Thread Faction #123 Pattern Tour

I am joining Liz from Thread Faction for her Sewing Knit Basics pattern tour. Today I am sharing my take on her new pattern #123 Girls Tank and Pants.

The Tank n Pants Set was a winner in our house. I asked my daughter if I could try it on hr when I finished and she immediately asked me if she could sleep in it (it was about bed time) and of course I said yes. She loves these sets and I love to sew them for her. I see a few more in a near future coming out of my sewing machine.

So. My kiddo's measurements put her on a straight 7 and I am happy with it although I think the bottom piece was a bit baggy on her. It allows to grow though which is something I always appreciate on a me made anyway. And, it is still comfortable she says, so all good here.

The set is made of two pieces, top and knickers, it comes in sizes 2-10, has an optional gusset - which I did by the way - and it is a begginer's friendly pattern, just, so you know. It is another quick and easy sew, just what I need to get back into sewing.

The main fabric from the top was given to me by my friend Patrícia, when she downsized her stash. The green one I used from the bottom of some launge pants my sister bought for me. They were new but she got it for me, not to wear as she knows I wouldn't wear anything with this lettuce colour on, but because it was a lot of knit for a little amount of money and I could refashion them. I love my sister (she got me two of these).

Apparently this is perfect to sleep in... except she was pretending to do so in my bed, instead of going to her own. Anyway, if you liked it and you got the pattern or are planning on it, make sure to follow Liz's Thread Faction Sewn Series on youtube, here's her first episode for you.

Bespoke Briefs blog tour

Scroll down for english, please!

Olá a todos!! OMD!

Hello everyone!! OMG! I can't believe it's been so long since I last posted on the blog. I really haven't been in the mood to sew, and plus I have been busy packing and slowly moving from one house to the other.

Anyway. I am back, and I am here today to be part of the Bespoke Briefs pattern tour. I am always a last minute do-er, and that's why I finished mine the day before my post date... Which is good, because this is a quick project and I wiped up two new knickers to be in love with, in a blink of an eye.

These knickers pattern is a design from Thread Faction (as you all know by now, I love it), and I can't believe how well they fit me. As I already mention I made two of these. In one I used decorative elastic to finish it, and I used bands on the second. I am now finding it hard to choose a fave from both of them.

I used scraps I had in my stash from previous projects. I have a matching shirt for the stipped fabric knickers, and my daughter got a shirt with that same fabric more recently. As for the butterflies one, it is also my daughter that has a shirt in the same fabric.

And now, if you haven't yet, go check out all the other versions posted in the last couple of days.

GYCT Designs Spring Dress Tour |Rival Raglan|

Scroll down for english, please!

Hoje publico a última.

As I was editing photos for this post, I was also going through older photos of my daughter and noticed just how many pieces I've sewn with the GYCT Designs patterns. Today I am posting about the latest. Chealsea is hosting a Spring Dress Tour (click here to know more about it) and I joined the fun. I know, I know, I made a long sleeve dress for a Spring Tour, but the thing is, for my experience, spring has been rather cold around here, so I needed a bit more coverage for my daughter, besides, that striped fabric needed to be used to the fullest, right?

There's a lot I loved about this dress. First of all, I love the pattern's different versions. You can choose from 3 lenght sleeves and also from top, tunic or dress lenght. It is a unisex pattern if you use it for the top, so it is suitable for boys too. My own options are pretty clear, right? I did the dress lenght with long sleeves in size 6 for my daughter. It fits her just right, even in the sleeves, which sometimes turn too long for her if I don't fix the original patterns. .

Second thing about this dress that I just love is the fabric I used for the top portion. It was a gift from my friend Sara and I've been saving it ever since, I needed to find the right project for this and the dress just seemed perfect. The black fabric from the bottom, was refashioned from one of the hubby's shirts. In the photos it looks much faded (the color), but it works for me either way.

Dêem-me as vossas opiniões a respeito.

Working with stripes can get tricky, takes time and patience but when you go for it, it's so worth it. Oh look at those perfectly matched seams in the side seams. I didn't bother to match them on the shoulders though. Still not sure if I should have or not. Opinions are welcomed, please.

Another thing I love about it is the appliqué on the front. I wanted my girl's dress to be super unique and tried to figure out a way to do so. A while ago we had (together) drawn another dress where I added "super star" to it, and she liked it so much she made me promise I'd add it to one of her clothes. My dear, your wish is an order, and it's done. To do it, I free hand drawn the letters and the star on tracing paper, then cut it on fabric and applied with double face interfacing so I can iron it on to the dress. I then topstitched and it took me longer than sewing the actual dress.

Valeu a pena!

It payed! She loved her new dress and wanted to wear it two days in a raw... she didn't make it to three because she stained it before that and it had to be put to wash.

Now go check the other bloggers for some much more Spring dresses (I find it hard to think spring with this bad weather we're been having - for non locals: we've been having lost of heavy rain and wind, and had two small tornados in a week. Until the end of this week another one is expected - I've never seen something like that around here in my entire life).

Back To School Blog Tour

Scroll down for english, please.

