DG Pattern Blog Tour

Hoje faço parte de um tour, patrocinado pelos moldes DG Patterns, no site encontram uma grande variedade de moldes, modernos e com um design apelativo. Para este tour escolhi dois moldes, mas como podem ver, só tenho um a apresentar. Digamos que poderia ter corrido melhor! Acabei por perder demasiado tempo a fazer uma peça que se previa ser bastante rápida e pequenos detalhes desmotivaram-me a continuar com a segunda peça, que era aquela que eu mais queria ter feito. 

I am part of a pattern tour today, which is sponsored by DG Patterns, you can find a bunch of modern and appealing patterns on their site. For the tour I picked two, but as you can see for yourselves, I only have one of them to blog about. Let's say things could have been better! I ended up wasting too much time on a piece that should have been nothing but a quick sew, but a lot of small details I just couldn't ignore, unmotivated me to go on with the second one, which was also the one I was previously more excited about to start. 

O molde que efetivamente fiz foi o vestido Loose Fit Raglan. Alterei a altura, tirando uns bons centimetros, porque afinal sou baixinha e não queria que o vestido me ficasse abaixo dos joelhos. Fiquei satisfeita com a altura com que acabou. O tecido que escolhi é em malha, e por mais maravilhoso e lindo que o ache, creio ter pouca elasticidade para a peça em si. Fica um pouco apertado, mas é como vos digo, creio ser mesmo pelo tecido. 

The pattern I got to finish was the Loose Fit Raglan Dress. I altered the height, taking a few centimeters off, because I am short after all and I didn't want my dress sitting lower than my knees. I was happy with the height I got. The fabric I picked is a knit but as beautiful and wonderful as I think it is, it's not as stretchy as it should. It got too tight, but as I say to you, I really think this is due to the fabric. 

Ao alterar a altura não tive em consideração o posicionamento dos bolsos, e acabaram um pouco acima do (para mim) desejado, porém estão ali num limite que ainda tolero, mas é algo ao que devo prestar atenção se por acaso voltar a costurar este molde. 

When altering the height, I didn't take into consideration the pockets positioning and I think they are a bit too high (for me), though they're just there in the acceptable limit, so it really is something I should pay attention to if I get to sew this pattern again. 

Para além de ter mexido na altura do vestido em si, também encurtei em cerca de 2,5 cm e  quando acabei o vestido e o experimentei arrependi-me, é que normalmente as mangas de todos os moldes costumam ficar-me demasiado longas, e eu achando que o mesmo aconteceria aqui, fui logo encurtando as ditas. Nas fotos nota-se bem a diferença entre as mangas do vestido e da blusa que sobrepus para o look. Gosto de ver assim. 

Besides changing the heigth of the dress, I also took about 1 inch off the sleeves, and I regreted it after finishing and trying the dress on. Usually I get too long sleeves in all patterns, so believing this would happen again I just went ahead and cut the extra inch off, only it wasn't necessary this time. In the photos you can see the difference in lenght from the dress sleeves and the shirt I layered with it. I like it though. 

O corte do vestido é largo na parte de cima e justinho na parte inferior, o que para mim não é muito favorecedor, já que depois dos filhos fiquei com uma barriguinha nada simpática que geralmente até consigo disfarçar, mas que vi demasiado evidenciada pelo vestido. No entanto gostei dele e não vai ser isso que me vai impedir de o vestir. 

The fit of the dress is loose on top and tight on the bottom, which isn't too flattering on my body, once I had kids I got an annoying belly I usually can hide well, but this design brings it out as crazy. Even though, you can be sure I will be wearing it again, that's just a detail and because I actually like the dress, it won't stop me. 

E afinal, o que correu menos bem? Muita coisa, deparei-me com uma série de erros no molde, faltavam indicações, páginas a imprimir incorretamente, erros ortográficos... tive o cuidado de olhar para o molde com olhos clínicos e reportar tudo o que encontrei à designer, para que possa melhorar o seu produto e espero que tenha tido todas essas notas em consideração. Em relação à peça em si, não me posso queixar, mas os pequenos detalhes também contam muito na nossa escolha e não quis deixar de vos alertar para este ponto caso adquiram algum dos moldes. O segundo molde que recebi e que ainda está por terminar foi o Santiago Jacket, e também neste encontrei vários erros, mas não desisti de o terminar, apenas o farei mais tarde, e terei todo o gosto em partilhar o resultado convosco. 

