The Umaru Shirt |pattern by Sew Chibi|

Ao ver a minha filha sair hoje de casa vestindo esta blusa, lembrei-me que já a tinha feito há imenso tempo e que (COMO?) ainda não a tinha publicado. Foi há tanto tempo, que nem sequer me lembro bem quando é que a fiz exatamente e agora já lhe está a ficar curta (hoje foi provavelmente a última vez que a vestiu).

My daughter left the house this morning wearing this shirt and that made me realise I have made it like a life ago and (HOW?) I haven't posted about it yet. It was so long ago, I can't even remember exactly when I made it and it's now getting too short for her (today was probably her last time wearing it). 

Então, este é o molde Umaru Shirt, da super criativa Kat, dos moldes Sew Chibi. Já todos sabem que adoro o seu trabalho, não é? Bem, na verdade eu testei toda a coleção Umaru mas não publiquei nenhuma das peças. Além disso também testei outros moldes da Kat que nunca foram partilhados, tenho mesmo que começar a tratar disso. 

So, this is the Umaru Shirt, a pattern by the super creative Kat from Sew Chibi. You all know I love Kat's work, don't you? Well, I tested the full Umaru collection but fail to post any of it. I also tested other patterns for Kat, I have to start posting them all. 

Ó céus, o cabelo da minha filha estava tão curto aqui. E ainda tinha os dentes de leite. 😏 Adiante... o Umaru Shirt é um molde unisexo que pode ser personalizado de mil formas diferentes. Vai do tamanho 12/18M até aos 16A (o que significa que até para mim deve dar). 

Oh my gosh, my daughter's hair was so short here. And she still had her baby teeth. 😏Anyway... The Umaru shirt is a gender neutral pattern that you can costumise in thousands of different ways. It starts at size 12/18M and goes up to size 16Y (which means it'll fit me if I try to). 

Diverti-me imenso a costurar esta peça, escolhendo das opções disponíveis, e a minha filha, não poderia ter gostado mais. Lembro-me de ela a levar para a escola no dia após eu a ter feito e ter chegado maravilhada no fim do dia porque todos os amiguinhos não pararam de lhe dizer que era muito fixe e que adoravam as "orelhas". 

I had a lot of fun sewing this one, picking options and all that and my daughter couldn't love it better. I remember she took this to school the day after I finished and she came back so fascinated because all her friends kept telling her how cool her shirt was, and they loved the "ears". 

Então, para a fazer usei tecido que já tinha, são ambos iguais. Para as mangas e costas usei um floral para a tornar mais menininha e porque queria aproveitar o que tinha. Não tenho bem a certeza já, mas creio que é um tamanho 6, e estava perfeito na altura. Agora tem quase 8 e como disse acima, já começa a ficar pequeno. 

So, to make it I used fabric from my stash, they are the same. For the sleeves and back I used a flowerly fabric to make it more girly for her and because I wanted to use what I had. I'm not sure anymore but I believe this is a size 6 and the fit was perfect. She's almost 8 now and as I said above, sleeves are getting too short for her. 

O molde vem os os moldes para pintar a blusa. Claro que é opcional, como aliás imensos outros atributos, que tenho a certeza vos darão vontade de experimentar. Colorbloking ou não, mangas curtas ou compridas, com pintura ou sem (e aqui também são várias as opções), bolsos escondidos na frente ou não, eu fiz nesta já agora... Posso dizer-vos que por cá, foi um grande sucesso. Talvez seja altura de fazer uma nova?!

The pattern comes with all this templates to paint on the shirt. Of course it is optional, it has lots of options so you're going to want and try some I'm sure. Colorblocking, no colorblocking, long sleeves, short sleeves, painted, not painted (several options here too), secret front pockets, no secret front pockets, I made them here by the way... I can tell you this was a huge win here. Maybe it's time to make a new one?! 

Uvita Top |Itch to Stitch|

Um dos meus objetivos (na costura) para 2019 é voltar a costurar mais para mim. Os miúdos estão numa idade em que destroem tudo, e parte-me o coração ver as peças feitas à mão a serem destruídas. Além disso, a roupa para mulher apresenta-me mais desafios e tenho saudades disso - não foi o caso desta que hoje mostro. 

One of my (sewing) goals for 2019 is to sew more for myself again. Kids are at the age of destroying every single thing they own, and it breaks my heart to see a destroyed handmade. Besides, I think women's clothes are a bit more challenging and I miss that - it's not what happened with this one I am bringing in today though. 

