Burda refashioned skirt

Quem lê este blog há já algum tempo, é capaz de se lembrar da saia ali de cima, que fiz para o Challenge Create. Estavamos em 2014 e eu grávida do meu rapaz. Gostava imenso da saia e vesti-a muitas vezes, mas acabei por me cansar dela. Deixei de me sentir confortável com a mesma, e tentei transformá-la noutra mais composta. 

You may remember the skirt above, which I made for Challenge Create, if you're a long time reader of this blog. We were in 2014 and I was pregnant with my boy. I loved it and I wore it quite a few times, but then I just got over it, I didn't feel comfortable with it anymore, so I tried to make it into a more fitted garment. 

Há cerca de um ano, peguei num molde da Burda - na verdade era um molde de criança - mas que era precisamente aquilo que eu pretendia fazer. Como a saia era apenas tubular, bem simples, transformá-la foi canja. Só tive que cortar o cós para fora e usar o resto como tecido normal. Ah, e tem bolsos nas laterias.

Around a year ago, I grabbed myself a Burda pattern - it was a kid's pattern actually - but it was just what I wanted to use to transform this skirt. Since it was just a tube skirt I only had to cut off the waistband, and use it as normal fabric. Oh, and it has pockets on the sides. 

 A nova saia, tem uma cintura mais à medida, forma circular e fecha atrás com botões e fecho invisível. Acho que já comentei que os fechos, independentemente de há quantos anos costuro, são algo que me mete um bocado de medo, principalmente os invisíveis, por isso, dado o resultado desdte, posso considerar que até correu bem. 

The new skirt has a new fitted waistband, a circle cut and closes on the back with buttons and an invisible zipper. I believe I've told you before, that no matter how long I've been sewing, zippers always kind of make me nervous, especially invisible ones, so, I guess I did pretty good, and I am pleased with the results.

Andei a arrumar pastas de fotos e dei com algumas costuras que ainda não publiquei por aqui. Vou tentar publicar algumas gradualmente. Começo com este pequeno vestido que fiz no último Natal para oferecer à pequena R., a filhota mais nova da minha colega. Queria fazer-lhe algo mas que não exigisse demasiado de mim, pois andava naquela fase em que coser não era mesmo prioridade. 

I've been organising some picture folders and found some sewing projects I've done but never posted, so eventually, I will post some of them. Staring now with this little dress I made last Christmas as a gift for my colleague's baby daughter. I wanted to make her something, but it had to be easy on the go, since I was going through a no sewing mood. 

Usei um molde da revista Ottobre, agora não vos sei dizer qual em particular pois já não tenho essa informação aqui à mão. É um molde simples, de poucas peças e costurado em malha, o que me facilitou imenso. No fim, quando o terminei deu-me uma satisfação enorme. 

I used a pattern from Ottobre magazine, but I can't tell which right now, I don't have that info nearby anymore. It's a simple pattern, with just a few pieces and made of knit, so it was quite the thing  needed. At the end, when finished, it felt quite satisfying. 

O tecido também já cá andava há algum tempo. Inicialmente pretendia fazer um pijama para a minha miúda com ele, mas a verdade é que com a pouca vontade que tinha para costurar, a miúda foi crescendo e agora, mesmo que eu quisesse, penso que o tecido que tinha já não seria suficiente para ela. 

The fabric was already in my stash for a while too. At first I was saving it to make my girl a pajama with it, but with the liitle will to sew, the kid grew and now, even if I wanted to sew it, I don't think the fabric was enough to make it.

Com esta história do Covid-19, e apesar de continuar a trabalhar fora (amanhã será o último dia, depois entro de férias durante 15 dias), as rotinas fora de casa (excepto trabalho) acabaram, e portanto tenho mais tempo em casa. Tenho também os miúdos e há que dedicar-lhes muito tempo, claro, mas consegui encaixar alguma costura no meio de tudo isto. 

With all this Covid-19 story, and although I am still working out (tomorrow will be my last day before a two week holiday period), routines outside have ceased (except for work), so, I have more time at home. I also have my kids with me and there's a lot of time spent with and for them, of course, but I still managed to include some sewing in between. 