So, what went less well? A lot, I found a lot of mistakes, indications/marks were missing, typos, printing issues... I carefully took notes from everything I found, sent it all to the designer so she can improve it and hopefully she will take it all into consideration. As for the pattern piece itself, I have nothing to say, still all the other details are important when choosing a pattern and I didn't want to let it pass here neither, in case you buy any of the patterns. The second pattern I got and is still waiting to be done, is the Santiago Jacket, and I also found a few issues, but I did not give up on it completly, I just will finish later, and then I'll be happy to share my thoughts with you all.

EYMM Off the shoulder Tour

Sinto que passei o ano a queixar-me da falta de motivação que andei a sentir durante tanto tempo. No entanto - e apesar dos posts no blog não acompanharem, noto como a minha vontade de costurar tem sido maior que a vontade de procrastinar qualquer criação. Uma das últimas coisas que costurei e que vos venho mostrar hoje é este vestido. O molde é o Off the Shoulder Dress and Peplum Top da EYMM. 

I feel like I've spent the year complaining of lake of sewing motivation. However - and although the posts on the blog aren't mirroing it, I see like my will to sew has been bigger than my procrastination skills. One of the latest things I sewed is thid dress I am sharing today. It is the Off the Shoulder Dress and Peplum Top by EYMM. 

Apesar de só precisar do meu número, gosto que os moldes EYMM tenham tantos números à escolha, vão do XS ao 5X, no meu caso, usei o mais pequeno claro. As opções são muitas, temos o peplum que é mais curto, tipo túnica, e no vestido existem duas alturas à escolha, pelo joelho ou abaixo do joelho. Como sou baixa tirei uns bons centímetros do meu e deixei a bainha por fazer, intencionalmente. A linha da cintura também pode ser personalizada por existirem duas opções diferentes no molde. 

Even though I only need my size, of course, I like that EYMM's patterns come in such a good size range, they go from XS to 5X, in my case I did the smaller one. The options are many, we have the peplum lenght and two dress lenghts, above the knee and below knee. I did the shortest and cut a few more centimeter off because I am short, I also left the raw edge intentionally. The waist line can also be personalized, you have two lenghts to do so.

A saia podia ser circular ou franzida na cintura, e eu que sou como as miúdas pequeninas e gosto de ver um vestido com roda, escolhi a primeira opção. Entre as mangas compridas ou a 3/4, escolhi novamente a primeira opção. Já que o vestido tem esta gola tão grande não me fazia sentido fazer as mangas a 3/4, tão quentinha em cima e depois os braços de fora? Nahhh, não é para mim. Aproveito para vos falar da gola, que se mantem sempre bonitinha com as pregas costuradas nos lados. 

There's two options for the skirt, gathered and circle. I went with the latest because just like little girls I love some good twirl. My choice fell on the long sleeves against the 3/4 sleeves. Those just didn't seem good enough for me. With that huge warm cowl, and my arms out... Nope, not for me. And by the way, that beautiful cowl always lays perfectly thanks to the pleats on the sides.

Thread Faction 2016 Collection Tour

I always find it a pleasure to be in pattern tours. I do. But sometimes it is just a bit better and much more fun than it is on other occasions. Today I get to take part in the Thread Faction SS 2016 tour, where myself and other ingenious and talented ladies, are showing off our takes, hacks and reviews on Thread Faction's girls spring/summer collection. Besides, there are great giveaways, so keep reading. Thread Faction Studio's owner is Liz, the designer behind Hatchlings Patterns too, you know, I keep mentioning her pattern, M is for Motto Joggers because it truly is one of my fave and most worn pieces. When I got the e-mail for this tour I just couldn't say no, in fact I was pretty exited. 

The collection includes 7 girl patterns, including shorts, dresses, tops, a skort and romper, from size 2 to size 10. I used patterns #104 (tank top), and #105 (cropped top). I started with the tank top. My first attempted was a refashion, I used a women's knit shirt, the print imitates denim pockets and such. For the binding, I refashioned a shirt that no longer fit my daughter, in little polka dots. This top is super quick to sew, but it wasn't for me. My machine started acting as soon as I tried to sew with my double needed. After a lot of headache and losing precious time, I just gave up and used a zigzag stitch all over, it doesn't look as pretty but, well. I did a little hack to this one, adding a band in the bottom, that tights with a knot in the front. I think I need to sew it a bit more to close, and also I will have to buy a new double needle to try and see if that was the problem (I tried everything else). The top it's a size 5. 