Faço parte do Back to School (Regresso às aulas) blog tour organizado por Lulu & Celeste and Sprouting Jube Jube Productions - estas meninas são imparáveis. A sério, mostrem-lhes algum amor.

I can't believe I can finally show you all the things I've been sewing for the last few weeks. I have been keeping it a secret but was here dying to tell you all about it. I am taking part of the Back to School Tour hosted by Lulu & Celeste and Sprouting Jube Jube Productions - seriously, these ladies are unstopable. This tour was sponsored by a group of wonderful sponsors, a few of them were knew to me, but I had sewn with patterns from most. Seriously, show some love to our sponsors

I sewed up a total of 9 pieces for this tour. My first idea was to sew my girl a little capsule wardrobe, with a few coordinating pieces. I did make most of the clothes for her, but I couldn't get them to be that coordinating since I am trying to use what I already have - I have moving plans and need to downsize on my stash, so doing my best to avoid buying more is mandatory right now. I won't go into big details about any of the pieces today, you'll have to come back the next few days to read more about each one of them. I decided to it so, because there are too many pieces for one post. Breaking it into a few different ones turns it a little less boring, I guess.

As I was saying, I had a hard time keeping all the pieces coordinating to each other. I also thought it was unfair to sew only for her, although deep down I know he doesn't need as many new clothes as she does... yes, we still have lots of hand-me-downs for him, but not so much for her anymore. I planed 3 pieces for him, but unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the 3rd for this post. I will try to show you all in the same order I made them. The first one was a pyjamas for my boy.

And guess what? I just realised that the picture above is wrong, I don't have 2 refashion pieces, I do have 3... oh this little head of mine!
Anyway... The 10th piece which I was not able to finish in time for today, was the Marc Shirt, a pattern by Filles à Maman that I once made for my boy. Back then it became one of our favorites, I thought it was about time to give it a try again. Pretty soon, I guess.

Aproveitem!

Just look at how many people are taking part on this tour? So much inspiration for you, so don't miss anyone, there are pretty cool things out there. Enjoy!

One Thimble Issue 16 tour

It is time for One Thimble again. The 16th issue of the e-zine is already available in HERE and today I am bringing a bit of what's inside for you. I have sewn two patterns, both from Ainslee Fox Boutique Patterns, and they are the Hally Casual Dress and the Triton Singlet as you can see in the picture below.

Both patterns are meant to be a loose fit, and I liked that idea. My daughter fell between two sizes, 5 and 6 on the dress, and I went for the biggest as usual, clearly I should have gone a size down for a perfect fit, it looks a bit too loose on her but, eventually it will last longer.

The detail on the top front bodice was what caught my attention. We didn't realise while taking these photos, and her hair is covering it in most, but I just loved that different touch. The dress has two different construction options and I took the hard road, but it was worth it (don't worry if it scared you, the second option is way easier).

I also added a different touch by applying this laced piping I had used in another dress for her, you can see it in detail here, I can't tell where or when I bought it but I still have quite a lot of it. The fabric used for this dress was purchased from The Sweet Mercerie, and it's quite soft and light. The skirt os gathered on the front and back but the side panels aren´t.

As for the Triton tank, the girl liked it just a little better than the dress. The fabric was also purchased from the same shop and I have been always uncertaint of what to do with it. It has butterflies all over so I figured she would like it. I recycled a piece of a hubby's t-shirt for the collar.

You might recognise her shorts. I made them a while ago for her cousin, they are a size 8 but already fitting her. It was passed from my nephew to his sister and now for my daughter. Hopefully it will last savely until my boy fits them too.

It really is not much to say about this top. It's easy to sew, just three pieces to cut, pattern pieces are a brise to put together, and it is perfect for an active kid to play around in the park on a very hot summer day just like mine did. She was pretty comfortable with it.

There's a chance for you to get a free copy of the OT16 issue by entering the current giveaway...

Swimwear Blog Tour

Today I am taking part of the swimwear blog tour, and the best part of it is that I made something for my husband. What? Yes! Can you spot it on today's posters collage below?!

Let me tell you more about it.
First things first, I used the Long Beach Board Shorts from Peek-a-Boo pattern shop. Although I follow Amy since the very start I have never used any of her patterns! What? Well yeah, that's true. It just never happened. I jumped at the change of trying one of them right now, AND sewing for my husband at the same time.

It is official now. I am stepping away from tours and tests for now. I might pop in every now and then, but most of all, I want to find the joy in sewing away, which I lost. Anyway... I found it quite hard to find swimwear fabric around here, at least one my husband and I would like, so of course I did what I always do, dig into my refashion pile.

I found two pairs of shorts from my husband needing a new life, but I also found a damaged jacket from a cousin. I used this lastest piece and one of the shorts (red red ones) to recycle into new shorts. At first I wasn't really convinced with the mix, but once I was done, it grew on me. I then showed them to their owner and he liked it, which was kind of a relief. I so want to sew more for him.

I followed the instructions of the pattern, but did mine a bit shorter because I was refashioning and the red shorts I used weren't as long as this one. I reused the lining, but did a new pocket and a new waistband out of the jacket. My favourite feature is the eyelets and cord at the waistband.

Check out what others did and find some swimwear inspiration...
