Oliver +S "Little Things to Sew" Backpacks

Há uns anos atrás, comprei o livro Little Things to Sew da Olive + S, mas até há um par de meses nunca tinha costurado nenhuma das peças nele apresentadas. O livro está cheio de projectos giríssimos para fazer para os miúdos e por várias vezes planeei fazer vários deles. Alguns dão prendas bem giras também, mas... esses projectos que planeei foram sempre adiados em prol d'outros... a sina de quem costura!

A couple of years ago I bought this book Little Things to Sew by Oliver + S, but until a couple of months ago, I hadn't sewn one thing from it. The book is full of fun projects to sew for your kids and I planned on making a few of them a few times. Some of the projects make great gifts too, but... those projects were always postponed to give place to other... a sewer's life! 

No passado Natal, eu estava determinada a fazer quantas prendas à mão quantas aquelas que eu aguentasse e conseguisse fazer, e estas duas mochilas foram duas delas. Para as fazer usei o molde que quem no livro lá em cima.

This past Christmas I was so determined to give as many handmade gifts as my hands could make, and these two backpacks were two of the things I was able to make. For them, I finally used one of the patterns in the book above. 

Estas foram para duas meninas de 8 anos e sim, gostaram muito delas. O molde original é para uma mochila pinguim (a que podem ver na capa do livro lá em cima), mas eu optei pela versão mais simples. Adicionei uma pequena rendinha para astornar mais menininha. 

These were my gifts for two 8 year old girls and yes, they loved it. The original pattern, is for a penguin shaped backpack (the one you see in the cover of the book above), but I made the simplier version. Also added a little lace just to make it a tiny bit more girly. 

As mochilas são completamente forradas e dentro têm divisórias para os acessórios (que eu fiz a olho). O tecido dos mochos comprei-o numa mercado na Espanha, é bem grosso por isso aguenta-se muito bem, o que o torna perfeito para as mochilas. Ainda pensei adicionar alguma especie de enchimento para dar mais alguma estrutura mas depois desisti da ideia porque não se justificava. 

The backpacks are fully lined, and have space to accomodate your accessories too (I eyeballed it on mine). I got the owls fabric on a market in Spain, it is heavy and holds perfectly, that's why it was a great choice for the backpacks. I was thinking about using some filling of some sort for structure, but I then realised I wouldn't need it. 

O tecido do forro, comprei numa loja local, mas já não me recordo qual delas. Na verdade usei dois diferentes porque a meio caminho do corte percebi que não teria suficiente para ambas as mochilas e lá assumi os dois tecidos como design e não falha. hahaha. 

I bought the linning fabric locally, but I can't remember quite well where anymore. I actually used two different ones because I realised I wouldn't have enough of the red one for both pieces, and I had started cutting so, let's make it a design details not a mistake. ahahah 

Fiquei bem feliz de as ter feito e com tanta antecedência para o Natal - ando sempre num corre corre quando toca a acabar prendas a tempo. Tenho mais alguns projectos do livro que adorava fazer, como a "lancheira"... Também dá uma bela prenda tanto para crianças como para adultos. Talvez seja a minha próxima coisa a fazer do livro. Espero que não leve mais uns anos. Mesmo porque também está lá uma mala a tira colo que adorava fazer para a minha filha. 

I was pretty happy that I made these, and I made them quite before Christmas - I'm always in a hurry to finish gifts in time. I have more projects from the book that I'd love to make, like the bento box carrier... That makes a great gift even for an adult. That might be my next sew from the book. I hope it won't take me ages again though. There's also a messenger bag I'd love to make for my daughter. 

Fabric Activity Cube

Durante muitos anos maravilhei-me com os chamados "quiet  books", traduzido à letra seria um livro do sossego, com actividades para manter os pequeninos quietos. Adorava ver páginas e páginas deles. E desde a primeira vez que vi um que um projecto do género entrou para a minha lista... sim, aquela interminável lista de coisas que gostava de fazer um dia. 