Há muito tempo que queria ter feito uns boxers novos ao meu miúdo, mas fui adiando, como quase tudo o resto, já sabem. Há uns anos, na altura em que ele começou a largar a fralda, fiz-lhe uns três porque para o tamanho dele não estava a ser fácil encontrar nas lojas. Nunca cheguei a publicar por isso, posso perder um tempinho agora, para vos falar desses. Para esses primeiros boxers que lhe fiz, peguei num exemplar que tinha de compra e desenhei o molde por esses. Para os confeccionar, usei restos de t-shirts que tinha usado em projetos anteriores. Falta um na foto, mas era igual ao das riscas. 

For a while I've been wanting to make some new boxers for my kiddo, but got postponed, as pretty much all the rest, as you know. A few years ago, right when he started potting training, I made him three since it was hard to get his size at RTW stores. I never got to post them, so I guess I can go a little about them now. For those first ones I grabbed an existing pair and copied the pattern. To sew them, I used scraps from t-shirts I had previously refashioned in other projects. There's one missing in the photo, but it was the same as the stripped one. 

Desta vez, usei o molde Boys Boxer Briefs (Shwin & Shwin), um molde PDF grátis, com um só tamanho (5/6). Antes de os fazer ainda pensei que fossem ficar ainda um pouco grandes ao miúdo, mas já estreou o do astronauta (que foi o seu preferido), e está melhor do que o esperado. Acho que vou fazer mais uns quantos, assim que arranjar mais tempo (nos últimos dias, as costuras têm sido só de máscaras). 

This time around, I used the Boys Boxer Briefs (Shwin & Shwin), a free PDF pattern, with a single size (5/6). Before I actually sew them I thought they would be a bit too big for my little man, but he has used one of them already (his fave, the one with the astronaut), but they fit better than I could imagine. I think I might make a few more, as soon as I get a bit more time (all the sewing from the last few days has been dedicated to making face masks).

Os tecidos já faziam parte da minha coleção pessoal. Um foi comprado numa ida a Lisboa, o outro trouxe do cesto dos retalhos de uma loja local. O primeiro é mais fino, o segundo mais pesado, não sei se ele gostará tanto de os usar, mas ao mesmo tempo parecem-me mais confortáveis também. 

I used fabric from my stash. One was bought in a visit to Lisbon and the other one came from the scraps bin at a local shop. The first is thinner , the second heavier, I don't know if he'll like this one as much, even though they look more comfortable at the same time. 

A seguir, devo de costurar uns interiores para a princesa e para mim. Também estão na lista há uma imensidão de tempo. O que tens costurado tu? 

Next, I should be sewing some underwear for my princess and myself. Those are on my list forever as well. What have you been sewing?

Durante meses tentei passar ao lado dos testes a moldes que vi online, simplesmente sabia que não ia estar à altura por isso não valia a pena participar, assim que fui resistindo (cheguei até a voltar atrás quando já estava a preencher o formulário).

For months I tried to pass by all the pattern test calls I saw online, I just knew I wouldn't be up to it after all, so I although I really wanted to at times, I just passed (sometimes I was already filling a form to apply, and would just close the whole thing instead).

Estava então a correr bem, mas, como mencionei na última publicação, também andava com muita vontade de costurar, embora perdida e sem saber muito bem por onde começar. A Suco by Susana, apareceu então com o teste ao seu último molde e isso foi aquilo que eu procurava e precisava. Gosto do estilo casual e prático dos seus moldes, por isso dei-me à tarefa e fiz uma camisola para cada um dos miúdos. 

I was doing just fine on my refuse to apply, but as I mentioned in my last post, I was also getting into a sewing mood, though kinda lost on what to sew or finding the starting point to anything at all. Suco by Susana's call for her latest pattern was just what I needed. I have a thing for her casual and practical patterns, so I jumped in to help with the testing and made one sweatshirt for each kid.

Comecei com a dele. O molde tem várias opções por onde escolher. Para ele combinei o tamanho 4 na largura e 5 no comprimento. Dispensei o capucho e usei a gola. Também usei o color blocking na frente e mangas. Uma das coisas que mais gostei neste molde, comparando com outros do género foi o detalhe do acabamento da gola. Dá uma ar mais limpo à peça feita à mão, e isso é um bónus. 

I started with his. There are a lot of features on the pattern to choose from. I made him I combined size 4 width and 5 regular lenght. Skipped the hood and finished with a neckband. Also did the color blocked front and sleeves. One of the things I liked best and makes a difference comparing to other sweatshirt patterns/tutorials, is the use of the neckline seam cover. It gives a much cleaner look to your handmade, and that's a bonus. 