Há um ano que tenho este tecido e desde que a minha amiga P. mo deu (depois de destralhar os tecidos dela - foi um saco cheio deles e tenho andado a usar ultimamente), que eu pensei logo em qualquer coisa do género. O molde Uvita top, da Itch to Stitch foi a escolha ideal. Quando o tema é costurar para mulher, esta designer é sem dúvida a minha eleita. Este foi foi na verdade o mais simples que já usei dela. 

I've had this fabric for a year and ever since my friend P. gave it to me (after destashing her own fabrics - she gave me a whole bag which I have been using lately), I've been wanting to make something like this. The Uvita Top, pattern by Itch to Stitch was the right choice. When it comes to women pattern designers, no one bits Itch to Stitch in my opinion. The Uvita top is actually the simpliest pattern I've used from this designer. 

Adoro o design da blusa, mas ainda gosto mais desta malha. Assenta tudo na perfeição e tenho-a vestido imensas vezes. Não tinha muita certeza que fosse resultar, mas resultou e podia fazer mais umas quantas. Pensei que 

I love the simple design of the shirt, but I love this knit even more. The fit is perfect and I've been wearing it a lot. I wasn't sure this would work in my fabric choice but it did, I could make a few more of these. 

Normalmente gosto de peças simples, sem grandes adornos (mesmo nas peças de compra), mas neste caso quis fazer algo diferente. Cheguei até a cortar as letras M e E (iniciais do meu nome) num tecido de pêlo, mas não gostei de ver como ficava. Fui em busca do plano B e cosi estas missangas que já tinha há uns anos. 

I usually keep my clothes simple. I am not one to love a lot of details in my garments (even when they are RTW), but I wanted this one to have something different. I've even cut the letters M and E (my name initials) in a furry fabric to applied them on the front of the shirt, but I didn't like how it looked. I looked for a B plan then, and sewed this grey beads I had for years. 

Boxy Boyfriend Tee #2

Uma vez que no último post vos mostrei uma das duas t-shirts que fiz quando testei o molde Boxy Boyfriend Tee (EYMM), fazia todo o sentido mostrar a outra também. Gosto imenso das duas, mas há detalhes nesta que a fazem um pouco melhor a meu ver. 

Since I showed you one of the Boxy Boyfriend Tee (EYMM) I tested in my latest post, it makes totally sence to post the second one now. I really love both but this one has a few little details that makes it a bit better, at least for me. 

Para começar sempre que a visto lembro-me de uma amiga querida porque foi ela quem me ofereceu o tecido. É um pouco transparente e nesta peça eu preferia que não fosse, ainda assim não o suficiente para eu não gostar dela e vestir vezes sem conta como tenho feito desde o primeiro dia. Poderão lembrar-se dele daqui também. Fiz a gola em V, e adicionei um minúsculo bolso com o padrão inverso à peça para lhe dar algum destaque. 

To start, every time I wear it, I remind myself of a dear friend because she offered me the fabric I used to make it. It is a bit see through, and it'd rather not for me for this piece, still not quite enough to make me not love it and wear it over and over as I have been doing since day one. You might remember this fabric from here too. I made the V neck option here, and added a tiny pocket on the front, using the stripes from the fabric on a different direction for contrast. 

Na lateral optei por fazer a pequena abertura tal como na versão anterior por ser um detalhe do qual gosto bastante (e sim, a frente é mais curta que a parte de trás). Além disso, não sei se conseguem ver, mas não consigo deixar de me babar com as linhas todas certinhas nas costuras laterais. 

I did the split hem again as I did in the previous version because that's a detail I really like (and yes, the front is shorter than the back piece). Besides, I don't know if you can see it, but I can't stop drooling over my matched stripes on the side seams. 

Boxy Boyfriend Tee #1

Disse-vos antes que ainda tinha coisas de 2018 por publicar?! Oh, eu tenho é uma série delas ainda de 2017 também (e se calhar ainda mais velhas), quanto mais de 2018. Vou começar por uma peça que talvez já tenham visto no meu instagram e que eu adoro, adoro, adoro. Umas das duas Boxy Boyfriend Tee, cujo molde testei para a EYMM. 

Did I tell you I still had stuff from 2018 to post?! Oh 2081, I still have stuff from 2017 too (or even older). I will start with something that you might have seen on my instagram before, and that I love, love, love. It is one of the Boxy Boyfriend Tee I made while testing the pattern for EYMM. 