My first idea was to make a coordinate cropped top to layer with this one, but I just couldn't seem to find the right fabric for that matter in my stash, so I moved on. I started my second piece. The cropped top using pattern #105. No changes to this one, although I think the pocket placement looks a bit weird to me. My fabric was super stretchy and I guess that messed up with it, it was super hard to sew the pocket, it kept slipping away and pulling when it shouldn't. 

I made my daughter a size 5, and when I tried it on her, she refused to take it off. I actually had to wash it before the shooting because she had stained it already. When I asked her what her fave piece was, she said it was this one. I made the leggings out of an Ottobre Design pattern (size 110cm), just to complete the bottom. I used the same knit fabric I used for the pocket. When I was done with it, I knew I needed a second tank top. Did I mention these are patterns designed for knits? Well... I tried a woven version, someone had to, right? So, yes, I used woven fabric for my second tank top (pattern #104), although I still used the knit for the arm and neck bands. Again, the same I used for the cropped top and the leggings, it is the dot line that conects them all. 

To make it woven I used a bigger size (a 6 in this case). My biggest concern was that it wouldn't go through her head or it was too tight to get her arms in, so I had her trying it on before I finished just to make sure I didn't need to cut and add a loop and button to close or something. But it actually works well as is and the extra work wasn't needed. Of course, using woven instead of knit wasn't enough for me, and I had something else in mind. Why not, adding some lace too? I have a tank dress that uses lace on the top back piece too, so I tried it on as well. I just cut the back piece how I wanted it to, and added seam allowances to both pieces. It's still a very comfortable piece, just a little fancier. By the way, I got that light and so soft fabric in a street market in Spain, and the lace, is a vintage one from my sister's MIL. 

That's how I completed my outfit. There's another hack for the #105 pattern on the cutting table, I didn't get the chance to finish it. I hope I do soon so I can share it. As for the tank top, Liz shares a lot of color clocking ideas/option in the pattern instructions.

Holiday Debut Blog Tour

Já está tudo em modo de festa? Ah pois é, Dezembro cheira a glamour e aconchego. E eu tenho o prazer enorme de participar neste tour, com tanta gente talentosa, e criações tão magnificas, perfeitas para estes dias festivos. Este tour, apresenta 3 moldes, de 3 designers que celebram assim, o fim do seu primeiro ano como designers. Os moldes são o Fishtal Kimono (Chalk & Notch), o Abby Footed Tights (The Wolf and the Tree) e o Blue Ridge Dress (Hello Holly Patterns), e eu, hoje, apresento-vos as minhas versões dos dois primeiros. 

Are you all into festive mood? Oh yes, December smells like glamour and cosiness. And I have the great pleasure of being part of this tour today, with a lotof talented people, and gorgeous crestions, perfect for the holidays. This tour, presents 3 patterns, from 3 designers that are now celebrating the end of a year as new designers. The patterns are the Fishtal Kimono (Chalk & Notch), Abby Footed Tights (The Wolf and the Tree) and Blue Ridge Dress (Hello Holly Patterns), and I have picked the two first ones to show you my versions today. 

Ambas as peças me deram imenso gozo, e foram super rápidas de fazer. Comecemos então por onde eu comecei também, que foi por escolher o tecido para as meias. A partir dai tive que escolher o tecido para o kimono, queria algo que fosse digno das festas, mas que ficasse bem com as meias e que desse também para conjugar com outros looks no dia a dia. E depois de analisar bem as possibilidades de todos os meus tecidos, acabei por escolher o mesmo veludo preto que usei para fazer os Bubble Shorts, o molde da Marta (Do Guincho), e que infelizmente já não servem à G. Infelizmente também preto e veludo não são propriamente a coisa mais fácil de se fotografar, e os detalhes nas costas do mesmo, ficam impossíveis de serem vistos nas minhas fotos, e é por isso que não há nenhuma sequer. Ó sim, e ela tem um buraco mesmo no meio da blusa porque caiu mesmo antes das fotos e rasgou-a, para grande tristeza minha, já que é uma das minhas preferidas. 

