#TSNEM: Edible Crafts

O mês passado acabei por não concluir o projecto que tinha pensado fazer (pela primeira vez). O tema era pintura e pensei em experimentar, eu e a miúda, pintar com a boca, mas não se realizou, quem sabe em breve. O tema deste mês foi o "comestível" e a meio do mês concluí o nosso (sim, meu e da miúda mais uma vez). Fizemos bolachas. Sim, já tínhamos feito bolachas antes, mas isto foi uma daquelas coisas que vemos no Pinterest a toda hora e decidi experimentar (não segui nenhum tutorial, pareceu-me óbvio o como era feito. A ideia (criativa) era conseguir colocar um coração no meio das bolachinhas. Como correu? ahahahaha... mal! LOL Nalgumas até se nota qualquer coisa parecida com um coração, mas noutras, aquilo só me deu vontade de rir. Vejam as fotos. A miúda juntou os ingredientes todos, depois amassou a massa, separei-a em duas partes, uma maior que deixei na sua cor normal, e depois dividi a segunda em três, a cada qual adicionei uma cor diferente de corante: vermelho, azul e verde. Foi ao frio para endurecer. Depois esticámos a massa, e cortámos corações que empilhámos por cor. Usámos a massa sem cor para formar um rolo com os corações no meio. Acho que não correu tão bem porque a nossa massa estava um pouco mole demais, deveria ter colocado no frigorifico mais um pouco depois deste passo. Ou talvez esta receita de bolachas não fosse a ideal, por isso acho que ainda é possível que experimente fazer novamente. Cortámos esse rolo em fatias de cerca de 0,5 cm e colocámos no forno. E pronto. As nossas bolachas ficaram assim... umas melhores que outras. Ah. com os pedacinhos de massa que sobraram, fizemos rolos compridos, tipo cobras, entrelaçámos os colorido e usámos o resto da massa à volta, com esse rolo mais pequeno, fizemos mini bolachas coloridas. Foram as primeiras a desaparecer. Eu, nem provei. 

Last month I did not make the project I thought of making (for the first time). The theme was painting and I thought about trying painting with our mouths, me and my daughter, but we didn't make it, who knows maybe sometime soon we do. This month's theme is "edible", and we did our about 2 weeks ago (yes, we, me and my girl again). We made cookies. Yes, we have made them before, but this was one of those things we keep seeing in Pinterest all the time and I chose to try it (I did not follow a tutorial, it just seemed obvious to me how to make them). The (creative) idea was to put a heart in the center of our cookies. How did it go? ahahahaah.. badly! LOL In some of the cookies you could tell there was something somehow like a heart, in others though, there was just something that made me laugh. See the photos. The girl mixed all the ingredients, kneaded the dough, I divided it in two parts, one bigger that I left as is, and a smaller part that I divided again into three parts to add food coloring in: red, blue and green. After the freeze, to get it harder, we cut hearts with it and made sort of a tower with it, after that, we used the regular dough to cover it all around, making a roll with the hearts in the middle. I think this didn't go better because our dough wasn't hard enough, maybe I should have put in back in he fridge for a little bit more after this step. Or maybe this recipe wasn't a good one to make this. I might try to do this again sometime. We've cut slices of nearly 0,5 cm and put it in the woven to bake. After that, they look like this...some better than the others. Oh, and with the little bits of dough that were left, we made sort of snake shapes with each color, rolled them together, used the regular dough around and cut into mini cookies. Those were the first to desapper, I didn't even got the chance to taste them.

Deixei o projeto de Fevereiro para os últimos dias, por isso, só o acabei mesmo no último dia do mês. Infelizmente, apesar de ter fotografado no próprio dia, acabei por não conseguir publicar sobre o mesmo até ao dia de hoje. Para quem não sabe que do que falo, pode espreitar este post. O tema para este mês era uma manualidade tátil, o que me serviu de desculpa perfeita para finalmente fazer algo que eu queria experimentar há mesmo muito tempo. 

I left February's project for the final days, and that's why I have finished it right on the last day of the month. Alhough I was able to take photos right away, unfortunately it wasn't possible for me to post about it until the present day. To those who don't know what am I talking about, check out this post. The theme for the month was tactile crafts, which was the perfect excuse to make something I've been planning to for far too long. 