I've been amazed by those quiet books forever, if you don't know them, they are activity to keep young kids, well, quiet. I loved to go through the different pages. And since I first saw one of these it made it to my neverending sewing wish list. 

Nunca fiz um até ano passado, quando consegui fazer algo semelhante para oferecer ao filho de uma amiga, e garanto-vos que apesar dos pequenos defeitos, foi das coisas que mais prazer me deu fazer até hoje. O que eu fiz não foi um livro mas sim um cubo de seis painéis de actividades que se podem unir por botões e elásticos uns aos outros. A criança pode brincar com ele aberto, ou com ele fechado. 

I've never made one until last year though, when I got to make a similar thing for a friend's son, and I can assure you that despite the tiny faults it might have, it was one of the things I enjoyed making the most so far. I made not a book but a cube though, out of six panels that can be put together through buttons and elastics. The child can play with it flat, or close it and give it shape. 

Optei por fazer painéis com actividades que permitissem treinar a destreza, e passo a explicar cada deles, da esquerda para a direita e de cima para baixo. No primeiro coloquei 3 fechos de correr, no segundo um fecho clip, para crianças mais pequenas este não é muito fácil de usar, mas ainda assim, pode sempre ir tentando. No terceiro coloquei os números de 1 a 5 em cima (numa espécie de bordado com missangas) e logo por baixo uma fita com a quantidade de bolinhas correta. Passando para a fila de baixo, uma árvore com maçãs (botões) para pôr e tirar, no meio, fechos de molas e por fim, os atacadores para aprenderem a colocar ou simplesmente a dar o laço. 

I chose to make panels that allowed the child to practise his skills, and I will explain each one. from left to right and from top to bottom. In the first one I sewed 3 zippers, in the second a clip closure, this one might be a bit hard to use for smaller children, but still they can always keep on trying. In the third one I added the numbers from 1 to 5 (with some kind of embroidered beads) and then ribbons with the correct among of balls for each one of them. In the bottom row, there's a tree with apples (buttons) to put on and off, in the middle, kam snaps and to finish, the laces so the child learns how to lace it and tight. 

Tirando o painel dos números, usei diferentes formas de fechos pois os miúdos são deparados com todos eles nas suas roupas, mochilas, etc. e o facto de conseguirem usá-los sozinhos faz deles muito mais autónomos e independentes, e eu adoro uma criança independente que se desenrasca sozinha (o meu filho mais novo, está mesmo a precisar duma coisa destas também). 

Apart from the numbers panel, I used different closure methods that kids find in their own clothes, bags, etc. and getting them on their own makes them so much autonomous and independent, and oh boy do I love an independent child (my youngest clearly could use one of these too). 

Para o cubo se manter direito quando está montado, arranjei uma caixinha em cartão praticamente do mesmo tamanho para colocar dentro e voilá, feito. Apesar deste cubo já ter um ano, lembrei-me de o partilhar agora porque é uma óptima sugestão de prenda para o Natal. Aliás, este ano quero fazer um em formato livro e ando a inspirar-me. Vamos esperar para ver como sai. 

For the cube to keep its shape when fully assembled, I grabbed a small card box basicly the same size as the cube and voilá, done. Although this one is from last year's, I thought I could share it anyway since it is such a good Christmas gift suggestion. Actually, I want to make another one, as a book this year and I have been getting inspired. Let's see how it'll turn out. 

Pijama Dorminhoco (Pajamas pattern)

Bem, bem, bem... mais de um mês sem publicar!!! Acho que isto nunca tinha acontecido por aqui. Este ano tem ido de mal a pior no que toca às costuras. Existem outras coisas a acontecer, é isso, e este ritmo pautado, tem sido necessário. Só espero que continue alguém ai desse lado para me ler, porque aqui estou eu hoje para partilhar algo convosco. Não só costurei, como reciclei! Yay! 

