More underwear

I can't say that underwear is THE thing I've been sewing the most around here these days, because I'd be lying, only because masks requests have been more than many, and I just can't say no. I guess I could say that underwear, is indeed the second most sewn in this house for the last couple of months. I don't know if anyone remembers I did a one year no buying clothes back in 2013, and recently I just felt like I needed to do something like that again, I was going no control lately. OK. I did these underwear pieces before I made the decision again, but I guess somehow I was already made up about stopping the waste around here. Waste of our money, waste of my time... So, when I say my kids always had and still have a lot of clothes, I's no joke, or at least, it looks like too much for me, anyway. They do have plenty enough to go through each season without the need to buy anything... except for... yeap... drum roll... underwear! They get lots of hand-me-downs from their cousins and also some friends, so when each season changes, I know I am prepared. However, underwear is something that isn't passed away as the rest of the clothes and they get shorter on these, eventually.

So, this brings me to my post today. A couple of weeks ago, I got both my kids a few new pieces - well, only one for him, and a new set for her, but more are coming for him, that's for sure. Anyway... I had bought my son three new boxers and one day, looking at them, I thought "I should do this, instead of buying more", and I did. I used those RTW boxers to draft the pattern from, making it a bit bigger to last a little longer. Then I grabbed a striped shirt from my refashion pile (I should refashion more often again, shouldn't I?), and in a blink of an eye, I had the boxers done. For the waistband I used leftovers from a pre-loved baby onesie I didn't even know I still had. I found it on a quest for red knit fabric, on my own stash.

This is the shirt I used. I will hunt any striped knit shirts at op-shops and markets, especially if they are red, or black. This shirt was cute as it was, but it didn't fit me, and the lettering on the front... just, no, no! I've put it to a much better use, I am sure.

All said about his piece, let's see her entire set now. This isn't anything new either when it comes to two of these pieces, I used the very same patterns I have used before for the top and the panties. The socks though, it's a different story. It is the first time I used the pattern, and might as well be the last, at least if it is to sew for my girl again, which is a shame, they fit her so well. The socks look beautiful, but she can't stand the seams on her toes, she just tried them on, never really wore them.

I bought this fabric from Paula @Serafina a few years ago, and been saving it since then. It was just half a meter and was right enough for the three pieces. I almost had no scraps left when I was done. I was so happy to used it to it's most and make somethin I really enjoyed seeing after all. It might be my favourite so far. Not only because of the fabric I used, but also because I payed a little bit more attention to detail in this one, and instead of following the tutorial for its finishings, I encased the seems and it looks much better like that, outside and inside.

Patterns Used:
#123 Girls Tank and Pants by Thread Faction
Sew It Forward Sock Pattern by Ellie & Mac - which is a FREE pattern guys!

As seen before on the blog...

When the time comes to make her some new panties, I might try to change the pattern, and go back to Serger Pepper's Big Girl's Briefs.

I made socks patching this one too, but I draft my own pattern back then.

Boys Boxer Briefs

Scroll down for english, please!

With all this Covid-19 story, and although I am still working out (tomorrow will be my last day before a two week holiday period), routines outside have ceased (except for work), so, I have more time at home. I also have my kids with me and there's a lot of time spent with and for them, of course, but I still managed to include some sewing in between.

For a while I've been wanting to make some new boxers for my kiddo, but got postponed, as pretty much all the rest, as you know. A few years ago, right when he started potting training, I made him three since it was hard to get his size at RTW stores. I never got to post them, so I guess I can go a little about them now. For those first ones I grabbed an existing pair and copied the pattern. To sew them, I used scraps from t-shirts I had previously refashioned in other projects. There's one missing in the photo, but it was the same as the stripped one.

This time around, I used the Boys Boxer Briefs (Shwin & Shwin), a free PDF pattern, with a single size (5/6). Before I actually sew them I thought they would be a bit too big for my little man, but he has used one of them already (his fave, the one with the astronaut), but they fit better than I could imagine. I think I might make a few more, as soon as I get a bit more time (all the sewing from the last few days has been dedicated to making face masks).

I used fabric from my stash. One was bought in a visit to Lisbon and the other one came from the scraps bin at a local shop. The first is thinner , the second heavier, I don't know if he'll like this one as much, even though they look more comfortable at the same time.

Next, I should be sewing some underwear for my princess and myself. Those are on my list forever as well. What have you been sewing?

Top 5 of 2017 |REFLECTIONS/GOALS|

Scoll down for english, please!

Before I started writting this post, I went back and read the similar ones from previous years (from 2013 to 2015), and it's funny how most of the decisions I made back then are quite similar to what I was going to write this year as well. Apparently it was not in 2016 that my sewing mojo went on holidays, but in the middle of the previous year. Ever since, I had ups and downs, like my mojo has suddenly turned bipolar. Oh well... I reflict on all that today, and I'll write down what I hope for 2018 as for my sewing and blog is concerned.

#1. No buying / Sew from my stash - This is one of my main goals for the next year. Back in 2013 I challenged myself to stop buying unless I really really really needed to. Ever since I tried to keep the habit but in a more relaxed way. Through 2017, I can't say I didn't behave, the fabrics pictured above were the only ones I bough (the ones with the "X" are the ones I used already), plus two other I bought to make my nephew a puff, and the lace for the bra but failed to picture, still, I know I bought a few of these on an impulse, no real need.

#2. More refashioning! - I haven't done it as much this year, I focused on down sizing my fabric stash so the refashioning pile got a bit to the back of my head. A few more pieces were added to my existing pile, I took a few away to donate because I didn't identify with them anymore, but I also more a few more recently, I found them for 1€ each. They are the ones on the above picture, I used two of them already. Oh! I am planning on bringing the "Refashion Month" back.

Just a few of the things I made and never got to share here.

#3. Post what I make! - I've been leaving so many things I made unblogged. I always think I can make it the next day, and then the next and they never make it to here. I tried to count them and I can tell you they are nearly asmany as the ones that did make it to the blog.

I finished this puff on the 24th of December, it was a christmas gift and I couldn't find a decent background for it. The cat didn't help either. It was the possible thing to get and I am not stressing over it.

#4. Keep it real! - What I want and what I can achieve. What I really am and not get carried away with others I follow do or say. This is largely related to the previous subject, sometimes I might skip posting while waiting for a better light to get photos taken, best thi and that, but let's keep it real, I'm not planning on getting any profit out of this blog, if the light is bad on a certain day, well lei it be and shoot that photo either way, other wise it might never get to the blog.

#5. Back to videos! - This might only matter to my portuguese readers as I only film in portuguese, but anyway, I am planning on getting back, not on a podcast format though. The idea has been bouncing in my head for about a year now, so I guess it's time to get something done\about it.
