PR&P15 |Signature Style|

Esta já é a última semana desta temporada do Project Run & Play, o que significa a semana de Signature Style (um look que nos defina, vá!). Para mim significa apenas costurar seja o que for que queira costurar, e desta vez escolhi fazer algo que andava na minha mente há muito tempo, mais precisamente desde que testei o molde fenix romper o ano passado. Adorei o meu e sabia que ia adorar ver a minha filha em algo do género, por isso decidi tentar. 

It's the last week of this season in Project Run & Play and that always means Signature Style week. For me it just means sewing whatever I've been wanting to, and this time I choose to make something that has been on my mind for about a year after I tested the fenix romper. I loved my adult version and I knew I'd love to see my daughter in something similar, so I gave it a try. 

Tentei desenhar o meu próprio molde para a minha menina de 6 aninhos mas falhei... a frente ficou demasiado baixa, sei que não o poderá vestir sem uma camisola por baixo - a parte boa é que até gosto de como fica. Ainda não desisti, digamos que este será apenas uma prova até conseguir aperfeiçoar o molde, entretanto acho que este até dá para vestir. 

I tried to draft a similar pattern for my 6 year old, but I failed... the front is too low and I know she won't be able to wear it without a shirt underneath - good thing is I like how the layered option looks like. I haven't given up yet, this was like my first muslin and I have to get it perfected, meanwhile I think this is kinda wearable. 

O tecido que usei, é também o que usei no primeiro que fiz para mim aquando do teste, nunca falei realmente sobre ele aqui no blog, cheguei sim a publicar uma foto com ele vestido durante o desafio do Me Made May e que podem ver aqui. O modelo pede tecidos com um bom cair e a boa verdade já não me restam muitos com tamanho suficiente - e que sejam apropriados à idade dela, claro. Que bem que me ando a portar, a usar mais do que a comprar... se bem que cheira-me que este mês ainda me vou portar mal. 

I actually used the same fabric I used for my wearable muslin, which I never really blogged about, but have posted a photo here duirng last year's Me Made May. This patterns calls for fabric with a great drape and I sure ain't got that many of those that are long enough to cut it - and that is child appropriate, of course. Oh I'm doing so well, using more from my stash than I bought in new... though it smells like I might be a bad girl ahead this month.

Ora bem! Não estava nada inspirada para esta semana. Tinha uma ideia inicialmente mas faltou-me a motivação para a levar adiante. Estava mesmo prestes a desistir de acompanhar o desafio desta semana, mas acabei por encontrar este tecido às riscas cinzentas e prateadas enquanto remexia nos meus tecidos, e achei-o apropriado para o tema, o prateado faz-me lembrar cenas do espaço e tal... 

Alright! I wasn't really inspired by this week's theme. I had an idea at first but no motivation to do it. I was actually ready to give up at all sewing along this week, but somehow, as I was going through my fabric stash, I came across this silver and grey striped fabric which I thought was appropriate, and silver reminds me of spacy stuff anyway... 

O tecido foi-me oferecido mais uma vez, desta vez pela minha amiga Patrícia, podem encontrá-los na loja Maçãs d'Amor.Este retalho foi o que me sobrou de uma camisola que fiz para mim no ano passado - agora por isso, nunca cheguei a publicá-la por aqui. Há uma foto no meu IG. Enfim... come já não era muito, não tive outra opção senão fazer dele o melhor possível e usar a imaginação. Usei o molde Hazel Blouse da Petite Stitchery & Co. Usei-o aqui também. 

The fabric was a gift again, this time from my friend Patrícia, you can get it over Maçãs d'Amor. This scrap I had was actually the leftovers from another shirt I made myself last year - which reminds me I haven't post about it yet. There's a photo on IG though. Anyway... because I didn't have a lot anymore I had no choice but work it the best I could and get creative. I used the Hazel Blouse pattern by Petite Stitchery & Co. I have used this pattern before, in here. 

Usei a opção da manga curta porque não tinha tecido suficiente para fazer as mangas em balão maravilhosas novamente. Para cortar a parte da saia da túnica aproveitei ao máximo o que sobrou depois de ter cortado todas as outras peças da parte de cima, assim que não segui as medidas das instruções. Também mudei o comprimento da banda das mangas, em vez de 5cm, eu cortei 12,5 cm. Costurei tudo esta manhã enquanto fazia o almoço e corria atrás do meu mais novo. Fiz um tamanho 6. 

