Sunshine Award

A few days ago, my bloggy friend Desarae from Gladness at Heart, nominated me for the Sunshine Award. I was surprised and so happy and honoured to be one of her choices. Thank you dear!

This talented lady, was one of my fellow competitors in the Rafashion Runway competition later last year, and she was also one of my guests during the last series of the Refashion Month.

First of all I will start by answering her questions...

Questions from Desarae for her Nominees:

1. What are some of your 'accomplishements'
(in the Jane Austen sense of the word: i.e. sewing, crocheting, drawing, instrument, singing...)

Many years ago I'd come up with an endless list. apparently I thought I could do anything and had to be always creating either way. Noways, it all comes down to sewing, my passion, one of the things I love most in life.

2. Where do you get your inspiration (sewing, crafting, outfits etc.) OTHER than Pinterest?

Pinterest isn't really my first stop when searching for inspiration. Usually, when I plan to sew something, I get inspired by everything. Maybe a collar I saw someone wearing when I stepped outside, or maybe that new pattern someone reviewed in their blog, or a theme, I love to get sewing with a theme as inspiration... it pushed my imagination and creativity a little further and I love it.

3. Name one new thing you want to make/try this year.

Finally learn how to use my serger... it's March already and I haven't given it a single try. Not happy!

4. Given the choice of anyone in the world (presently living),
whom would you want as a diner guest?

This isn't an easy one. But I guess (after a little thinking) that having Tim Burton and his wife Helen to have dinner with, would be terribly interesting.

5.  What are some things that make you really happy?

My family above all. Sewing, days spent in the country side, lakes, a hot chocolate, a good movie, reading...

6. Favorite book series?

I have too many, but Marion Zimmer Bradley ones have been some of the best I've read. =)

7. Favorite book made movie.
"The Perfume" - just too good.

8. Pet Peeves?

(sorry but I am not quite sure I understood the question - translating issues, perhaps - so I'll just pass here)

9. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?

Greece... no doubt!

10. When you were a kid what did you want to be when you grew up?
Would you still choose that?

I wanted to be a singer. I guess not anymore. I don't want to traumatize anyone... ahahaha

* And now, I'm just copy pasting from Desarae's blog (hope you won't mind!) *

The Sunshine Award is..

"For bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others
in the blogsphere."
Those who bring a little sunshine into our day!

THE RULES:
  • Thank and recognize the blogger(s) who nominated you (link back)
  • Post the award on your blog
  • Answer the questions given you by your Nominator.
  •  Nominate 5-10 other bloggers (no tag backs) and let them know you nominated them
  • Set 10 questions for your nominees to answer

But, since I am a little cheater I will not pick 5-10 blogs to nominee. There are too many blogs I love, and inspire me everyday for years. I don't want to leave anyone behind, I just thought it'd be fun to share my answers with you.

  1. Aww, I loved reading your answers! A singer, that is one of my hidden wishes too. :) We should make a duet and tour the world together in clothes we have made ourselves. Oh, I'm sorry, Pet Peeves is a term for something that bothers you...like someone who doesn't use their blinkers when driving, a sticky floor, trash laying around a park, a person's clothing tag sticking up...just little things that get on your nerves.

Good luck with using your serger! I still feel very intimidated at the thought of using one, so it will be a long time yet before I even look into buying one. :)

  2. Congratulations for the Sunshine Award, Magda :)
Love reading your answers - we have much more in common (down to the still-to-be used serger. Nevertheless, mine has been "on hold" for quite a few months ...)

My Weekly Refashion Share #1 |FREE pattern & tutorial|

If you're looking for the giveaway, please click HERE

A couple of months ago I made these two onesies for my baby boy. You can read more about them by clicking each photo.
They were both refashions from t-shirts, and ever since I made them, I've been wanting to share a tutorial. But not only a tutorial, you can have a FREE pattern, the one I drafted for my own. If you are expecting a baby, or have someone close to you that is, this would make a great gift, so go ahead, grab the PATTERN, print it and let's start sewing.
Note before you start: - Some pattern pieces need to be taped together. In order to do that, you have to match the number on the pattern and letters A to B. Example: piece 4A to piece 4B. Tape them matching the symbols on both pieces.  - I didn't realise it, but I've added two star pattern pieces, but just one is enough, of course. It is an optional add.  - All seams are 1/4" except for sleeves hem, which are 1" long.  - Just one more t…

Pocket Sling Tutorial

Back in September, I guest posted for Tasha over I Seam Stressed, while she was adjusting to her new life as mom of two. For that post, I've put up a tutorial on how to do your own pocket sling. Today's, I am bringing it home, since all we think about now is Christmas and all the handmade presents we have to make, i think this should be a good idea to gift a new mom or a pregnant relative/friend in your life. Enjoy!

Since my appearence here is due to Tasha's baby boy's birth, I thought I'd come up with something every mom should have. Especially when they are still newborns (even though I used mine until my little one was around one year old, then she just wanted to walk everywhere and we slowly left it aside). I am talking about a baby pocket sling, of course.

I prefer pocket slings over ring slings by far, it gives me a better sense of security, but that might be just me. And today I will share a tutorial on how to do your own.

So, the first thing you have to do is…

The Dreaming of Spring Blazer |FREE PDF Pattern| day 1 of the Sew along

EDITED: You have until the 30th of November to link your blazer to the flickr group to have a chance to win a free pattern for the Bubble Shorts pattern by DoGuincho. Read more about it here.

If you are new to my blog, you might not know that I have promised to share a pattern for the blazer I made my daughter when I competed in the Sew Off. If you were following already back then, well, I am sorry I kept you waiting for so long. If you haven't yet, you might want to check out the blazers my friend testers made. You'll love them, I'm so sure!

It was about time to give something back, since I've been getting so much from this wonderful sewing community, and keep up with my word. After all, I've always heard it's better late than never, right? And it's FREE so: please don't complain.

This pattern will fit a 18 months to 2 year old, but I believe it has space to grow - especially on the sleeves department. I guess it really depends on your child. Mine was…
