Há algum tempo que ando com esta ideia em mente, e depois de ver os podcasts da Naná do blog Mãos de Vera, lá me decidi e fiz o meu próprio video também. Este é o primeiro podcast do House of Estrela, em português, como se quer. Vamos ver no que isto dá, e bem... espero que gostem, mesmo com o meu jeito trapalhão para estas coisas. Neste primeiro episódio, falo-vos um pouco sobre mim e de como comecei nisto das costuras. Faço referência aos projetos que tenho entre mãos e algumas coisas que tenho planeadas fazer.

I've started a podcast of my own after thinking it over for a while. Unfortunately it is for my portuguese readers only, since we lack on podcasts on our own language when it comes to sewing. I mention a few things in the video, such how I started sewing, what sewing machine I use, what projects I am involved with right now, what things I am sewing and crocheting. Phresh Blazer #4

No último post mencionei o blazer que a G. vestiu para as fotos das calças. Já é tempo de vos falar um pouco mais sobre ele. Foi feito em Agosto, mas nestes últimos meses, houve muita coisa que ficou por mostrar, porque para além de ter costurado menos, a vontade de fotografar, editar, escrever sobre as peças era menos ainda. Usei, pela quarta vez o molde Phresh Blazer da Winter Wear Designs. É o terceiro que faço para a G. e para não variar, foi feito a partir de material reciclado. 

In my last post I mentioned the blazer G. was wearing in the photoshoot. It is about time to tell you about it. It was made in August, but there has been a lot made in the latest months that wasn't posted at all, because not only have I sewing less, the feeling of taking the photos, editing and posting was missing too. I used, for the fourth time the Phresh Blazer pattern by Winter Wear Designs. This is the third I made for G. and, obviously, it was refashioned. 

A peça original eram umas calças de senhora que eu até gostava bastante, mas eram brancas e eu raramente visto branco em t-shirts, quanto mais em calças. Eu tenho filhos pequenos e mais não é preciso dizer, certo?! Adoro este molde e não me canso de dizer que é daqueles para repetir e ter sempre à mão. Desta vez, usei a opção sem folhos atrás, sem bolsos e manga comprida/normal. Alterei um pouco a manga para que ficasse mais apertada, pois acho a original muito larga para o meu gosto. 

The original piece was a pair of women's pants that I actually liked a lot, but they were white, and I barely wear a white t-shirt, what to say about a pair of pants. I have small children and that tells pretty much all, right? I love this pattern, you already know that, this is one to use over again and a go to pattern. This time, I used the back ruffles free version, no pockets and the normal long sleeve. I adjusted it though, narrowing it a bit since I believe the original is too wide for my taste. 

Adoro ver como esta peça lhe dá um ar de mulherzinha. E uma coisa que me tenho vindo a aperceber, é que adorooooooo fazer casacos e afins. Poderão parecer mais intimadores à partida, mas são muito divertidos e gratificantes de fazer. Já para não falar do facto de geralmente serem das peças mais caras no pronto a vestir, e no feito à mão, não se notar uma diferença tão grande de outros peças diferentes. 

I just love to see how lady like she looks with this on. And one thing I've been noticing latelt, is that I loveeeeee making outter wear and so. They might seem harder at first sight, but they're fun and gratifying to make. Not to mention the fact that they are usually so much more expansive than other pieces in the RTW clothes, but not that much in the handmade items. 

Jocole October Blog Tour |Girls Wideleg Pants|

Bem vos disse que Outubro ia ser mais movimentado que os últimos meses, senão vejam, hoje é a terceira publicação em dias consecutivos. Hoje, faço parte da pattern tour de Outono da Jocole, e como sempre adorei calças largas, aproveitei e usei o molde Girl'sWideleg Pants para fazer umas para a minha filhota. 

I told you October would see me more often around here, didn't I? This is my third post in a row in the last three days. Today, I am part of Jocole's Fall Tour, and since I've always loved wideleg pants, I used their Girl's Wideleg Pants pattern to make my daughter a new ones. 

Usei um xadrez vermelho e preto que tinha há muito tempo e que me sobrou depois de fazer a saia quando estava grávida (criei uma peça matchy matchy sem querer). O tecido não é nem fino nem grosso, simplesmente perfeito para esta estação, e adoro ver como as calças lhe ficam. Gosto do corte simples, largo, claro. O molde traz duas opções de bolsos, um na costura e o outro é em aplicação, ambos na frente, mas eu saltei qualquer um deles. Estas calças foram uma daquelas coisas que se costuram num instante e que é sempre gratificante. Neste caso, foram apenas 3 peças a cortar: frente, trás e cintura. O único que precisou de mais atenção foi o padrão do tecido que pedia o cuidado de fazer coincidir o xadrez, e até isso correu lindamente. A cintura foi feita com tecido que aproveitei de um casaco de homem e é malha canelada fina. 

I used a black and red plaid fabric from my stash. I still had a little left from the skirt I made while pregnant (and now I have a matchy matchy piece even though I didn't aim for it when I started). 

This is a midweight fabric, perfect for fall, and I love the look of the pants on G. I like the design, the wide legs, of course. The pattern also comes with two pocket options: inseams and patch front pocket, but I skipped both options. This is one of those quick and gratifying project that you can make in a blink. In this case I had 3 pattern pieces only to cut: front, back and waist band. The only thing that needed me to pay attention was matching the fabric pattern and even that went smoothly. I used leftovers from a man's hoodie to make the waist band, and it is a thin rib knit. 