Eu acho este molde perfeito, se calhar porque é mesmo o tipo de roupa que eu visto no meu dia a dia, bastante casual, leve e com a qual me sinto mesmo bem (geralmente os moldes EYMM costumam entrar nos meus preferidos). Esta t-shirt em particular vem em 11 tamanhos diferentes e fica bem a toda a gente. Tem 3 tipos de gola diferentes, 3 bainhas diferentes e outros acabamentos para personalizar ao nosso gosto. 

I think this is a perfect pattern, maybe because this is pretty much my style on a daily basis, pretty casual, light and making me feel really good about wearing it (usually that's why EYMM patterns make it to my faves). This tee particularly comes in 11 different sizes and it fits everyone so good. It has 3 different neck versions, 3 different hems and other finish touches to make it our own. 

Nesta em particular, usei a gola redonda, as mangas normais e a abertura nas costuras laterais. O tecido é uma malha leve, já nem me recordo se a comprei ou se a recebi de uma amiga, muito sinceramente, mas é leve e macia ao toque. Já foi usada imensas vezes e continua em perfeito estado. Quando o tempo começar a aquecer novamente pretendo fazer mais uma ou duas destas, mas por enquanto continua demasiado frio para sequer pensar nisso. 

In this one particularly, I used the crew neck option, plain sleeves and slipt hem. This fabric is a light knit I can't honestly even remember if I bought it or if I got it from a friend, but it is light and soft to the touch. It has been worn over and over and it still looks as good. One more or two are on my plans for whenever it starts to get warmer, for now, it is too cold to even think about it. 

PR&P15 |From outta space|

Ora bem! Não estava nada inspirada para esta semana. Tinha uma ideia inicialmente mas faltou-me a motivação para a levar adiante. Estava mesmo prestes a desistir de acompanhar o desafio desta semana, mas acabei por encontrar este tecido às riscas cinzentas e prateadas enquanto remexia nos meus tecidos, e achei-o apropriado para o tema, o prateado faz-me lembrar cenas do espaço e tal... 

Alright! I wasn't really inspired by this week's theme. I had an idea at first but no motivation to do it. I was actually ready to give up at all sewing along this week, but somehow, as I was going through my fabric stash, I came across this silver and grey striped fabric which I thought was appropriate, and silver reminds me of spacy stuff anyway... 

O tecido foi-me oferecido mais uma vez, desta vez pela minha amiga Patrícia, podem encontrá-los na loja Maçãs d'Amor.Este retalho foi o que me sobrou de uma camisola que fiz para mim no ano passado - agora por isso, nunca cheguei a publicá-la por aqui. Há uma foto no meu IG. Enfim... come já não era muito, não tive outra opção senão fazer dele o melhor possível e usar a imaginação. Usei o molde Hazel Blouse da Petite Stitchery & Co. Usei-o aqui também. 

The fabric was a gift again, this time from my friend Patrícia, you can get it over Maçãs d'Amor. This scrap I had was actually the leftovers from another shirt I made myself last year - which reminds me I haven't post about it yet. There's a photo on IG though. Anyway... because I didn't have a lot anymore I had no choice but work it the best I could and get creative. I used the Hazel Blouse pattern by Petite Stitchery & Co. I have used this pattern before, in here. 

Usei a opção da manga curta porque não tinha tecido suficiente para fazer as mangas em balão maravilhosas novamente. Para cortar a parte da saia da túnica aproveitei ao máximo o que sobrou depois de ter cortado todas as outras peças da parte de cima, assim que não segui as medidas das instruções. Também mudei o comprimento da banda das mangas, em vez de 5cm, eu cortei 12,5 cm. Costurei tudo esta manhã enquanto fazia o almoço e corria atrás do meu mais novo. Fiz um tamanho 6. 

I did the short sleeve option because I didn't have enough fabric to make those beautiful bubble sleeves again. Also, used as much as I could from what I got left after cutting all the top pieces to cut the skirt. I didn't follow instructions on cutting for this. I also changed the lenght of the sleeve band, in this case, I made it larger, instead of cutting 2" I cut it 5". I sewed it up this morning between making lunch and running after my youngest. I made a size 6. 

Depois de terminar o top olhei em volta, para algumas peças que tinha penduradas no meu espaço. Lá estava este Phresh Blazer de xadrez verde (molde da Winter Wears Designs, que já usei muitas vezes antes, aqui podem ver mais quatro. E esta semana acabei mais um!). Estava quase terminado havia semanas, só tinha alguns detalhes por fazer como terminar as mangas, fazer a casa para o botão, coser o mesmo e acabar de colocar a fita de viés na bainha. Por ser verde relacionei-o aos homenzinhos verdes (extraterrestres). 