Both pieces were amazingle fun to make, and quick. Let's start from where I started too. which was the fabric for the footed tights. From there I had to pick the fabric for the Fishtail Kimono. I wanted something suitable for the holidays but alsowearable with daily looks. And after going throgh all the fabrics available on my stash, I picked the same velvet fabric I used for the Bubble Shorts by Marta (Do Guincho), and sadly don't fit G. anymore. Sadly as well, velvet and black aren't really the easiest thing to shoot, and the back details are nearly impossible to see in my photos (and that's why I am not posting a back view of this). Oh yes, she does have a hole in her sweater because she fell right before we started photographing, and it ripped, I was so deeply sad, because this is one of my faves. 

O kimono vem com opção de ajustar a altura das mangas e do corpo. As costas são compostas por duas peças, sendo que a parte de baixo é franzida no centro criando um detalhe interessante e feminino. E os tamanhos vão do XXS (18-24M) ao XXL (12 anos). Embora as medidas da G. a enquadrassem no S, eu fiz o XS e ainda bem, porque ainda assim, é bastante largo. 

The kimono comes with lenght and sleeve lenght adjustment cut lines. The back are built out of two pieces, and the lower one gathers in the center, creating an interesting and feminine detail. Size range starts at XXS (18-24M) to XXL (12 years). Although G.'s measurements would fit her into a S, I chose to make the XS and I am glad I did since there is a lot os ease in this pattern. 

O nosso look pode não parecer muito festivo, bem sei, mas não temos o habito de nos vestirmos formalmente nestas ocasiões passadas em família, claro que ainda espero fazer um vestido para ela, mas nada demasiado glamoroso. Mas continuando, e passando então às meias. Foram uma surpresa agradável. O molde traz na realidade dois moldes, um indicado para tecidos com elasticidade em dois sentidos, e outro para tecidos com elasticidade nos 4 sentidos. O meu, foi o segundo. A cintura também oferece dois acabamentos: cintura com dobra (tipo yoga) e cintura com elástico. Neste caso não segui as instruções e apliquei o elástico da mesma forma que faço sempre. São 17 tamanhos disponíveis, dos 0-14, e sim, pergunto-me se me servirão a mim também?! 

Our look isn't as festive as you'd imagine, I know, but we don't usually fancy up much for those family celebrations, of course I am still planning on making her a cute dress, but nothing too glamorous. Anyway, let's move to the footed tights. Those were a good surprise. The patterns comes actaully with two patterns, one for two ways stretch fabrics and another one for 4 ways stretch fabrics. I used the last one. The waistband has two ways too, one is a yoga waistband and the other one is an elastic waist. I went with the second option again, but I didn't follow the instructions tofinish it, instead I did it as I always do. There are 17 sizes in this pattern, from 0 to 14 years and yes, I am wondering if they fit me too?!

Alguém reparou nos outras peças feitas à mão desta publicação? São outras 3: A boina feita pela minha mãe (eu tenho um igual), a macaca, a amiga inseparável dela desde os 17 meses - aqui recusou-se mesmo a largar a macaca, já que tinha caído momentos antes - e também os calções (Morocco Shorts - Petit a Peit and Family) que fiz para o Top Stitchers em Maio.

Sweet Innocence Pattern Tour

Depois de os meus filhos terem ficado doentes, acabei por me atrasar imenso em tudo o que tinha para fazer. Este tour em que participo agora foi a mais penalizada, infelizmente. O molde Sweet Innocence da Annastacia Cruz (My Treasured Heirlooms), como o próprio nome indica, é do mais doce que há. A designer, pediu-nos que fizéssemos dele, o que bem entendêssemos, alterando, misturando, etc. A verdade é que ele é lindo e perfeito como é, mas é uma costura demorada, devido aos folhos, principalmente para quem não tem um pé especifico como eu (ouviste pai natal?). 

After my kids getting sick, I got late with everything else I had to make. This tour was the most penalized one, unfortunately. The Sweet Innocence pattern from Annastacia Cruz (My Treasured Heirlooms), as the name says it's the sweetest thing. The designer asked us to use it as we wish, altering, mixing, etc. The truth is that it really is beautiful and perfect as it is already, but it takes a while to be sewn, because of its ruffles, especially for someone who doesn't own a ruffle foot like myself (did you hear this Santa?). 

Por isso, e porque o vestido não trás uma opção de manga comprida andei a pensar nas minhas possibilidades. O que eu mais gosto do molde, é mesmo do efeito da saia, com os folhos para a frente, e também do vestido interior, com as mangas e cós franzidos, mas isso para um vestido de natal, com este frio, estava riscado da minha lista. Peguei então na saia exterior. E foi o que fiz para já. Tenho planos de fazer um vestido interior também, mas tenho que estudar a melhor forma de o fazer, por isso, para já, temos uma saia que podemos sobrepor com outras peças de roupa. 

