar essa opção e faz toda a diferença. 

I have made a lot of these cases in the past, and here I showed you what I believe to be the last ones I had made previous to this one - funny enough, they were made for my daughter's carers too. But, I had never made a keychain version until today and I keep wondering why. It literally takes like one or two more minutes and makes all the difference. 

Senti-me mesmo bem por ter feito algo que demorou tão pouco a terminar. Quando acalmamos com o ritmo frenético de costuras como eu o fiz, acabar qualquer coisinha que seja dá-nos um grande prazer. E é assim que me tenho sentido nos últimos tempos. Comecei mais duas prendas e tenho avançado em ambas lentamente, sem presas e aproveitando cada momento. Uma delas é o quiet book que queria fazer, como vos disse no post anterior, e a outra... dou-vos uma pista... 

It really felt so good to get something done so quickly. When you break your frenetic sewing mood like I have a while ago, it is always such a huge pleasure to see something finished. That's how I've been feeling lately. I have started two more gifts and I've been slowly sewing them, taking my time and enjoying the process. One of those gifts is the quiet book I said I wanted to sew in my previous post, and the other... I'll give you a hint...

A Melissa do blog Rebel & Malice, tem publicado nestes últimos dias, ideias de presentes feitos à mão que conseguimos executar numa hora ou menos. Pelo meio tem algumas bloggers convidadas a partilhar algumas também e eu tenho o prazer de ser uma delas. E cabe-me fazê-lo hoje, com um passo a passo, para os ganchos coroa de princesa, que podem encontrar aqui. Entretanto, mostro-vos outras duas que fiz, uma delas a pedido da minha princesinha.

Se calhar é porque os meus filhotes estão bem fornecidos de roupa para os próximos tempos; ou porque eu realmente também, precisar, não preciso de nada especial para mim; ou simplesmente é porque me apetecem coisas diferentes, mas é facto que ando a costurar mais coisas para além de roupas e isso faz-me sentir confortável, fora da minha zona de conforto. Desta vez, aproveitei a tour da Radiant Home Designs, que celebra o 2º aniversário na criação dos seus moldes e fiz uma mochila. Já que estamos em Dezembro, e isto já comecei a fazer o mês passado, aproveito as tours para fazer algumas prendas de Natal, e este era o caso. Sim, era, porque depois de terminar gostei tanto da mochila que acho que vou ficar com ela. Está encostada, à espera que me decida.

Maybe it is because my kids already have plenty of clothes for now; or maybe it is because I don't really need new clother eithrr; or maybe, it is just because I feel like making different things lately,  the fact is that I've been sewing a few items besides clothes, and that makes me feel comfortable out of my comfort zone. This time, I jumped on the 2nd anniversary tour from Radiant Home Designs, and got the chance to sew a rucksack. It is December, and I've actually started doing this in November, but I am using tours to motivate me into making some Christmas gifts, and this was the case. Yes, it was, because after finishing I liked it so much that I am considering keeping this one to myself. It is waiting on me to decide. 

Este foi um dos primeiros dois moldes da Sara, a designer por detrás da marca, e foram recentemente atualizados e melhorados. De todos os seus moldes, escolhi este porque para mim me pareceu o mais interessante. Tive alguma dificuldade em encontrar os materiais indicados, fivelas, argolas, etc, mas acabei por me safar. Nem todos são iguais, com pena minha, mas servem para o efeito e quem sabe consiga encontrar alguns que coincidam mais tarde e possa trocar. Gosto que as alças permitam que a usemos às costas, ou ao ombro.

This was one of the two first patterns from Sara, the designer behind it, and they were recently updated and improved. Of all her patterns, I chose this one, which seemed to be the most interesting one in my opinion. I had some trouble trying to find the hardware for this one, but I got away with it. Sadly not all of them are the same (in color), but they do the job for now, and hopefully I'll be able to find the same equal ones to switch later. I really like that the way the straps are attached, allow it to be carried on your back or your shoulder. 

A minha mochila não está muito estruturada, a entretela que tinha grossa, não era suficiente, e fui demasiado preguiçosa para ir comprar mais, fiz a peça mesmo sem entretela e gostei da forma como cai, como ambos os tecidos eram pesados, não fica muito desengonçada. Usei bombazine grossa para a base, flanela para o forro, e o tecido principal das bolinhas é de algodão. A mochila, inclui dois bolsos interiores, num deles cabe o meu netbook à vontade, e o outro mais pequeno tem fecho e é forrado (o interior do fecho fica escondido), mais uma nova técnica que juntei ao reportório, cujo passo a passo pode ser encontrado aqui. No exterior, conta também com dois bolsos laterais, fecha com um dobra no topo e depois com ganchos. O molde trás a opção de incluir um fecho, mas eu passei à frente, sou um bocadinho avessa a fechos e ando a utilizar demasiados ultimamente.

My rucksack isn't as structured as it could be, the heavy interfacing I had wasn't enough for the project, and I was way to lazy to go and get some more, so I didn't use any, but I like how it looks, because my fabrics were all heavy it doesn't look too gangling. I used a wide corduroy as contrast, flannel for the lining and cotton for the main polka dots fabric. The rucksack comes with two interior pockets, my netbook fits the larger one perfectly, and the smaller ones closes with a professionally finished zipper (the zipper wrong side is hidden in the lining), a new technique for my list, which tutorial you can find here. On the exterior, there's also two side pockets, and the top of the sack folds and closes with hooks. There's also the option of adding a zipper, but I skipped it because zippers and I are not the best of friends and I feel like I've been using them too much lately.