Well, well, well... no posting for over a month!!! I think this had never happen here before. This year has been going worse and worse as it goes, as far as sewing is concerned. There's other stuff happening, that's what it is, and this slow pace has been necessary. I only hope there is someone still in that side to read, because here I am to share something today. Not only did I sew, I also refashioned! Yay!

O feliz recetor do meu trabalho -hehe - foi o meu filhote, com o seu novo pijama. Ora bem, a Susana (Suco by Susana), não só vende peças confecionadas para criança, e tecidos lindos na sua loja online, como acaba de se estrear como designer independente. Este Pijama Dorminhoco é o seu primeiro molde. E sabem o que me deixa muito feliz a respeito deste molde? É que ele é o primeiro molde todo ele escrito em português (que eu tenha conhecimento), e eu tive o enorme prazer de o testar. 

The happy receptor of my work - hehe - was my little boy, with a new pajama. So, Susana (Suco by Susana), not only sells handmade kids clothing, and beutiful fabric in her shop, she has just started as an independent designer. This "Pijama Dorminhoco" (Sleepy Pajama) is her first pattern. And, do you know what makes me really happy about this pattern? This is the first pattern fully written in portuguese (at least that I know about), and it was a huge pleasure for me to be a part of the testers for this. 

Testei o tamanho 18M para o meu jeitoso. Usei uma camisola de homem que tinha comprado em segunda mão para o pai, mas que nunca foi dele porque era um pouco larga demais. Para as calças usei umas calças de pijama de homem, que me tinham dado numa pilha enorme de roupa. Infelizmente estas calças não tinham grande elasticidade, por isso o meu plano de usar este tecido para o colarinho e para os punhos da blusa tiveram que ficar de parte. Usei o tecido da camisola para todos os punhos. 

I tested size 18M for my handsome. I used a men's shirt I thrifted for the hubby, but it was a bit too lose and he never wore it. For the pants I used a men's pajama bottoms, that I was given a while ago, with another pile of clothes. Unfortunately those didn't have enough stretch, so my plan of using it for the neckband and the shirt's cuffs went down. I used the shirt's fabric for all the cuffs then. 

Não houve muito a acrescentar neste teste. As instruções/ilustrações estavam impecáveis e as peças do molde bateram todas certinhas à primeira. Assim que, malta do mundo, que fala português toca a espreitar o molde Pijama Dorminhoco, podem encontrá-lo com 15% de desconto, até dia 9 de Novembro.

There wasn't much to add to this while testing. The instructions/ilustrations were really good and all the pattern pieces matched at first time. So, people around the world, portuguese speakers, take a look at the Pijama Dorminhoco, pattern, it is 15% off until November the 9th. 

One Thimble Issue 12

It seems just like a couple a days since I had the chance to read One Thimble 11, and here we are with Issue 12, three months later. I was again, one of the lucky ones to try out a couple patterns ahead and get my eyes through the e-zine before release. It did not dissapoint, of course. 

Before anything else, I have to say I was touched, somehow, by the editor's welcome note, it goes about self belief. Sometimes we hear/read things just right when we need the most and I think that's one of those times for me. I am getting farther from believing in my dreams and goals, and I need someone/something to get me back on track. That welcome note, isn't long, but it's quite enough to get me thinking about it. Then the theme for this number was watercolour and as a fan of the technique I found myself daydreaming just by looking at the overall look of this issue's layout. 

When the time came to pick the patterns for this post, I chose the Calla Lily Crop Top by Jennuine Designs and the Melbourne Romper by Jilly Atlanta, from the 10 patterns included in this issue. You can get girls, boys and even a women patterns. There is also a quilted kite and a purse pattern. I started by making the romper. I signed for this one even before I saw it! I was really feeling like sewing a romper. When I checked the size chart, I realised my daughter was out of the size range already, and well, as cute as I find this for girls, I just don't use this kind of rompers on my boy. I went with size two though, I know a lot of little girls right now and might fit into this pretty soon. 