I did the short sleeve option because I didn't have enough fabric to make those beautiful bubble sleeves again. Also, used as much as I could from what I got left after cutting all the top pieces to cut the skirt. I didn't follow instructions on cutting for this. I also changed the lenght of the sleeve band, in this case, I made it larger, instead of cutting 2" I cut it 5". I sewed it up this morning between making lunch and running after my youngest. I made a size 6. 

Depois de terminar o top olhei em volta, para algumas peças que tinha penduradas no meu espaço. Lá estava este Phresh Blazer de xadrez verde (molde da Winter Wears Designs, que já usei muitas vezes antes, aqui podem ver mais quatro. E esta semana acabei mais um!). Estava quase terminado havia semanas, só tinha alguns detalhes por fazer como terminar as mangas, fazer a casa para o botão, coser o mesmo e acabar de colocar a fita de viés na bainha. Por ser verde relacionei-o aos homenzinhos verdes (extraterrestres). 

After finishing the top I stared at the other pieces I had hanging in my craftroom. There was this green plaid Phresh Blazer (pattern by Winter Wears Designs, which I have used many times before - here's four more for you to see. I also finished another this past week!). It was nearly finished for weeks, I only had to do the sleeves, buttonhole and button and finish the bias binding on the hem. Because it was green, I related it to the little green fellas (alliens). 

O blazer tem várias opções e desta vez as que escolhi foram os folhos atrás que reciclei deste projecto, os bolsos embutidos com abas, e as mangas compridas e franzidas. Na verdade cortei o comprimento 3/4 porque não tinha tecido suficiente para cortar as compridas, mas depois cortei mais umas peças ao contrário do fio do tecido para criar um padrão contrastante e alongar as mangas. Oh, o tecido? Comprei-o no Pagapouco local há muitos anos. Já estava na hora de o tirar do armário. O tamanho escolhido foi o 8, porque o meu tecido não tem elasticidade como o molde pede, ainda lhe fica um pouco larguinho, mas já se sabe, assim dura mais tempo. 

The blazer has several options and this time I did the ruffles on the back, I actually recycled them from this project here, the inseam pockets with a welt and the long gathered sleeves. I actually cut the 3/4 sleeves option because, you know, I am trying to destash by fabrics and using what I have. I didn't have enough to cut the long sleeves, so I then cut another piece cut on the bias for contrasting print to add to the sleeve lenght. Oh, that fabric? Bought in a local shop many years ago. It was about time to get it out. I made a size 8 because my fabric didn't have any stretch as the pattern called for, it is still a bit too big for her but that's fine, it'll last longer. 

E para terminar, os calções - não sei como os relacionar com o tema, mas completam o meu look. ahahah Lembram-se de ter dito logo na primeira semana que os tinha cortados e meio começados em cima da mesa?! Pois bem, aqui estão. Acabei-os logo nos dias seguintes à publicação, e logo na primeira vez que a miúda os usou o fecho partiu. Era velho, tinha-o reciclado de alguma outra peça que desfiz anteriormente e não confirmei como costumo fazer se ainda estava bom. Fiquei tão fula comigo mesma, é que eu e fechos não somos os melhores amigos, e apesar de conseguir trocá-los e deixar tudo bonitinho na mesma,  o-d-e-i-o  ter de o fazer. Por acaso, arranjei-o ontem, mesmo a tempo para as fotos de hoje. 

And to finish, there's the shorts - I don't know how to relate them to the theme, but they would finish up my look. ahahah Remember how I said back in week one that I had the shorts cut and half started on my sewing table?! Well, here they are. I finished them just a few days after my post, and the very first time my daughter wore them the zipper broke. It was old, I reused it from some piece I refashioned in the past and although I usually test it before actually sewing it to a new garment, I haven't this time. I was so mad about it, just because zippers and I aren't friends, and although I can beautifully change a zipper, I  h-a-t-e  to do so. I fixed it yesterday, just in time to have it ready for today's photos.