Já há alguns anos que cá em casa deixámos de comprar sabonete líquido, usamos sempre os sabonetes em barra porque a diferença de preço-duração é imensa, por isso, trocar uma coisa por outra foi um hábito que se ganhou entre nós. No entanto, o sabonete líquido é bem mais prático, é verdade, e é por isso que ando há tempos com isto na ideia, fazer em casa. Vejamos, eu não sei qual a quantidade ao certo que rendeu, mas foi o suficiente para durar por muito tempo, e pelo preço de uma barra de sabonete. Podem usar também raspas que sobrarão de outros. 

For a few years now, we gave up buying liquid soaps in our house, we always use bars because the price and time they long comparing to the liquid ones is too much, so, we switched one thing for the other and quickly got used to it. Of coursee, liquid soap is more practical though, and that's why I have been wanting to try this for a while. Let's see, I don't know how much exactly I got but I know it was enough to last a good while, and for the price of a soap bar only. You can also use scrapings from others. 

É das coisas mais fáceis de fazer. A sério. Bastou-me uma rápida procura pelo google para encontrar um sem fim de passo a passos para executar a técnica. Depois de ler vários, optei pelo que me pareceu mais simples, bastou ralar uma barra de sabonete, juntar 12 copos de água e 1 ou 2 colheres de sopa de glicerina liquida. Levar a aquecer em fogo lento, e quando ferveu mexi muito bem para diluir. Deixei arrefecer e colocar nos frascos. No caso do meu, ficou a arrefecer da noite para o dia e pela manhã estava pastoso e não líquido, mas foi só juntar mais um pouco de água quente e mexer bem até ficar cremoso. 

It is the quickiest thing to make. Really. After a quick google search, I found lots of tutorials on how to do it. After reading a few, I went the with what seemed easier to me, all I had to do was to grate a soap bar, mix it with 12 glasses of water and 1 or 2 table spoon(s) of liquid glycerin. Hit it on low temperature, and when it boiled, I had to stir to dilute well. Let it to cool down and put it in the jars. In my case, I let it cool overnight, so in the morning I had a more doughy product rather than liquid, but that was quick to fix, I just had to pour a bit of hot water and stir some more until it got just right. 

#TSNEM Quilting

O ano passado acompanhei, enquanto espectadora, as experiências que a Stephanie to blog Swoodson Says ia fazendo todos os meses, uma vez que se propôs a fazer algo novo/pela primeira vez todos os meses. Este ano, juntei-me ao grupo no facebook e aceitei o desafio. Existe um tema para cada mês, que serve como motivação, mas não precisamos seguir à risca. Podem saber mais aqui.

Last year, I have followed Stepahnie's (from Sweoodson Says) experiments, as she completed her challenge of trying something new every month. This year, I joined the facebook group and accepted joining in the challenge too. There's a monthly theme to be used as motivation, but you don't have to follow it. You can read more about it here. 

O tema para Janeiro era quilting, e eu levei a maior parte do mês só a tentar decidir o que haveria de fazer. Ainda pensei pegar num individual que fiz há algum tempo e terminá-lo, mas depois dei uma oportunidade ao english paper piecing e saiu uma pequena amostra que fiz, só mesmo para experimentar, para ver como me saia.

January's theme was quilting, and it took me nearly all month just to decide what should I do. I thought about finishing a placemat I started long time ago, but then I gave english paper piecing a chance and I got a small sample, just to try it out, and check how I do. 

Não me sai lá muito bem, acho que não é suposto que se vejam os pontos. Mas achei piada à coisa, embora ache também que não será algo que farei muitas vezes ou em grandes peças. Requer muita paciência e isso está mais do que provado que não é o meu forte. Fiz o meu molde, o que também foi uma primeira vez e isso sim, correu muito bem. Já estou com o próximo tema/projeto delineado, e pronta a começar, vamos ver se não enrolo durante muito tempo. E sim, consegui publicar antes que o mês acabasse, pois andava a adiar e adiar.

I didn't do that well, I don't think the stitches are supposed to be visible. I kinda like it, althought I think it's something that I won't be making too often or in a large scale. It requires a lot of patience which is proved not to be my strong point. I made the pattern, which was a first time too, and that, well, that did in fact go pretty smooth. I already have the next theme/project lined, and ready to start, let's see if I don't chew it for too long. And yes, I did it, I posted this before the month ended, I've been postponing over and over.