After finishing the top I stared at the other pieces I had hanging in my craftroom. There was this green plaid Phresh Blazer (pattern by Winter Wears Designs, which I have used many times before - here's four more for you to see. I also finished another this past week!). It was nearly finished for weeks, I only had to do the sleeves, buttonhole and button and finish the bias binding on the hem. Because it was green, I related it to the little green fellas (alliens). 

O blazer tem várias opções e desta vez as que escolhi foram os folhos atrás que reciclei deste projecto, os bolsos embutidos com abas, e as mangas compridas e franzidas. Na verdade cortei o comprimento 3/4 porque não tinha tecido suficiente para cortar as compridas, mas depois cortei mais umas peças ao contrário do fio do tecido para criar um padrão contrastante e alongar as mangas. Oh, o tecido? Comprei-o no Pagapouco local há muitos anos. Já estava na hora de o tirar do armário. O tamanho escolhido foi o 8, porque o meu tecido não tem elasticidade como o molde pede, ainda lhe fica um pouco larguinho, mas já se sabe, assim dura mais tempo. 

The blazer has several options and this time I did the ruffles on the back, I actually recycled them from this project here, the inseam pockets with a welt and the long gathered sleeves. I actually cut the 3/4 sleeves option because, you know, I am trying to destash by fabrics and using what I have. I didn't have enough to cut the long sleeves, so I then cut another piece cut on the bias for contrasting print to add to the sleeve lenght. Oh, that fabric? Bought in a local shop many years ago. It was about time to get it out. I made a size 8 because my fabric didn't have any stretch as the pattern called for, it is still a bit too big for her but that's fine, it'll last longer. 

E para terminar, os calções - não sei como os relacionar com o tema, mas completam o meu look. ahahah Lembram-se de ter dito logo na primeira semana que os tinha cortados e meio começados em cima da mesa?! Pois bem, aqui estão. Acabei-os logo nos dias seguintes à publicação, e logo na primeira vez que a miúda os usou o fecho partiu. Era velho, tinha-o reciclado de alguma outra peça que desfiz anteriormente e não confirmei como costumo fazer se ainda estava bom. Fiquei tão fula comigo mesma, é que eu e fechos não somos os melhores amigos, e apesar de conseguir trocá-los e deixar tudo bonitinho na mesma,  o-d-e-i-o  ter de o fazer. Por acaso, arranjei-o ontem, mesmo a tempo para as fotos de hoje. 

And to finish, there's the shorts - I don't know how to relate them to the theme, but they would finish up my look. ahahah Remember how I said back in week one that I had the shorts cut and half started on my sewing table?! Well, here they are. I finished them just a few days after my post, and the very first time my daughter wore them the zipper broke. It was old, I reused it from some piece I refashioned in the past and although I usually test it before actually sewing it to a new garment, I haven't this time. I was so mad about it, just because zippers and I aren't friends, and although I can beautifully change a zipper, I  h-a-t-e  to do so. I fixed it yesterday, just in time to have it ready for today's photos.

O tecido é uma bombazine não muito grossa nem fina que comprei numa loja local há algum tempo, directamente do cesto dos retalhos, por isso mais uma vez não era muito. Era o suficiente para este projecto. Usei o molde 601 Calções de Menina da Burda Kids 1/2010 (da Espanha). Os calções têm um fecho com guarnição à frente, uma mola em vez de um botão porque a miúda ainda se debate com os mesmos, bolsos de encaixe na anca, cintura com elástico ajustável, pregas na frente, dobras na bainhas, pinças atrás e bolsos debruados com paletas. 

This is a medium light corduroy I bought locally, a long while ago, and I got it from the scraps bin, so not much once again. It was enough for this project though. I used the pattern 601 Girl's Shorts from Burda Kids 1/2010 (from Spain). The shorts feature a functional zipper fly, a snap instead of a button because my girl still struggles with them, side pockets, adjustable elastic waist, front pleats, folded hem, back darts and welt pockets with flaps. 

O tecido do forro que usei nos bolsos e na cintura, era apenas um pequeno retalho que recebi juntos com aquele lote imenso que uma leitora aqui do blog me enviou e do qual falo frequentemente. Ainda tenho muita coisa do mesmo por usar, apesar de ir usando em quase todas as peças que tenho vindo a fazer desde então. Era pedacinho era tão pequeno que tive que andar a remendar para conseguir a peça da cintura. 