O tecido é uma bombazine não muito grossa nem fina que comprei numa loja local há algum tempo, directamente do cesto dos retalhos, por isso mais uma vez não era muito. Era o suficiente para este projecto. Usei o molde 601 Calções de Menina da Burda Kids 1/2010 (da Espanha). Os calções têm um fecho com guarnição à frente, uma mola em vez de um botão porque a miúda ainda se debate com os mesmos, bolsos de encaixe na anca, cintura com elástico ajustável, pregas na frente, dobras na bainhas, pinças atrás e bolsos debruados com paletas. 

This is a medium light corduroy I bought locally, a long while ago, and I got it from the scraps bin, so not much once again. It was enough for this project though. I used the pattern 601 Girl's Shorts from Burda Kids 1/2010 (from Spain). The shorts feature a functional zipper fly, a snap instead of a button because my girl still struggles with them, side pockets, adjustable elastic waist, front pleats, folded hem, back darts and welt pockets with flaps. 

O tecido do forro que usei nos bolsos e na cintura, era apenas um pequeno retalho que recebi juntos com aquele lote imenso que uma leitora aqui do blog me enviou e do qual falo frequentemente. Ainda tenho muita coisa do mesmo por usar, apesar de ir usando em quase todas as peças que tenho vindo a fazer desde então. Era pedacinho era tão pequeno que tive que andar a remendar para conseguir a peça da cintura. 

The lining fabric I used in the pockets and waistband, was just a small scrap I got in that bundle a reader sent me a while ago, it came with so many pieces of fabric, I still have a lot although I've been using them in almost every project I made ever since I got them. This scrap was so small I had to patch it to get enough lenght for the waistband piece.

O tema do Project Run and Play era "Crafting a Estória" (algo como, "criar uma estória" e na minha cabecinha estava tudo delineado. Antes de mais, deixem-me que vos diga: 1. temos um casamento no próximo mês e eu quero vestir vermelho (normalmente a miúda combina comigo). 2. a Capuchinho vermelho sempre foi um preferido cá em casa (vermelho!). 3. Estava a testar o mais novo molde da E&E Patterns. 

The theme for the second week of Project Run and Play was "Crafting a Story" and in my head I had it all figured out. First of all, let me tell you: 1. we have a wedding next month and I want my outfit to be red (usually her dress matches mine). 2. Red riding hood is a all time favorite around here (red!). 3. I was testing the newest pattern by E&E Patterns. 

No entanto não queria ser demasiado óbvia e fazer-lhe uma capa vermelha, a minha ideia era mais fazer-lhe um vestido para o casamento com um blazer vermelho. Para o irmão tinha planeado fazer uma camisola lobo (um molde da Ottobre) e seria óptimo. Mais uma vez, quis fazer mais do que consegui e acabei por ficar-me pelo vestido. Mas para que saibam, ao menos acabei os calçoes da semana passada pois a miúda queria-os muito.

I didn't want to be too obvious though and make her a red hood, my idea was more of making her a dress for the wedding and then a blazer in red. For his brother I wanted to wake a wolf shirt (a pattern from Ottobre) and it would be great. Again, I wanted to do more than I couldn't and I was left with the dress alone. For your information though, I was able to sew the shorts from last week, since my girl wanted them so much. 

O molde é o Montrose Dress que saiu há apenas uns dias atrás. Ainda que as medidas da minha fossem precisamente as de um seis, eu fiz-lhe um tamanho acima para ter alguma folga caso a miúda cresça, já que não pára de o fazer (como todos os miúdos, eu sei!). Penso que o vestido é mesmo perfeito para o casamento principalmente quando lhe fizer o blazer vermelho.

This is the Montrose Dress Pattern, released just a couple of days ago. Although my daughter's measurements put her at a size 6, I made size 7 to have a little ease and room to grow - since she's constantly growing (as most kids I know!). I think this will look perfect for the wedding when I make her a little red blazer too. 