The polka dot fabric was refashioned from old women cullotes, it was just enough for the bottom of the romper. Then I searched in my scraps, and I found this gorgeous little piece of flowerly fabric. It was a gift from a reader, a very nice lady that sent me so many scraps and bigger pieces of fabric, in exchange of nothing. How nice was it from her?! 

Anyway, this fabric was perfect to match the polka dots and I was so grateful that I had it. I used lining fabric for the inside, which was also in my stash for years (I wanted to keep it fresh and light, since both other fabrics are quite light and slippery!!!). My bib turned out a bit smaller than the actual pattern piece because of the slippery of the fabric, I had to cut about 1/2" to make it even as it didn't as I cut. 

I tried it on my daughter! I know, she's 3 sizes bigger than this now and it looks pretty tight on her, but I just couldn't share just a plain flat picture of the romper, it would not make it justice! The poor girl complained it was pulling too much at her waist but still smiled and posed for this crazy momma. 

After finishing the romper, I started the crop top, which was my very first choice. I have a thing for crop tops, and since I don't wear them unless I have a top underneath these days, I turn into them for my G. I liked the one I made using Thread Faction's so much, that my instant choice this time, was the Calla Lily crop top, a woven meant pattern to fill a gap in my collection. I made my daughter a size 5 and it fits like a glove. 

The girl loved it. I made the plain bodice option, you can also do gatherer or pleated at the shoulders and I used another fabric from the many my nice reader sent me. It's so soft and light, Perfect for the pattern which is suppoused to be lined, but I skipped that part (Jen actually included tips for this if you need them, though the step by step instructions refer to the linning option). I made my own bias out of a piece of pink satin scrap and since it was much heavier than the main fabric it looks kinda weird, but not at all bad. 

For the buttons on the back, I used some my friend Maria has sent me as a gift almost two years ago (the supplies she sent me seem to last forever!!!). I love to use the supplies I get from other people, that's my way to show some appreciation. Besides, those things look good, right? It'd be a shame for them to be left in the stash for too long. 

Why do I recommend One Thimble? Well, since I read last issue I became an instant fan. Most  hold in hands magazines I get to read, turn out a bit dissapointing as I find like one or two interesting articles, projects or patterns, but that does not happen with One Thimble. Most articles are quite interesting, the ones that particularly caught my attention this time were the ones about making fabric from scraps, tips for sewing with knits and tips for leather too. The handmade business articles are always pretty much helpful and inspiring. I haven't read all the magazine yet, it is so complete, has so many pages that it has been impossible for me to read through them all, but they are quite promissing and I can't wait to find the time to do so. I am also very excited to try some of the other patterns available, as Liz's pattern #111, you guys know I love her patterns, right? I don't need to mention that anymore! Also, the Cozumel Shirt by Winter Wear Designs is a serious candidate to my son's next piece. Para quem mora nos Estados Unidos (pelo menos), o dia do pai está quase a chegar, aqui já sabemos que foi em Março, mas qualquer desculpa é boa para celebrar a parentalidade. E por isso, usei o os moldes Parker’s Vintage Fit T-Shirt for Children & Men, homem e criança (EYMM), e o meu primeiro pensamento foi fazer uma t-shirt para os meus filhos (menina e menino), mas depois olhando para trás, já fiz vários looks mãe e filha, por isso, reconsiderei e acheique também seria divertido fazer um look só pai e filho, e cheguei até isto. 

Father's Day is around the corner for US residents, at least. It already took place in March in my corner of the world, but I feel like any excuse is a good one when it comes to celebrate parentwood. And so I used the Parker’s Vintage Fit T-Shirt for Children & Men pattern bundle (EYMM) and my first thought was to match daddy and both kids (girl and boy), but then I looked back in time, I have made a few mommy and me looks in the past, with the girl. I thought it could be fun to make something just for the boys too, and here's what we got. 