That and the fact that it doesn't come with a long sleeve option, I had to think my possibilities. What I like better on this pattern is the skirt effect on the front, and also the peasent dress, with elastic on sleeves and neckline, but that wouldn't work on a cold christmas, so it was crossed off my list. I went for the skirt then. And that's all I did for now. I have plans to make a peasant dress too, but I have to wwork out a way to do it, so, for now, we have a skirt that we can overlap with any other pieces. 

Adoro o tecido que usei. Já o tenho há tanto tempo, e é tão velhinho. Foi trazido dos EUA pela sogra da minha irmã, por volta de 1980, ainda é mais velho do que eu. A quantidade que eu tinha dele, era imensa, mas fui usando, oferecendo... e ainda me sobra cerca de um metro. Usei do molde duas peças apenas, a da saia e a do folho. Para a cintura cortei apenas uma barra com largura suficiente para a cintura da minha filha, e costurei-a à saia. Coloquei um elástico na mesma e estava pronta. Mas isto tudo ainda levou o seu tempo, porque como já referi não tenho pé calcador para franzir, e com o velho método de puxar a linha levei uma eternidade para o folho, e mais outra menos eterna a franzir a saia para o tamanho da cintura. É um projeto demorado sim, mas valeu tanto a pena, só pela saia. Ela adorou, porque roda imenso, até achou que parecia uma princesa (e é mesmo!). Nem quero ver quando lhe faça o vestido inteiro, quem sabe pelo aniversário que calha no meio do calor. 

I love the fabric I used. I have it for many years, it's so old. It was brought from the USA by my sister's MIL, around 1980, it's even older than I am. I had so much of it, I used it, I gifted it, and I still have about 1m left. I used two pieces only from the pattern to make my skirt, which were skirt panel and ruffle piece. For the waist I cut a band long enough to fit my daughter's waist, and sewn it to the skirt with an elastic. But all this took it's sweet time, because, as I said before, I don't have a ruffle foot and I had to use the thread pulling technique, and it took me an eternity to gather the ruffle, and a little eternity to gather the skirt to the waist size. It is a project that takes time but it is so worth it, even just for the skirt. She loved due to the twirling factor, she even thought she was a princess (and she is!). I can't even imagine how it'll be when she gets a complete dress, who knows for her birthday which is in the warm weather season. 

O molde é muito completo. Traz 3 opções para o vestido principal. Mais duas opções para o vestido interior e ainda umas calças com ou sem folho em baixo. E para quem se estiver a perguntar, mas não és tu que não gostas de folhos?! Eu respondo: estes são a excepção à regra. Os tamanhos vão do 2 ao 10. 

The pattern is really complete. It comes with three options for the main dress. Two options for the peasent dress and pants pattern, with or without the ruffles. And for those who might be wondering, didn't you say you don't like ruffles?! I answer: this is the exception to the rule. Size goes from 2 to 10.

Petit Oiseau Blog Tour

Não sei se por ai fazem o mesmo, mas por vezes, quando vejo alguém (adulto ou criança) com alguma peça de roupa vestida, que contenha algum detalhe interessante, ou algo diferente que sobressaia, saco logo do meu caderno de apontamentos e rabisco aquilo que vi para mais tarde tentar reproduzir à minha maneira. Há uns meses, estava eu numa gasolineira, quando vi uma rapariga com uma camisola que me pareceu interessante. O pormenor da mesma, era uma faixa em tecido contrastante que começava num ombro e atravessava até ao braço oposto, na frente. Rabisquei-a claro, mas nunca mais me lembrei disso até que a Mélanie (Filles à Maman) lançou esta tour para o seu molde Petit Oiseau, que é basicamente aquilo que eu tinha visto. Na verdade, o molde vem com mais outra opção, um folho costurado entre as duas peças da frente (como podem ver na imagem oficial da tour abaixo), mas eu escolhi a opção mais simples, porque folhos não fazem muito o meu género; não descarto todos, mas com toda a sinceridade, este seria demasiado para mim. É uma questão de gosto pessoal, lá está. Gosto muito mais da versão sem ele, por ser mais o meu estilo. E optei pela manga comprida, também traz opção para a curta, mas aqui, agora, faz frio para mangas curtas. 