De volta ao vestido, já não posso precisar de onde veio este tecido. Creio estar certa quando digo que acho que veio junto com tantos outros que me foram dados por uma leitora do blog há uns tempos atrás. O tecido é magnifico, muito macio e com alguns fios bem finos prateados que dão um brilho muito bonito à peça. O seu único problema é ser transparente, por isso tive que forrar o vestido por completo e não só no topo como indica o molde. Este molde, tem também a opção de bolsos embutidos nas laterais e uma gola em folho, mas dispensei ambas as opções porque aqui achei que o menos era mais. Claro que adorava fazer uma versão com bolsos também, este é um daqueles vestidos que todas as miúda deveriam ter vários, tem tanta roda.

Back to the dress, I can't be sure anymore where the fabric came from. I have an impression that it came in a donation of loads of fabric pieces I got from a reader a while ago, but I really can't be sure anymore. This is an amazing fabric, so soft and with some very thin silver threads which add a special glow to the piece. The only problem is that it is pretty see through, so my dress has a full lining, in the original pattern only the bodice is. The pattern has optional inseam pockets and a ruffle collar too, which I skipped because here I went by the less is more rule. Of course I'd love to make a pockets version too, this is one of those twirling dresses every girl need at least a few of them.

Para terminar, dizer que o meu pesadelo quando costuro são os fechos, especialmente os invisivéis, e com tecido que escorrega um pouco, but correu bem. Não ficou perfeito, perfeito, mas melhor que o habitual. Infelizmente tirámos estas fotos assim que acordou por isso não estava muito satisfeita e foi tudo muito rápido... Gostava que o tempo estivesse um bocadinho mais primaveril mas chove lá fora neste momento e continua frio. =(

To finish, I always struggle with zippers, especially invisible zippers, on a slightly slippery fabric, but I did good. Not perfect by any means, but much better than usual. Sadly we took these photos first thing in the morning and it had to be quick... she wasn't too happy about it. I wish the weather was more Spring-like, to have her wearing this outside and take some very nice shoots, but it's raining outside and cold. =(

Estou a costurar a par do Project Run & Play outra vez! Tive que ir espreitar a última vez que o fiz porque já nem me lembrava. Desde que vi que vinha uma nova temporada fiquei bastante empolgada e ansiosa para que começasse. O tema para a primeira semana são as 7 Maravilhas do Mundo e eu inspirei-me numa das Antigas: O Templo de Artemis. Fiz uma pequena pesquisa para saber mais sobre ele e encontrei infinitas possibilidades de o representar na roupa da miúda. 

I am sewing along Project Run and Play again! I had to check what my last entry about it was because I couldn't even remember. Somehow, I felt quite excited about this newest season, and couldn't wait for it to start. First week's theme is 7 Wonders of the World and I went with one of the ancient: The Temple of Artemis. I did a little research just to get to know more about it and I saw endless ways to represent it in my kid's clothes. 

Para vos ajudar a perceber por onde fui, ficam aqui os tópicos pelos quais me guiei. Então, é um templo Grego (embora tenha sido construído na Turquia) e foi dedicado à deusa Artemis, deusa da caça, florestas e dos animais selvagens. É frequentemente representada a carregar arcos ou setas. Eram-lhe oferecidos itens valiosos como jóias, etc. 

To help you understand, I listed the topics I noted before coming up with a design. So, this is a Greek temple (though it was built in Turkey) and  it was dedicated to the hunt, forests and wild animals goddess Artemis. Artemis is often depicted carrying a bow or arrows. People used to pay tribute to her by offering valuable items as jewellery, etc. 

Primeiro pensei em fazer um vestido, com inspiração nos drapeados e tecidos da antiga Grécia, depois mudei de ideias e procurei um look mais descontraído. Um casaco de pêlo pareceu-me uma boa maneira de começar,  representando os animais selvagens e a caça. Só tinha este tecido em pêlo meio esverdeado em casa ( que comprei a pedido da miúda!) e foi mesmo este o escolhido.

I first thought about making a dress, using greek-like fabric and drapes, then I changed my mind for a more daily look. I thought about making a fur coat to represent the animals and the hunt. I only had this greenish fur available (which I had previously bought under her request) and that's what I used. 

Para o forro usei dois tecidos diferentes, o verde que tem uma tonalidade linda e que me foi oferecido, e o de xadres verde e branco que usei no pequeno bolso secreto e também nas mangas porque não tinha suficiente do verde sólido. Para que o xadrez não se visse, coloquei uma barra do verde sólido no final das mangas.