The lining fabric I used in the pockets and waistband, was just a small scrap I got in that bundle a reader sent me a while ago, it came with so many pieces of fabric, I still have a lot although I've been using them in almost every project I made ever since I got them. This scrap was so small I had to patch it to get enough lenght for the waistband piece. 

PR&P15 |Temple of Artemis inspired|

Estou a costurar a par do Project Run & Play outra vez! Tive que ir espreitar a última vez que o fiz porque já nem me lembrava. Desde que vi que vinha uma nova temporada fiquei bastante empolgada e ansiosa para que começasse. O tema para a primeira semana são as 7 Maravilhas do Mundo e eu inspirei-me numa das Antigas: O Templo de Artemis. Fiz uma pequena pesquisa para saber mais sobre ele e encontrei infinitas possibilidades de o representar na roupa da miúda. 

I am sewing along Project Run and Play again! I had to check what my last entry about it was because I couldn't even remember. Somehow, I felt quite excited about this newest season, and couldn't wait for it to start. First week's theme is 7 Wonders of the World and I went with one of the ancient: The Temple of Artemis. I did a little research just to get to know more about it and I saw endless ways to represent it in my kid's clothes. 

Para vos ajudar a perceber por onde fui, ficam aqui os tópicos pelos quais me guiei. Então, é um templo Grego (embora tenha sido construído na Turquia) e foi dedicado à deusa Artemis, deusa da caça, florestas e dos animais selvagens. É frequentemente representada a carregar arcos ou setas. Eram-lhe oferecidos itens valiosos como jóias, etc. 

To help you understand, I listed the topics I noted before coming up with a design. So, this is a Greek temple (though it was built in Turkey) and  it was dedicated to the hunt, forests and wild animals goddess Artemis. Artemis is often depicted carrying a bow or arrows. People used to pay tribute to her by offering valuable items as jewellery, etc. 

Primeiro pensei em fazer um vestido, com inspiração nos drapeados e tecidos da antiga Grécia, depois mudei de ideias e procurei um look mais descontraído. Um casaco de pêlo pareceu-me uma boa maneira de começar,  representando os animais selvagens e a caça. Só tinha este tecido em pêlo meio esverdeado em casa ( que comprei a pedido da miúda!) e foi mesmo este o escolhido.

I first thought about making a dress, using greek-like fabric and drapes, then I changed my mind for a more daily look. I thought about making a fur coat to represent the animals and the hunt. I only had this greenish fur available (which I had previously bought under her request) and that's what I used. 

Para o forro usei dois tecidos diferentes, o verde que tem uma tonalidade linda e que me foi oferecido, e o de xadres verde e branco que usei no pequeno bolso secreto e também nas mangas porque não tinha suficiente do verde sólido. Para que o xadrez não se visse, coloquei uma barra do verde sólido no final das mangas.

I used two different fabrics for the lining, the solid green, which is gorgeous and was a gift, and the chess fabric which was just a scrap from my stash. I used this one on the little secret pocket and also on the sleeves because I didn't have quite enough of the solid green. I added a solid green band on the bottom of the sleeves though so the chess wouldn't be noticed. 

Usei o molde #11 Super Sweet da Ottobre 4/2015 para o fazer, e alterei-o mudando a frente e adicionando o forro. Os tamanhos deste molde vão do 86 ao 122 cm. Fiz o maior para ela, ainda não está bem nos 122 cm mas também já não tem apenas 116 cm e não quis arriscar, mesmo porque estamos em Março, supostamente entramos este mês na Primavera e o casaco terá mais uso no próximo inverno do que propriamente neste.

I used the #11 Super Sweet pattern from Ottobre 4/2015 to make it, and changed it by lining it, and slightly altering the front. The sizes start at 86 and go up to 122 cm. I made her the biggest one, she's not quite 122 cm yet, but she's not 116 cm anymore either, and it was saver like this, especially because we are in March now and Spring should be just around the corner, so this will get to be used more often next winter. 

Depois queria fazer-lhe um top e pintar algumas setas nele, mas encontrei por entre os meus tecidos um resto deste com a penas que usei para mim anteriormente (aqui) e que também me pareceu bem, e então em vez do top fiz-lhe uma t-shirt com o molde Hickory and Spice Henley, já que a vontade de a fazer vinha desde que fiz a versão menino para o meu filho.