Lancem-me lá uns fogos de artificio, faxavôre! Depois de tantos anos a dizer que queria e fazia, lá costurei qualquer coisa para o namorido (de roupa, isto é). Hurra!!! A motivação veio mesmo de fazer parte deste tour da EYMM Patterns, com o tema Papá & Eu. Por isso, sim, hoje fico feliz.

Someone throw some firework for me please! After so many years meaning to, I finally sewed something (on the garment department, it is) for the hubby. Hurray!!! And my motto was being on the Daddy & Me tour for EYMM Patterns. So, yes, I am happy today. 

Encomendei o meu tecido da Sweet Mercerie porque o esquesitinho do meu marido não gosta de nenhum dos tecidos que eu já tinha em casa. Comprei então esta malha jersey em azulão, e outra em bege, muito parecidas. Gosto muito de ver o meu V. (namorido) de azul, destaca com o cabelo muito preto e olhos castanhos muito escuros, por isso usei o azul como tecido principal da t-shirt dele, e usei um retalho do bege para o bolso na frente. Para o meu S. (filho) usei o bege como principal e o azul para o detalhe do bolso.

I ordered some fabric from The Sweet Mercerie, because my picky husband didn't like any of the fabric I had in my stash. So, I purchased an electric blue slub jersey and a beige with black speckled jersey fabrics. I really like to see V. (hubby) wearing blue, it stands out with his pretty black hair and dark brown eyes, so the blue was used as main fabric for his t-shirt, and I used a scrap from the beige fabric for the front pocket. For S. (son) I used the beige as main fabric and the blue for the pocket detail. 

Ambos os moldes, de homem e criança, foram bem fáceis montar, cortar e rápidos de costurar. Fiz o do miúdo, depois de tudo cortado, em menos de meia hora. Ambos vêm com duas opções de gola. Escolhi a gola em V porque, se bem me lembro, era algo que nunca tinha feito antes. A primeira foi a do V. e não correu assim tão bem, não ficou centrada a 100%. Acredito que a peça da gola deveria ser um pouco mais longa (ou então meu tecido nãp tinha os 60% recomendado, é verdade que como é bastante elástico eu nem fui confirmar), na minha opinião tive de esticar demasiado a gola. O mesmo não aconteceu com a versão mais pequena. Correu tudo perfeitamente. 

Patterns, both men and children's were easy to assemble, cut and pretty quick to sew. I made the kid's one in less than half an hour after I had everything cut. Both come with two collar options. I chose the V-neck option, which if I can remember well, I hadn't done ever before. The first was the hubby's and it is not 100% centered in the front. I think the collar piece should be a little longer (or my fabric didn't have the 60% stretch recommended in the pattern - mine is pretty stretchy so I didn't even check), I had to stretch the fabric way too much in my opinion. I didn't have the same issue with the boy's version. Everything went smoothly and it looks perfect. 

Já com os bolsos foi ao contrário. O do V. ficou muito melhor. Comecei por costurar o do S. com um ponto zigue zague, mas a máquina começou a repuxar o tecido e quando tentei descoser para voltar a coser, não consegui porque o tecido é fino e a tendência era rasgar.
Assim que acabei por tentar costurar o resto do bolso o melhor possível, e para o bolso do pai já usei um ponto direito. A minha sobrinha estava cá em casa quando terminei as duas t-shirts, e quando lhes mostrei a todos as peças ao acabar, a miúda de 8 anos ficou toda entusiasmada e até eufórica quando percebeu que tinha trocado os tecidos nos bolsos. Adorou! Também fiquei muito agradada. Assenta-lhes a ambos na perfeição.