I used two different fabrics for the lining, the solid green, which is gorgeous and was a gift, and the chess fabric which was just a scrap from my stash. I used this one on the little secret pocket and also on the sleeves because I didn't have quite enough of the solid green. I added a solid green band on the bottom of the sleeves though so the chess wouldn't be noticed. 

Usei o molde #11 Super Sweet da Ottobre 4/2015 para o fazer, e alterei-o mudando a frente e adicionando o forro. Os tamanhos deste molde vão do 86 ao 122 cm. Fiz o maior para ela, ainda não está bem nos 122 cm mas também já não tem apenas 116 cm e não quis arriscar, mesmo porque estamos em Março, supostamente entramos este mês na Primavera e o casaco terá mais uso no próximo inverno do que propriamente neste.

I used the #11 Super Sweet pattern from Ottobre 4/2015 to make it, and changed it by lining it, and slightly altering the front. The sizes start at 86 and go up to 122 cm. I made her the biggest one, she's not quite 122 cm yet, but she's not 116 cm anymore either, and it was saver like this, especially because we are in March now and Spring should be just around the corner, so this will get to be used more often next winter. 

Depois queria fazer-lhe um top e pintar algumas setas nele, mas encontrei por entre os meus tecidos um resto deste com a penas que usei para mim anteriormente (aqui) e que também me pareceu bem, e então em vez do top fiz-lhe uma t-shirt com o molde Hickory and Spice Henley, já que a vontade de a fazer vinha desde que fiz a versão menino para o meu filho.

I then wanted to make her a tank top and paint some arrows on it, but I found this feathered fabric in my stash and that I had used on me before (here) and figured this would look good too, so instead of the tank top, I made her a Hickory and Spice Henley, which I had been meaning to since I made the boy's version for my boy. 

Porém não fiquei lá muito satisfeita, e deve-se à minha escolha de tecido. Este é demasiado fino para o molde, e escorregadio, por isso não fiquei satisfeita com o resultado - as expetativas estavam lá em cima mas não correu tão bem. Penso que também deveria ter brincado mais com os diferentes tecidos e ter usado o preto na gola e no acento dos ombros como fiz com a dele. O modelo perde-se um pouco quando usado apenas o tecido principal. 

I wasn't so happy with how it turned out after all, and that was because this fabric was too thin and slippery and I disliked how it turned out. Expectations were high and it didn't meet them. I also think I should have used more color blocking on the shoulders and collar details, as I did with his. The designs gets a bit lost because I used the same main fabric. 

Tinha planeado fazer uns calções também, mas esqueço-me sempre que a vida se mete pelo meio e nem sempre o tempo chega. Já não consigo sacrificar horas de sono, ficando a costurar noite adentro como fazia quando só tinha a mais velha pequenina e não trabalhava fora, nessa altura apesar de tudo, era mais fácil costurar. Agora já não consigo, não chego a tudo, e os calções ficaram ali, cortados e meio costurados, na minha mesa de costura. O molde que estou a usar é da Burda. 

I had also planned a pair of shorts to go along, but I always forget how life can get in the middle and time is never enough. I just can't stand very late night sewing as I did when I had just one toddler and was a stay at home mom. It was easier to get some more sewing time back then, when I sacrificed hours of sleep. I just can't do that anymore, I can't reach it all, and my shorts are cut and started, but unfinished on my sewing table. I am using a Burda pattern.

Quando me deitei há duas noites atrás, depois de acabar o fato de Carnaval para a minha sobrinha L. (sou tão última hora!), lembrei-me que o último dia para o link up do Project Run & Play (que voltou finalmente ao seu formato antigo, depois de um ano à espera) estava perto, e já que esperei tanto por este momento, não fazia sentido deixar passar em branco. Gostava de conseguir costurar de acordo com os 4 temas (um por semana), a ver se a minha pachorra para a costura me volta, que não tem sido muito amiguinha.