I then wanted to make her a tank top and paint some arrows on it, but I found this feathered fabric in my stash and that I had used on me before (here) and figured this would look good too, so instead of the tank top, I made her a Hickory and Spice Henley, which I had been meaning to since I made the boy's version for my boy. 

Porém não fiquei lá muito satisfeita, e deve-se à minha escolha de tecido. Este é demasiado fino para o molde, e escorregadio, por isso não fiquei satisfeita com o resultado - as expetativas estavam lá em cima mas não correu tão bem. Penso que também deveria ter brincado mais com os diferentes tecidos e ter usado o preto na gola e no acento dos ombros como fiz com a dele. O modelo perde-se um pouco quando usado apenas o tecido principal. 

I wasn't so happy with how it turned out after all, and that was because this fabric was too thin and slippery and I disliked how it turned out. Expectations were high and it didn't meet them. I also think I should have used more color blocking on the shoulders and collar details, as I did with his. The designs gets a bit lost because I used the same main fabric. 

Tinha planeado fazer uns calções também, mas esqueço-me sempre que a vida se mete pelo meio e nem sempre o tempo chega. Já não consigo sacrificar horas de sono, ficando a costurar noite adentro como fazia quando só tinha a mais velha pequenina e não trabalhava fora, nessa altura apesar de tudo, era mais fácil costurar. Agora já não consigo, não chego a tudo, e os calções ficaram ali, cortados e meio costurados, na minha mesa de costura. O molde que estou a usar é da Burda. 

I had also planned a pair of shorts to go along, but I always forget how life can get in the middle and time is never enough. I just can't stand very late night sewing as I did when I had just one toddler and was a stay at home mom. It was easier to get some more sewing time back then, when I sacrificed hours of sleep. I just can't do that anymore, I can't reach it all, and my shorts are cut and started, but unfinished on my sewing table. I am using a Burda pattern. 

OT18 |Hickory and Spice Henley|

One Thimble 18 is out and I got to sew along for the releasing blog tour. I was so happy to find a boy pattern that I loved and fits right into the style I like to sew for my little one. Actually, this issue - as always - comes with a bunch of cute patterns, but I'll admit both of my favorite ones are boy patterns. 

So, yes! I got to sew the Hickory and Spice Henley, a pattern by Orange Daisy Patterns. It's the first time I sew anything from this brand and I was happily impressed. I believe I may have mention my love for notches on patterns, haven't I? A designer that goes a little further and adds the right notches to their patterns has my full respect! And that's what happened when I got to work with this pattern. So many notches, and such nice, detailed instructions/ilustrations. 

I made a straight size 3 for my boy and it fits him so well, I was surprised, he's usually a little bit under that. This boy is extremely hard to photograph because all he wants to do, all the time is run, run, and then run some more. If not running then rolling on the grass will do (as picture below confirms). I did get a few nicer shots, but it was me and hubby shooting at the same time, and sister trying to help, and we took hundreds of them, one of us would get a nice one, right?!

I just love everything about this one. It's been a while since I felt this happy about anything I made. It is true. I love the design, I love the henley closure, which by the way is the second one I made - ever - and went so much better than the first, I guess the tip shared for less bulk was a great one. 

I used snaps as closure but you can use buttons or anything else, there are a few suggestions included in the pattern. I just figures it'd be easier for us, everything has to be extra quick with this little man here. 

My fabric was refashioned from an old shirt I got from my cousin, in a huge pile of clothes. It was fully lined and I loved the lining so much I kept this for a few years, sitting there, waiting for the right project to come along. The outer piece was quite damaged, because it had been worn for work, but the lining was quite fine. I used the lining body to make the new shirt, and for the sleeves I used the outer sleeves for a bit of color blocking (this pattern is great for that by the way, with the shoulders detail and the placket, also a ruffle hem in the girls options). 

I feel like I need to make him one in all the sleeve options available, and also make the girl's version for his sister. Ajaire made the cutest one for her daughter and got me inspired to sew my daughter one too. I will probably do mine in very different colors, but I still find that one so cute! OH, and remember how I said my two favorite patterns were boy ones? Well, I got to test another pattern featured in the magazine. It was the Super Tough Jeans by Suco by Susana and I SO LOVE THEM. Why didn't I blog it though? Well, the size range of those starts at size 3, and since I tested it in an early stage, a few months ago, size 3 was a bit too big on my tiny 3 year old. I haven't tried it on him lately, but I have to, and if they fit, be sure I'll be posting about it too.