The oposite happened with the pockets though. Hubby's look much better, I started by sewing the boy's with a zig zag stitch, but it started pulling the fabric which is so thick that it made it impossible to unpick to sew again. So I just tried to do it as best as I could and switched to a straight stitch when attaching the hubby's pocket. My niece was staying over when I finished the pieces and showed them to my family. She's 8 years old and was all excited, noticing the matching switched pockets. She loved it! I was very pleased too. The fit on both of them is pretty good and spot on. 

As opções para o comprimento das mangas são também, mas como temos o verão mesmo ai, optei por fazer as mangas curtas, claro. Cheira-me que vou usar este molde mais vezes. Se ao menos o dia tivesse mais horas.

There's also two options for the sleeves lenght, and because Summer is almost here, I went with the short ones, of course. I see more of these in our future. If only the day lasted a few more hours.

Lembram-se das Walker Jeans que testei e mostrei o mês passado? Pois bem, na altura, o molde era para ter incluído uma versão skinny mas que foi colocada de parte pela designer. E ainda bem que ela o fez e se concentrou num molde à parte para essa versão porque acabou por ficar excelente. Foi assim que nasceu, e acaba de ser lançado pela Momma Quail Patterns, o novo molde, Billie Jeans.

Do you remember the Walker Jeans I tested and shared about a month ago? Well, back then, the pattern was initially going to contain a skinny option too, but it was put aside by the designer during the test. And that's great that she did so, and concentrated in making a whole new pattern for this option, because it turned out excellent. That's how the new Billie Jeans pattern were born and just released by Momma Quail Patterns. 

Desta vez juntei-me ao teste já numa fase adiantada, por isso, as peças que fiz, já foi com o molde melhorado. Hoje mostro apenas um par, mas na verdade fiz dois, um para cada um dos meus miúdos. Costurei-os ao mesmo tempo para fazer render o tempo em que apanho os miúdos a dormir. Para este par, reciclei umas skinnies de mulher. Consegui aproveitar ao máximo as calças originais e só cortei outros retalhos para o saco dos bolsos e para a parte de dentro da banda da cintura, um amarelo torrado/mostarda - cada vez mais apaixonada por esta cor, precisamente igual ao de uma blusa que ele tem (e que veste nas fotos). Felizmente tinha também molas KAM quase na mesma cor, são um pouco mais claras mas mal se nota, certo? 

This time around, I joined the test when it was well advanced already, and that's why my pieces were made with one improved pattern already. Today I am only sharing one pair, but I have actually made two, one for each of my kids. I sewed them at the same time for good time managements as the kids were sleeping. For this pair I refashioned a women's skinny jeans. I was able to use the most of the original pants and only needed other scraps for the pocket bags and for the waistband lining, for which I used a dark yellow/mustard - more and more in love with this color, exactly like the shirt he is wearing in this photos. Luckily enough, I had KAM snaps in the same color, or close, they are a little lighter, but you can barely tell, right?

Fiz o tamanho 18M para o S., das duas opções de corte (skinny e slim - direitas), escolhi as skinny, e dentro das várias alturas, optei pelo comprimento até ao tornozelo. Ficaram um bocadito longas nele, já é normal e eu já sabia que assim seria, mas optei por não ajustar a altura, o tecido tem boa elasticidade e ele tem crescido muito ultimamente, por isso mantive assim, ficam com uma altura dita normal, na esperança de servirem por mais tempo. Em comparação com o molde Walker Jeans, gosto mais da forma como estas assentam, apesar de também adorar as anteriores. O que acham?

I made size 18M for S., from the two fit options (skinny and slim) I went for the skinny one, and chose ankle lenght out of several onoes to pick from. They are slightly long for him, it's normal, I knew that would happen, but I didn't care to shorten the lenght because the fabric has a good stretch, and he's been growing fast lately, so I kept them like this, with a regular lenght, hoping they will last longer. Comparing to the Walker Jeans, I like this one's fit better, although I really like those too. What do you think?