When I went to bed two days ago, after finishing my niece's carnival costume (I'm such a last minute!), it came across my mind that the last day to link over at Project Run & Play (that just came back to its original format, after a year waiting for it) sew along party was getting too close, and since I waited this long, it wouldn't make sense to just let it pass blank. I'd like to be able to sew along with the 4 themes (one each week), and see if my sewing mojo gets back, it hasn't been much of a friend lately.

Então, o primeiro tema era "Nothing but knit" que é como quem diz, vamos focar-nos nas malhas, sim? ;) ou seja, um tema super fácil, porque desde que seja costurado com malhas, é bastante livre e abrangente. E eu aproveitei para fazer uma peça simples mas cheia de encanto para a minha filha. Neste caso, um vestido high low* primaveril, em french terry, com estampa de coelhos; e enquanto o fazia, pensava quão perfeito para a Páscoa ele é. * expressão usada para uma peça que é mais curta à frente do que atrás. 

So, the first theme is "Nothing but knit", and it is, a super easy one, because as long as we use knits, we're pretty much free to do whatever we want to. And I just grabbed the chance to make a simple but super cute piece for my daughter. In this case, a high low dress for spring, made of french terry knit, and a rabbits prints; while I was sewing I just kept thinking how suitable this would be for Easter. 

Usei um molde da Ottobre 1/2016, o vestido nº 28, tamanho 104 cm que é precisamente a altura da G. - ou isso pensei eu porque quando o experimentei na miúda, dei conta de que ficou demasiado curto para ser chamado vestido, possivelmente só o vai vestir com leggings. O engraçado é que ainda pensei em fazer um número maior, porque gosto que as peças cresçam um bocadinho com ela e assim, duram mais, mas depois lembrei-me que os moldes Ottobre, têm tendência a ficar algo largos nos meus filhos, por isso optei por seguir as medidas dela (as que eu pensei que ela ainda tinha!).

I used pattern number 28 from Ottobre 1/2016, and I picked size 104 cm which is what my daughter measures - or so I thought, because after I put it on her, I realised it is a bit too short to call it a dress. She'll probably wear it with leggings only. The funny thing is that I considered making a bigger size, because I like the clothes to grow a little with her, and last a bit longer, but then I thought that Ottobre patterns are usually a bit too large on my kids, so I decided to go by her measurements (the ones I thought she was still in!). 

A única coisa que alterei foi o elástico na bainha, que eu passei à frente e não usei, de resto, foi tudo como indicado, brinquei apenas com o tecido, e em vez de fazer o vestido todo com o mesmo tecido, usei o estampado para a frente apenas e para todo o resto o tecido liso. Usei uma malha azul, que reaproveitei de uma t-shirt toda feita em pedaços que já tinha usado anteriormente, para fazer o viés da gola e dos bolsos. Quis também, dar um toque de cor discreto, e escolhi o azul porque é a cor preferida dela de momento.

The only thing I changed about it was skipping the elastic in the hem, all the rest I made as told, I just played a little with the fabric, using the print one on the front and the plain one for the rest of the piece. I used scraps from a previously refashioned t-shirt, to make the bias for the pockets and the neckband. I also wanted to add a shy pop of color, and I picked blue because it is my daughter's favorite color at the moment. 

Quando o experimentou, gostou tanto dele que apesar de não ter mais nada vestido por baixo, de ser mangas a 3/4, e estar o frio que está, ela não o quis despir. Já valeu a pena e eu fiquei super feliz por ter costurado algo que foi realmente feito com vontade.

When she tried it on, she liked it so much that even though it's so cold, though she had nothing underneath and the sleeves are 3/4 long, she didn't want to take it off. It was well worth it, and I was super happy that I sewed something really in the mood to do it. 

Sew Geeky Episode 9 TIM BURTON

Have you hear of Sew Geeky already? An idea brought to live by two super creative and talented ladies: Kat from Sew Chibi and Ari from Max California. If you need to know more about it read it over here. I can't consider myself a geek, but when those ladies allowed us to sew along to Tim Burton's inspired episode, I couldn't resist, because I just  L o v e  l o v e  l o v e  Burton's stuff. Besides, I had been wanting to use Sweeney Todd's beach outfits as an inspiration for a long, long time ago. This was just perfect!