Acho que estávamos em Setembro quando testei o molde Plain Sunshine Tee pattern, da Sew by Pattern Pieces. Adoro tudo nele. Por ter esperado tanto tempo para o publicar, não recordo muito, mas creio que fiz o tamanho 6 para a minha filha e que assentou na perfeição. Eu fiz parte da primeira fase de teste, em que se pretendia verificar os tamanhos. Depois passou por uma segunda fase em que se testou o design original que justifica o nome do molde (foto retirada da loja abaixo). 

I think we were back in September when I tested this Plain Sunshine Tee pattern, by Sew by Pattern Pieces. I just love everything about it. Because I waited so long to blog about it, I can't remember a lot, but I believe I made my daughter a size 6 and it was spot on. I was part of the first phase of the test, when we made the shirts plain, to test the fit. Then there was phase two, with the most amaizing design, which justifies the name of this pattern (photo from the shop below). 

Adoro que a camisola seja pouco apertada no pescoço, o formato mais curto à frente do que atrás, e que seja confortável ao vestir. Já para não dizer o quanto a miúda gostou imenso desta peça, foi daqueles que quando vestiu, já não a quis tirar depois das fotos. E isso é muito gratificante para uma mãe que costura para os seus filhos. 

I love that it isn't too tight on the neckline, the highlow design and that it is so comfortable to wear. Not to mention the miss loved it so much, she wore it right away and it was one of those pieces she didn't want to take out after the photos. That's quite gratifying for a mom sewing for her kids. 

Estava aqui a olhar para estas fotos e a perceber como a camisola já não lhe serve tão bem desde estas fotos. Ela cresceu desde Setembro, as mangas ficaram mais curtas, tal como o comprimento em geral da peça. Os miúdos crescem muito depressa, não crescem? 

I am here looking at these photos and realising this doesn't fit her as good as in these photos anymore. She has grown since September, those sleeves are shorter now and the overall lenght of the piece. Kids grow too quick, don't they? 

O meu tecido é da loja habitual, e adicionei-lhe uma aplicação de uma boneca Gorjuss. É na realidade uma aplicação daquelas que precisa de ferro para colar e comprei-a numa loja dos chineses aqui perto. Da primeira vez não ficou bem colado e saltou um pouco quando ela vestiu a peça, mas voltei a colar com o ferro e tem-se aguentado bem. O engraçado foi ter-me dado conta que consegui uma trasferência da ilustração no pano branco que usei quando lhe dei com o ferro. 

My fabric came from the usual shop and I've added the Gorjuss doll appliqué. It is actually an iron on transfer I bought at a local shop. It unglued after the wore it the first time, but I just ironed it better after and it is there still strong. The funny thing was to notice that the ilustration got printed in the white scrap I used over it as I ironed. 

Agora, a única coisa que ainda tenho a dizer é que tenho de imprimir o molde num número maior e fazer mais um par de camisolas destas, porque por aqui fez imenso sucesso. Se ao menos eu tivesse a mesma energia de há um par de anos para costurar. 

So, the only thing I have left to say is that I need to get this pattern printed in a larger size and make some more of these, because it absolutely was a winner around here. If only I had the same energy to sew that I had a couple of years ago.

Minha gente, acaba de sair um novo molde pelo qual fiquei encantada. É o Dress Up Hoodie da Mouse House Creations é é qualquer coisa de especial. Além de que é perfeito para esta altura do ano, para quem gosta de festejar o Halloween. Mesmo que ainda não tenham costurado um fato para os miúdos, não se preocupem, este molde pode-vos salvar. 

People, there's a new pattern out there that got me amazed. It is the Dress Up Hoodie from Mouse House Creations and it really is something special. Just perfect for this Halloween season. Even if you're running behind with a costume, don't panic, this pattern might save you. 

O meu piolho tem de se mascarar dia 31 na escolinha e eu não tinha nada para ele até há dois dias, quando acabei este novo hoodie. Escolhi fazer a versão "morcego" para ele e ficou bem melhor do que eu esperava. Como não me dava tempo de encomendar uma malha à medida para este projeto, e preta como um pequeno morcego pede, acabei por usar o que tinha à mão. O que uma vez terminado, veio reforçar a minha ideia de que a nossa criatividade se apura sempre que temos de improvisar. Modéstia à parte, tornei-me muito boa nisso. 