Walker Jeans by Momma Quail Patterns

Na passada segunda feira, a Momma Quail Patterns, lançou o seu último molde, Walker Jeans, que eu tive o prazer de testar... Sim, sim, quero reduzir os testes aos moldes e tal e coiso, mas a verdade é que até me tenho portado bem. Mas o que hei-de eu fazer? Sempre que vejo os tester calls da Amy, lá vou eu, não lhes consigo virar costas. E desta vez, foi o desenho destas calças, na opção que acabei por fazer que me chamou a atenção. O molde vem com duas opção de corte, a primeira a calça direita e a segunda ligeiramente afunilada nos joelhos, e depois novamente mais larga em baixo, tipo boca de sino, mas pouco acentuado. Claro que há também a opção de fazer calções e ainda incluí linhas de corte para ajustar o comprimento - já que é mais para o longo, dando espaço para os períodos de crescimento veloz a que os nossos pequenos estão sujeitos. No caso do meu pequenino, que é curto de perna, os moldes da Amy são mesmo longos, mas de resto assentam na perfeição. Este molde, como a maioria dos moldes desta designer, é mais direcionado para os meninos, embora também inclua nas instruções, a versão menina para a aplicação do fecho e braguilha. Começa no tamanho 12M e vai até ao tamanho 14. O meu miúdo ficou com um ar mesmo cool. Infelizmente estava demasiado frio e não lhe tirei o casaco, mas por baixo vestia esta camisola que lhe fiz no ano passado (e sim, ainda serve). Até o pai estava super orgulhoso, uma vez que ambas as peças, foram recicladas e feitas a partir de roupas do pai. O miúdo também parece ter aprovado as calças novas, correu, pulou, saltou, rebolou na areia, trepou e nunca se queixou.

Last monday, Momma Quail Patterns had released her lattest pattern, the Walker Jeans... Yes, yes, I want to reduce the number of pattern tests and all that, but the truth's that I've been behaving quite well. What I can do though? Everytime I come across one of Amy's tests, there I go, I just can't turn my back to it. This time, I was drawn by the bootleg option of these jeans. The pattern comes with two options, the first one is a straight leg and then the bootleg, there's also the possibility of making shorts versions too, including cutting lines to adjust height - the pattern height is a bit long, adding room to grow, good for our always growing fast kids. In the case of my little one, Amy's patterns are often too long because he's quite short legged, but other than that, the pattern fits perfectly elsewhere. This pattern, as most patterns from the designer, are meant for boys, even though, this includes girl fly and zipper directions/instructions. It starts at 12M size and goes up to size14. My little boy looks really cool in his jeans. Unfortunately it was too cold and I didn't take his hoodie off for the photos, but he was wearing this shirt I made him last year (and yes, still fits). Even dad was feeling all proud, since both pieces I made, were refashioned from his own clothes. The boy seemed to approved his new jeans as well, he ran, jumped, rolled in the sand, climbed and never complained.

Começo a achar que já deixei para trás, demasiadas peças terminadas por publicar. Gostava de ir mostrando todas, mesmo que tenham sido feitas já há algum tempo, mas a verdade é que a vontade de escrever, editar fotos, publicar, tem sido mesmo muito fraca. Hoje obriguei-me a escolher um desses projetos que foram ficando para trás, e a escolha recaiu sobre um par de calças que testei há cerca de dois meses, para a Momma Quail Patterns, e que cheguei a mostrar no 3º episódio do podcast (ver aqui). O molde das mesmas é o Spencer Slacks, e passou rapidamente para a minha lista de preferidos. Para este par, reciclei umas calças de mulher. Não sei quantos anos tinham mas eram muitos. Vieram cá parar numa pilha enorme que recebi de uma prima da minha mãe há quase dois anos atrás. E desculpem-me, mas esqueci-me de tirar foto do antes, antes de começar a cortar. Para os detalhes, usei um retalho de um tecido com pequenas estrelas que a querida Ana Sofia me ofereceu. 