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes, when I see someone (adult or child) wearing somthing that catches my eyes, with an interesting details, something that stands out and different, I quickly pick my notebook and scatch it so I can try to reproduce it my way later. A few months ago, while at a gas stop, I saw this lady wearing a pretty interesting shirt. The detail, was a sort of a band, starting at one shoulder and ending on the oposite sleeve, on the front. I sketched it of course, but I didn't think of it anymore, until Mélanie (Filles à Maman) came up with this tour for her Petit Oiseau pattern, which is basically what I had seen. The pattern actually comes with another version, a ruffle that is sewn between top and bottom pieces of the front, but honestly here, I am not a ruffles person, I don't dislike them all, but this here would be just too much for me. It's a matter of personal taste, of course. The plain version is much more my style and therefore, I like it much better. I also picked the long sleeve version, but there is a short one too, it's just too cold to do that one right now, in here. 

Depois do último teste que fiz, que foi uma coisa detalhada e mais morosa (mostro assim que possa), e que foi a última coisa que fiz antes de costurar esta camisola para a G. soube-me muito bem criar uma peça tão simples, em que começar e terminar numa só tarde é bem possível. O molde é constituído por 4 peças apenas (frente topo, frente, trás e colarinho opcional), e o que mais trabalho dá é mesmo imprimir e colar o molde, e ainda assim, temos a vida facilitada porque é um daqueles moldes em que não precisamos de cortar/dobrar margens algumas, e sim, apenas colar. Precisamos de uma mesa com espaço (ou o belo do chão, porque não?!), para cortar as peças pois corpo e mangas fazem parte de uma só peça. 

After the latest pattern test I did, which is something more details and slow sewing (I'll share as soon as I am allowed to), which was the last one I did before this shirt for G, it felt so good to make something this simple, quite easy to start and finish in an afternoon. The pattern is made out of 4 different pieces (top front, front, back and neckband, which is optional), and assembling the pattern is the hardest part, even though, we got it quite easy because there's no pattern trimming here, we just have to tape them together. You do need a good cutting table (or, why not, the good old floor) to cut it because body and sleeves are one piece only. 

No meu caso, até foram 5 peças, porque escolhi um tecido muito fino, meio transparente para o topo (com os corações), por isso, optei por usar o mesmo tecido do resto da camisola como forro. Ainda assim, costurar esta peça foi num piscar de olhos. Aconselho vivamente a toda a gente que goste do estilo, para as iniciantes, não tem nada de complicado, poucos costuras a fazer, tem algumas curvas mas nada de especial ou demasiado acentuado. Para as mais experientes, é uma óptima peça para quando precisamos de fazer algo que consigamos começar e acabar de uma assentada só. 

In my case, I had to cut 5 pieces, because my top fabric (the one with the hearts) was too thin, a bit see through, so using the main shirt fabric to line it was my option. Still, sewing this piece was in a blink. I recommend it to everyone that likes the style, for begginers, it really doesn't have that many seams, there are a few curves but they are smooth and easy going. For the experts, this is a great piece to start and finish in an mmmbop (ahahaha any Hanson fans out there?). 

As mangas asa de morcego (ou dolman) dão o toque final. Adoro. Eu fiz o tamanho 4 anos para a G. Sinceramente nem a medi, sabia que caberia num 3 ou num 4, mas como ela já tem um número considerável de camisolas para este Inverno, preferi fazer o 4 e se estivesse grande, melhor, durava mais tempo. De corpo penso que até ficou boa, mas as mangas ficaram pouco mais de 2 cm compridas demais, nada que uma dobra não resolva. Quanto a tecidos, usei uma malha de algodão de uma fronha XXL, penso que era até de colchão, mas estava novinha em folha, tecido extra!!! O tecido dos corações, comprei há uns bons meses atrás online, é bastante fino e super suave ao toque. E mais uma vez, penso que aqui a peça ganhou pela simplicidade, fácil de conjugar com várias outras peças já existentes do guarda roupa da princesa. 

The dolman sleeves are the final touch. Love them. I made size 4 for G. Honestly I didn't even measure her, I knew for sure, she'd easily fit either a 3 or a 4, but I went with the latest, since she has her share of shirts for this winter, I rather make the largest number and let it grow with her. It fits perfectly in the bodice, only the sleeves were about 1" too long, but we can always fold it over for now. As for fabric, I used a XXL pillow cover, actually I think it was a small matress cover, it is a very soft cotton knit that I refashioned, so much extra fabric!!! The hearts fabric is very thin and super softto the touch, I bought it online a few months ago. Again, I believe this piece has won for the simplicity, it is easy to put together using other existing pieces from my princess wardrobe.