I live in Portugal and we don't celebrate Halloween as people do in the USA, for example, but kids get to wear spooky costumes at school, and teens are actually doing trick or treat too for these past few years, first they were very shy, just a few, but now we hear them out all the time. The bad thing is that they do a lot of nasty stuff with the "halloween" excuse. Anyway... my boy needed a costume to wear at school next tuesday, and I had zero until two days ago when I finished this hoodie. I chose to make the "bat" for him and it got even better than I hoped for. I knew I didn't have the time to order the right knit for this project, in color and type, as a bat deserves, I just worked with what I had. Once finished, it just reinforced my belief that creativity improves every time you're forced to improvise. And modesty to the paret, I became pretty good at that. 

Mas continuando, usei uma malha mais fina, que em tempos foi uma fronha de almofada XXL, e que já tinha usado parte anteriormente. Não é completamente branca embora assim parece nas fotos, tiradas ao fim da tarde, numa luta contra o pôr do sol, e quase em desespero porque 1º não se queria virar para a máquina, depois não queria o capucho na cabeça, e só para irritar depois já não queria nada, até pediu para tirar o hoodie e tudo. Sempre foi do contra, fazer o quê? E olhem que ele delirou quando viu a peça... até gritou BATMANNNNN. Ainda conseguimos algumas que d´´a para vos mostrar os detalhes da peça, por isso já me dou por satisfeita. 

And on we go, I used a light knit, that was a XXL pillow cover, and which I had used a piece of a while ago. It is not totally white as it seems to be in these pictures, taking late in the afternoon, in a duel with the sunset, and almost in despair because this kid didn't want to stare at the camera first, then he didn't want to have the hood on his head and to finish, he just didn't want to wear it at all asking us to take it off. He's always been this way, what can I do? Believe me when I say he actually liked it a lot when he saw it... he even screamed BATMANNNNN. We did get a few shots though, which I think are just enough to show you the details. 

O molde é composto por vários animais, uns com capas, asas, unicórnios, caudas, orelhinhas, enfim... é muita fofura junta, e a mais velha também já fez o seu pedido. Para este usei o molde base do hoodie, dispensei o bolso da frente e em vez disso, desenhei (a olho mesmo) um morcego num papel, cortei-o em flanela (o que se revelou uma óptima opção, já que a flanela aderiu bem à malha, dando-lhe estabilidade e facilitando a sua aplicação - feita com um ponto zigue-zague muito pequenino). Usei as orelhas e asas de morcego, estas últimas são costuradas nas mangas, para as quais usei também a flanela. Era o único tecido preto na minha coleção que me pareceu indicado. 

The pattern is made out of several different animals, some have capes, wings, horns, tails, hears, as so... it's too much cuteness altogether, and my oldest has requested her own as well. For this specific one, I used the basic hoodie, skipped the front pocked and instead I free hand drafted a bat in a papel, then cut it on flannel (which was a great option, since it adhered to the knit nicely, give it some stability and making the sewing task much easier - applied with a very small zig zag stitch). I used the bat ears and wings, this last one is sewed to the sleeves, and I used flannel for them too. This was the only fabric in my stash that seemed appropriate for the project. 

Adoro ver as asas a abrir e a fechar conforme ele mexe os braços. Ainda pensei que se poderia tornar desconfortável quando ele os estica mais para a frente, mas aparentemente isso não acontece, pelo menos não se queixou. As nossas orelhinhas não se aguentam de pé, muito possivelmente porque o tecido não tem corpo suficiente para se manter, ainda assim não deixar de ser super fofas. Agora, penso que devia ter usado preto para os dois lados, frente e trás. Ah, e os punhos são reciclados de hoodies de adulto. 

I love to see the wings moving as he opens or closes his arms. I thought it'd be uncomfortable for him when he pulls his arms forward, but aparently that doesn't happen, or at least he did not complain yet. Our ears don't stand up, possible because our knit hasn't got enough structure to stand, nonetheless they are still pretty cute. Staring at it now, I think I should have used the black fabric for front and back. Oh, and our bands were recycled from adult hoodies. 

Se ele gostou? Claro que sim! A foto acima confirma-o. Só queria que este calor passasse duma para que terça feira o miúdo não assasse dentro do hoodie. E para quem desse lado gostou da ideia, ainda vão a tempo de espreitar todas as outras opções disponíveis e comprar o molde em desconto (link lá acima, logo no início deste post). Têm o fim de semana para pôr mãos à obra. Depois juntam umas calças pretas (que é o que eu vou fazer) e em duas horas têm um disfarce pronto. 

Did he like it? Oh yes! The above photo seals that. I just wanted this hot weather to be finally gone for good, so tuesday the boy wouldn't bake inside the hoodie.