I start to believe I have left behind, not posted way too many finished pieces by now. I'd love to show them all, even if they were made such long time ago, but truth is I have no mood to write, edit photos or post anything. I forced myself to do so today though, and my choice was a pair of pants I tested almost two months ago, for Momma Quail Patterns, which I actually showed in my podcast thrid episode (here). The pattern is the Spencer Slacks, and it quickly went into my faves list. For this particular pair, I refashion a women's pair of pants. I don't know how old they are, but they are old. They were donated to me, with a huge pile of other clothes, and they came from my mom's cousin about two years ago. And forgive me, I forgot to take a before picture, before I started cutting into it. For the details I used a scrap from a little stars patterned fabric, that dear Ana Sofia sent me. 

Como já disse, gostei tanto do molde que entrou logo nos preferidos, este par que vos mostro é o único que fiz durante os testes e ficaram perfeitos no S. A única coisa que não assenta que nem uma luva nele, é a altura, as pernas ficaram super longas para o meu rapazito, mas ele tem perna curta, acontece com qualquer molde. 

As I said before, I liked this pattern so much, it made it straight to my faves, and even though this is the onely pair I made while testing, they were fit perfect on S. The only thing that isn't so good on him is the lenght, they are super long on him, but he's short anyway, this happens with every pattern. 

Mas eu fiquei com esperança de um dia, as calças voltarem a servir-lhe quando for maior e já não usar fraldas, por isso em vez de simplesmente cortar na altura para que lhe ficassem bem, o que fiz foi uma bainha com vírola para poder mais tarde descoser, voltando a dar mais comprimento. Acho que o produto final, acabou por ser umas calças impecáveis, perfeitas para momentos em que se exige uma peça mais clássica, mas que serve perfeitamente para o dia a dia. Eu adoro ver os miúdos de xadrez (tanto que há uns dias acabei outras, com outro molde, com mais ou menos o mesmo padrão), e adorei ver o meu mini com estas vestidas.

I was hoping this would probably fit again later, when he's bigger and diaper free, so instead of just cutting them to fit now, I made a folded hem instead, so I could unpick the stitches later, making them longer once again. I think the final piece was just great, perfect for a fancier occasion, but suitable for a daily basis too. I love to see kids in plaid (so much I just finished a couple of days ago, another pair, from another pattern, which fabric pattern is pretty similar), and I loved to see my mini wearing these. 

O molde é suposto ter um corte mais delgado/justo, mas isso não acontece tanto nos números mais pequenos devido à folga deixada para as fraldas. O que gostava mesmo de referir são os detalhes que eu adorei. As calças têm bolsos nas laterais e bolsos embutidos na parte de trás, funcionais que fecham com botão. Ainda atrás, apresenta um pequeno e interessante corte na cintura. Para apertar na cintura, têm fivelas (no meu caso plásticas pois não encontrei outras na altura (agora já tenho, mas ainda não me dignei a mudar). À frente, fecham com fecho, botão e ainda um gancho interior (opcional). Na frente, tem também duas pequenas pinças, que dão um diferente à peça, elegante e profissional. 

The pattern is supposed to be a slim fit one, but it's not so much in the smaller sizes, due to diaper ease. What I'd really like to mention, are the details that make me love these. The pants have inseam pockets and welted buttoned pockets on the back. Also in the back, there's an interesting slight notch on the waist. To adjust in the waist, there's tabs and buckles (mine were plastic ones because I couldn't find any other at the time, I have new ones now but haven't been around to switch them up). In the front they close with a zipper, a button and even a hook-and-eye closure (optional). In the front there's also two small pleats, that give this piece and elegant and professional look. 

Aqui vos deixo, com a sugestão deste molde que adorei, que abrange desde o tamanho 12 meses até aos 14 anos, e que tenho a certeza que vou fazer novamente num futuro. 

And now I leave you, with the suggestion of a pattern that I loved, ranging from 12 months size to 14 years, and that I am absolutely sure I will be using again in the future.