And I knew just what to do. Let's start with the girl. Just a little disclaimer first: a couple of months ago I was offered a free pattern of the Peachy Dress & Playsuit from Felicity Sewing Patterns to review. All opinions are my own! That said, the girl's dress then.

I didn't want to do a dress just like the one in the movie, instead I wanted to get inspired by its colours. I also wanted a fresh dress and so the Peachy Dress & Playsuit pattern was just an obvious choice. This is the perfect dress (or playsuit) for the warmer days, too bad it's freaky cold outside and we couldn't do our own photoshoot in the beach too. Anyway, this pattern comes with six styling options (Basic Dress; Basic Playsuit with long or short pants; Dress, Playsuit or Romper with shoulder frills & elastic neckline; Dress, Playsuit or Romper with neck frill; Pillowcase Dress or Top; & Separate Shorts). Besides, it includes 2 cute pocket options, with a total of 4 tutorials on how to sew all possible combinations, with detailed photos and easy to follow instructions. I had zero problems sewing this up so I think it is a begginers good choice too. I am not a very ruffle person, but I'll admit these frills look just too cute on my little miss. She wasn't so happy about me pulling one of the shoulders down for the photo. 

I did the shoulder frills and elastic neckline option for the top, and the patch pockets option for the skirt. The skirt twirls beautifully because it is made out of 4 panels. Besides the elastic on the shoulders, it has a waist elastic too, which makes the top a little puffy and just adorable. I can't tell if I did size 2 or 3 anymore, but I followed the chart and it fits just great. Not to mention this little lady adored her new dress. Even though it was so cold when we did a very quick photoshoot indoors, she didn't want to take it out after all. She covered herself up with a blanket and said it'd be fine like that. The pattern comes sizes 2-14y and I've got the bug, I believe this is one of those patterns I could sew for myself and match my daughter! I love being small... at times!

I love it when I am surprised by a pattern. I was afraid I would end up doing something I didn't like because of the ruffles in this, but when picking carefully from the pattern pieces, and with your right choice of fabric, this became girly enough and pretty much satisfying for me. Having the girl's approval makes it even better. I believe this is the kind of dress every little girl loves. The blue fabric was in my stash. I made 2 dresses with it before, one for me and one for G. when she was only 1 year old. I can't believe there's still a piece of it left. The polka dots fabric was just a scrap, just enough for the pockets and to make the exact amount of bias that I needed. The small white flowers on black fabric, is actually a refashion from an old romper that was hanging in my piles for too long. 

So, what about the boy?! His was a very quick project. I looked through my stash, and I had a women sized striped t-shirt. The stripes were thinner than the inspiration, but the model was much smaller too, so it's porpotional. I didn't use a pattern for this one. I just used one of his 9M shirts (he's 6m now) to trace and cut the armholes. 

I kept the original hem, and only made a round shaped cut to turn it into a romper. I hemmed the seams of this cut and closed with metalic snaps (sewn to it). They were bad quality though and keep opening when my baby boy wears the romper. I will have to change it. Because I reused most of this shirt, and I kept the original neckline, I figured it'd be too wide for S. That was simple to solve though, I picked the neckline from another (white) shirt and sewn a patch inside, so it could cover the wide neckline and make it appropriate for my son. It turned out perfect. To match, I finished the armholes with bias made out of the same shirt. 

For the five minute photoshoot, I layered his romper with a white long sleeve shirt and tights He was looking so cute, but he kept on crying all along. I believe I've got like one or two photos where he's not crying. I also thought the romper would be bigger on him, because I was planning this to be a spring/summer piece, but I am not sure it'll fit 'till then. 

Signature Style |PR&P10|

Yet another week and I'm so glad that I was able to have a look to share with every theme from this season of Project Run & Play. After completing two outfits for the girl, it was only fair to get too done for the boy too. If you missed last weeks look click through the images below and it will take you there.

  

I love Signature Style week. For the first seasons that I sewed along I felt lost and trying to determine what my style is. I am so sure I found it already. And the outfit I am sharing today has it all. First of all, I refashioned. Well, if you can call using the leftovers from pieces you've cut in previous refashions a new refashion of its own, than yes, that's what I did. I used scraps from the black t-shirt I've used to make the briefs, leftovers from a white t-shirt and half leg pieces from a pair of red leggings that I had cut and use as shorts for a couple of years. Oh, I also used tights... Ah!