Para ela, fiz o tamanho 7 de largura e de comprimento o 8, mas curto (uma das opções que diferenciam molde). Foi ela que escolheu os tecidos e as opções que usei. Teve a excelente ideia de usar o pêlo que eu já tinha usado anteriormente no seu unicórnio* e o casaco que adora  (estamos ambas tristíssimas pois já está a deixar de servir). Acabei a gola como a dele e larguei o color blocking das mangas. 

For her, I did a size 7 width and a cropped size 8 lenght. She picked the fabrics and options for this one. She had this great idea of using the fur fabric I had used in her unicorn* and the coat she loves dearly (we're both so sad she's growing out of it). Also did the neckband option for her and skipped the color block on the sleeves.

Too late to wish a happy new year?

Olá, olá! Quem é vivo sempre aparece. O meu último post neste blog foi há quase um ano, nunca fiquei tanto tempo sem publicar nada. Já devem ter pensado que das duas uma: ou desisti dele, ou desisti de costurar, certo? Pois bem, nem uma nem outra. Sou apenas um ser humano comum que com o tempo encontra outros interesses, quer alcançar outras coisas, ou simplesmente anda tão cansada que falta energia até para as coisas que tem como mais queridas para si. E sejamos sinceros, isto dos blogues leva o seu tempo.

Hello there! Guess who's back? My latest post was nearly a year ago, and this has been as much longer as it's ever been before. You probably thought one out of two: I either gave it up, or I gave up on sewing, right? Well, neither. I'm just a common human being, who hardly finds time for other interests, who wants to make things work, or is just too tired to even care for the things one loves the most. And let's face it, blogging takes time. 

Foi também, faltando cada vez mais, motivação, força de vontade para principalmente documentar as coisas que ia fazendo. Não deixei de costurar por completo. Isso sim, costurei muito menos em 2019 que em todos os anos anteriores. Mas a máquina continua montada e pronta a usar sempre que necessário.

My motivations was also facing some of its worst days, especially when it came to document the things I was sewing. I haven't put sewing aside, not at all, but I did sew much less in 2019 than I did in all those previous years. Though my machine is still set and ready for me to use any time I feel like. 

Para além das poucas peças que costurei no último ano, basicamente dediquei-me a um desafio que já tinha acompanhado em 2018. O ano passado, decidi então participar também quando o voltei a ver em 2019. Chama-se #365 Block Project e consistia em costurar um bloco em patchwork por cada dia do ano, usando apenas pequenos retalhos. Eu escolhi usar todos os retalhos (sobras) que tinha, em vez dos sólidos, como a autora se desafio. Vejam mais imagens deste desafio AQUI. Na foto alguns dos meus blocos. 

Besides the few little thing I made last year, I basicly focused on a challenge that I had been following back in 2018. I decided to play along too, as I saw it back in 2019. It's the #365blockproject and it was about sewing a patchwork block every single day of the year, using only small scraps from our stash. I chose to use all of my scraps, instead of the solid ones only, as the author from the challenge. You can follow this HERE. In the picture, some of my blocks. 

Ando com muita vontade de costurar ultimamente, mas tem-me sido ultra difícil decidir o que costurar. Ideias não faltam, mas na hora de começar, acho sempre que deveria fazer outra coisa qualquer. Desde que me mudei para esta casa, as ganas para a costura têm sido postas à prova. Deixei de ter o meu espaço próprio para o efeito. Quando antes tinha todo um quarto para a costura, agora tenho tudo arrumado por vários cantos da casa, e fora da vista. Isso desmotiva na hora de criar. Sou daquelas pessoas que criativamente falando, funciona melhor no caos. 

I've been itching a lot to get back into sewing, but it has been a hard come back. I'm not really shorts on ideas, but everytime time I tried to start something, right away I find myself thinking I should be sewing something else instead. Ever since I moved to this house, my sewing mood has been declining. I no longer have a sewing room. I used to have an entire room for myself, but now I have my stash away in several different places of the hose, and out of sight. That ends all my motivation when I think about creating. I am one of those people who creates better in caos. 

Hoje não tenho muito para mostrar, é mais blá blá blá que outra coisa, mas queria publicar isto antes de começar a partilhar as peças que costuro com o mundo outra vez. Este post estava em rascunho desde o início do ano, não queria que se perdesse. 

Today there isn't much to show, it's more blah blah blah than anything else, but I still wanted to post this sort of disclusure before I start sharing my me mades again. This one has been on draft since the new year started, and I didn't want to lose it.