Parece que hoje é o último dia, eu, juntamente com a Inês, encerramos os 15 dias de comemoração do aniversário da revista finlandesa Ottobre design! Não estão a entender do que falo? Não seja por isso, passo já a explicar. 15 amigas bloggers e todas portuguesas, ficámos ultra doidinhas quando soubemos que a revista acima referida já se encontrava à venda no nosso país. A Marta lançou o mote e nós seguimos atrás... os 15 anos da Ottobre foram a desculpa perfeita para a tour sair à rua. Começou no dia 15 de Outubro, claro, e como já referi conta com 15 bloggers. It looks like it is the last day, together with Inês, I am closing the 15 days celebrating the Finn magazine Ottobre designs anniversary. Are you a bit lost? I'll enlight you. 15 portuguese friends and bloggers, went really out of our minds when we realised the magazine was selling in our country too. Marta had the idea and we just followed... the 15 years of Ottobre were just the perfect excuse to finally have this tour. It started October 15th, and of course, with 15 bloggers as I mentioned above. You can see all the posts from previous days by clicking the links above. 

Quando pensei na tour, não imaginei que fosse ter tanto sucesso, nem que a própria Ottobre seria nossa patrocinadora, mas as coisas foram evoluindo e assim aconteceu. Como de início pensei que fosse uma coisa mais pequena, não me preocupei muito com o que ia fazer, folheei as 3 edições que tenho, e escolhi fazer um pijama para o meu filhote, porque para esta altura em que ainda não faz muito frio, não tinha muitos.

When I thougth about this tour, I didn't imagine it would be so successful, neither did I image that Ottobre itself would sponser us, but things went that way. Since I thought it'd be a smaller thing at first, I didn't care much for what to do, I went through the 3 edition I had and chose to make a pajama for my boy, because it's not warm but not too cold yet, and he didn't have many for this season

Claro que tentar fotografar o piolho de um ano foi um bocadinho frustrante, por isso acabei por desistir.

Of course, trying to photograph this little fellow was really frustrating, so I just gave up.

O molde foi o Lullaby Bird, nº1, (tamanho 86cm) da revista 6/2014, que foi também a primeira edição que adquiri (obrigado Rita!). Fica bem no corpo ao meu filho, mas como o rapaz é curto de membros, sobra muita manga e perna. O que também não faz mal nenhum, assim dura mais tempo. Usei um tecido barato que tinha por casa há algum tempo, é uma malha fina mas não sei precisar qual. O viés em verde foi feito em casa e usei restos de uma reciclagem de há uns meses atrás.

The pattern was the Lullaby Bird, number 1 (86cm size) from the 6/2014 edition, which was also the first one I got (thank you Rita!). It looks good on my boy's body but it's too long for legs and arms, there's a lot of fabric left. Which is ok anyway, it lasts longer. I used a cheap fabric that I had in my stash for a while, it's a thin knit but I can tell which. The bias tape was homemade and I used scraps from a previous refashion to make it. 

A vantagem de ser uma das últimas neste caso, foi ver as peças maravilhosas que foram surgindo em cada um dos blogs das minhas colegas. E claro, bateu aqui uma vergonha interna daquilo que eu tinha feito para apresentar nesta tour. Então fiquei toda feliz por estar no último dia, isso significava mais tempo para fazer algo de maior conformidade e estar pelo menos perto da qualidade delas (hehe).

The great thing about being in the last day of the tour, in this case, was being able to see all the great things my friends were sharing. And of course, I felt a little ashamed of what I had to post for the tour. I was super happy that I still had time to make something better though, so I could at least get closer to their quality (hehe). 

Ainda assim não fiz grandes planos, felizmente os meus filhos estão com muita roupa para a próxima estação, precisam apenas de uma ou outra peça, e foi a pensar nisso que cosi umas calças de treino para ela. Obviamente reciclei peças que já estavam na pilha para esse propósito (ou não seria eu!!). Uma t-shirt minha e uma do pai (que já tinha mostrado no podcast, para quem não viu, fica aqui), e ainda mais restos de punhos e cós que tinha tirado de uns casacos há tempos atrás.