I started this  with the pants. S. really needed a few and this was a nice comfy knit I could use for him. It was in my stash forever and it wasn't much soI figured I should use it while he's still so little. I drafted these after some existing ones but I messed up while cutting and they got a little too tight. His sister's tights were using to create the cuffs, they are a very light grey. 

Then I did the shirt. I wanted to use light grey for the sleeves but I didn't have any =( so white it is. And then I realised I used the red-white-black combination again! My signature all over, right?! I used the Billy Bright Eyes Snappy Tee Shirt for the pattern, it is the my 3rd and all of them look pretty different (you can see the one I did for G. and the first I did for S.)... This one, has a bitof piping crossing the bodice just because the black fabric wasn't enough to cut the front piece so, I pieced it and used piping to create a design instead of crying over it. I have added the pocket again because I sthink it looks so cute!!! I did the 3M this time and sleeves are a bit too long for him, but all the rest fits just right. This is my favourite shirt for babies because of the snaps in the shoulder. I also love that it starts at 3m because most patterns I own start at bigger sizes and that's annoying when you want to sew for such a tiny person, right?!

the Boggie Boggie outfit... or so daddy said

Sewing series, tours, contests or sew alongs are my very favourite thing. And I love to take part in all of them for the fact that they motivate me to get things done. You might have noticed that this blog has been kinda slow lately... if it wasn't for the weekly glimses, it would be a desert blog. If you paid attention, the latest items I have blogged about were made either for a tour or a serie, etc.

Project Run & Play - season 10 - is running and I always enjoy to sew along with their themes. This season though, I haven't sewn specifically for PR&P. I had the themes in mind and combined them to other challenges I have been sewing for. I have mentioned countless times that my baby is a crying one, not often allowing mom to sew. In the little periods that he'd nap, he would wake up screaming to the sound of the machine. The last couple of days though, he has been an angel and mom has finally been able to accomplish a few items that were on the list. 

More than anything you will still see a lot of outfits made for a serie, or a tour... (yes, there will be a few things coming until the end of the year), I will often test a pattern if I get lucky to be selected... Today though, I am blogging about something that I did without any other than PR&P theme in mind. 

So, enough blah blah blah. This is the third week already, and the theme is denim. Again, what a great motivation it was. I spent a few weeks telling myself (and hubby) that S. needed some new pair of denim pants, but time was passing and I didn't do them until this week. It's not something really original, but it's what we needed and I am determined to sew clothes that my kids need instead of sewing endless pieces that will never be worn after the photoshoot. 

Last Sunday, after putting the kids to sleep, I drafted the pattern from a pair of existing jeans from his sister (and they have the fly sewn the right way for a girl which is rare). I only did the waistband differently, using a knit waistband because he has reflux and things should not be too tight around his waist. And honestly because it was so much easier to do! 

The pants have functional front and back pockets, and front and back leg pieces aren't sewn together in the center, instead it has a snaps closure on them to allow a quicker diaper changing, a feature that I really appreciate. Sewing this style of baby pants was a first time for me, without a pattern or any instructions and it worked so much better than I expected. I get so happy over those little things. I used left overs from a pair of adult jeans that were probably cut into shorts before. It was just enough for the little man's pants and I was able to use the original hem.

So, I had the pants. Now I needed something to go with it. I first thought about making a shirt I had just tested, but my little man will be 3M on the 2nd, and this pattern's smaller size was a 6-12M. I then thought about a AC-Snappy Tee because it starts at 3M (and I have actually finished one a few days ago - will be blogged soon - I made this one and this one before) but although that is a quick sew, I needed something easier, so I refashioned a plain white onesie that came from a friend. I had just come across this post and had to try something similar. I checked through my felt stash and improvised a little green monster with pretty much three of everything. I handstitched it to the onesie and my baby's new outfit was complete. When daddy saw it, he called it the boggie boggie outfit. So be it. I am sure  he'll wear both pieces to the max as long as they fit.

oh... and forgive the fact that I didn't iron the onesie before photos! I forgot!