Even though, I didn't make any huge plans, fortunately my kids have plenty enough clothes for the next season, they only need one or two pieces, and it wasa thinking of this that I went for some joggers for her. Obviously I refashioned pieces that were in the pile already (or it wouldn't be be!!). I used a t-shirt from me, and one from dad, and a few leftovers from rib knit I had saved froma few hoodies in the past. 

Usei o molde nº 26, Hop and Jump da edição 1/2015. Na tabela de medidas da Ottobre a minha filha veste um 92cm, mas eu optei pelo intermédio entre o que a tabela me diz, e a altura dela, por isso fiz de 98cm. Deois de as ver nela, achei que devia ter ajustado para a altura dela, os 104cm. Usei a frente da minha camisa para fazer a frente das calças e também o encaixe para o cordão. Usei a parte de trás da camisa do pai para a parte de trás das calças e para os bolsos. Na cintura e nos punhos usei a malha canelada que reaproveitei. O cordão fazia parte do meu acumulado de cordões.

I used pattern number 26, Hop and Jump from the 1/2015 edition. My daughter fits a 92cm according to Ottobre's measurement charts, but I went with the middle size between that and her actual height, so I used the 98cm. After seeing it on her, I thought I should have adjusted instead, and add the 104cm lenght to it. I used my shirt's front for the front and waist of the joggers, and I used dad's shirt for the back and pockets. In the waist band and leg bands I used the rib knit I recycled. The cord was in my stash too. 

Ainda tirei o pó à corta e cose, e consegui sem ajuda de ninguém enfiar as (4) linhas por completo, mas depois a linha partia sempre que tentava usar aquilo, e por levar horas a enfiar linhas ingratas, acabei por usar a minha máquina normal. Como não tem muitos pontos inventei, na hora de pespontar as partes visíveis, na cintura e nos bolsos. Nos punhos, fiz a montagem de forma diferente das indicações da revista por pura preguicite aguda, mas de resto foi costurado tal qual. As instruções da Ottobre podem ser um bocadinho intimidadoras para quem não está habituado a determinados termos (e ainda mais se estão a usar a versão espanhola, que é a que costumo encontrar sempre por cá, até mesmo eu que sou fluente na língua me deparo por vezes com terminologias que desconheço e vou por intuição).

I dusted my overlock, and I was able to thread it (4) completely, but the it just kept breaking everytime I tried to use it, and since it was taking me a lot of time (which I didn't have), I just gave up and used my regular sewing machine instead. Since it doesn't have a lot of decorative stitches I just went with what I had trying to get creative, in the waistline and pockets. I sewed it differently from the instructions in the leg bands but all the rest I did according to those. Ottobre's instructions are not for the newbies for sure, they can scare you out with unknow terminology (it gets even harder when you are using the spanish edition which is the one I find over here, even for a spanish fluent person as myself, sometimes I just go by intuition). 

Quando pensei nas fotos para esta publicação, pensei em algo simples, algo que ficasse bem com as calças mas que não fosse pesado. Ainda ponderei em fazer uma camisola em preto, mas achei que as calças já eram escuras o suficiente, até para mim que gosto de ver os miúdos com preto também, afinal é apenas uma cor. Gosto de miúdos com ar de crescidos, mas confortáveis - e esse é um dos grandes pontos fortes do molde da Ottobre, são pensados para que os miúdos possam ser isso mesmo, miúdos, que correm, saltam e brincam à vontade. Depois pensei em fazer uma camisola branca, mas lembrei-me que tinha comprado uns meses antes uma t-shirt baratinha para um projeto, mas que nunca foi usada. Assim que peguei nela, e atualizai-a um pouco, adicionando a pegada de leopardo para casar bem com as calças) e dei-me por satisfeita. Brevemente falarei mais sobre a mesma, e como fazer a aplicação com um pequeno passo a passo.

When I thought about the photos for this post, I wanted something simple, that coul go with the pants but were not too heavy. I considered making a black shirt for her, but the look was dark enough, even for my own taste, I like to see kids wearing black, after all it's just a color. I like to see kids with a gorwn up look, though comfortable too - and that is a major thing about Ottobre's patterns, they are thought in order to have kids being, well, kids, jumping and playing around comfortably. Then I thought about making a white shirt, buy it came to my mind that I had bought a cheap t-shirt a while ago for another project, but had never been used after all. I grabbed that one, and upcycled it by adding a leopard paw print to match the pants and called it a day. Soon I will blog about that said shirt, with a quick tutorial on how to do the applique.