Tirámos as nossas fotos num parque e ela tratou de colocar o conforto das calças a teste, e estas passaram com distinção. Super confortáveis mesmo para miúdas irrequietas e trepadoras. O que quer dizer que de certeza que veremos mais destas por aqui a qualquer momento. Mas fotos em parques não é tarefa fácil, 

We took our photos at a park, and she has put theird comfort to good test, but it passed easily. They are super comfy, even for unstopable and climbing little girls. Which means we will, definately, see more of these at any time over here. Taking photos on a park isn't an easy task though.

Hack a Pattern ITCH TO STITCH Birthday Tour

Têm tido saudades minhas? Bem sei que isto tem andado paradinho, mas estou de volta, e com várias coisas para os próximos dias. A marca de moldes Itch to Stitch está a celebrar o seu primeiro aniversário e organizou uma tour, para a qual reuniu algumas bloggers e as convidou a "atacar" um dos seus moldes, dando total liberdade para o alterar, misturar com qualquer outro, etc, etc, etc. Pois sim, faço parte desse grupo de bloggers e escolhi o molde Marbella dress para trabalhar. 

Have you missed me? I know this has been kinda slow for a while, but I am back, with a new creations for the next few days. The pattern company Itch to Stitch is celebrating its first birthday and has organized a tour, with a few bloggers that were invited to hack one of ITS pattern, being totally free to alter, mix and match with another pattern we already own, etc. So yes, I am part of those bloggers and I picked the Marbella dress pattern to work with. 

O que me chamou à atenção no Marbella, foi a parte superior do vestido. Adoro as chamadas princess seams (as costuras na frente e trás do corpete que lhe dão forma), o decote canoa, e o próprio desenho do molde que permite um color blocking caso queiramos brincar com as cores, o que foi o meu caso. Tenho imensos tecidos que guardei da minha fase mais gótica, e que me dão pena, ver, uma vez e outra sem uso, há muitos anos. Juntei um veludo, comprado há uns 9 anos numa visita à França, e o Marbella, para fazer um novo "macacão" para mim. As rendas nas cavas, fui buscá-las à minha caixa de materiais e saiu de uma camisa antiga que era da minha sogra. 

Why did I chose the Marbella? Well, I love the princess seams on it, the boat neck and the yokes on the front and back that allow for color blocking, in case you want to blay around with color, which is what I did by the way. I have a lot of fabric in my stash, from when I was a bit more gothic interested, and I feel so sad to see them sitting there, over and over for years. I grabbed two velvet pieces I bought in a visit to France, 9 years ago, and made myself a new romper. The lace on the arm holes were of course refashioned, they came from my MIL's old button up shirt. 

Para a parte de baixo, fui preguiçosa para procurar um molde e usei um que já estava cortado, o que usei para as calças de grávida que fiz. Cortei apenas na altura das pernas para ficar como eu queria. Ficou um bocadinho esquisito, não é? Isso deve-se ao fato aqui da chica esperta se ter esquecido de lhe juntar os valores de costura para a cintura, o que originou um macacão super apertado ali nas partes. =( O molde inclui 12 tamanhos diferentes, e obviamente que para mim teve de ser o mais pequeno, e apesar de trazer moldes para os diferentes tamanhos de copa, para mim que quase não tenho mamas, foi preciso ajustar um bom bocado. Também tenho sempre dificuldade com a parte das costas, pois tenho-as muito profundas e com uma cintura de vespa. 

For the bottom of the shorts, I was lazy to search for a culottes pattern, and went with one that was already printed and cut out. It's the same I used for my maternity pants, I just cut it in lenght to suit my need. But it looks kinda weird, right? That's because I forgot to add seam allowances to the waist line of the shorts and they turned out a bit too tight on me. =( Also, the pattern comes with a size range of 12 numbers from 00 to 20, of course I had to pick the smallest for myself, and even with cups A/B/C/D separate pattern pieces, I had to adjust because, well, I basicly have no breasts at all. I always have trouble with fitted clothes because I also have a very "deep back", and a very thin waistline. 

A parte de trás fecha com um fecho invisível, que no meu não ficou tão invisível assim, mas culpo o tecido. Quando não está vestido o fecho não se vê, fica mesmo escondido, mas uma vez que o visto, fica assim. E entre uma versão com ou sem forro, eu escolhi a segunda. E pronto, foi isto. Lá fiz qualquer coisinha para mim, que me fez recordar um bocadinho de quem eu já fui e que por vezes deixa saudades. 

The back closes with an invisible zipper, which doesn't look so invizible here, but I blame it on the fabric. If I'm not wearing it, it is completely hidden, but when I put it on it looks like this. Between a lined version and an unlined one I went with the second option. And, that's it. I made something for myself, which brought me back to past days, and reminded me a little of who I used to be, which I miss from time to time.

Hoje é um dia especial. A nossa querida Sara, de Made by Sara celebra hoje o seu aniversário, e juntamente com algumas amigas, quisemos fazer-lhe também a ela uma grande surpresa. Porque sim, porque ela merece e porque sabe tão bem fazer alguém feliz. A Sara, para quem ainda não conhece (haverá ainda alguém?), é mãe a tempo inteiro de 3 lindas crianças, e uma excelente costureira. Uma pessoa informada, curiosa e muito generosa, sempre disposta a ajudar quem precise dela. Costura a um ritmo alucinante e cria coisas maravilhosas e acima de tudo super originais. 

Today is a special day. Our dear Sara, from  Made by Sara celebrates her birthday today, and together with a few friends, we wanted to make her a little surprise. Just because, she deserves it and because it feels good to make someone else happy. Sara, for those who don't know her yet (is still anyone yet who doesn't?), it´s a stay at home mom of 3 lovely children, and an excellent seamstress. She's a well informed person, curious and very generous too, always ready to help whoever needs her. She sews at an amazing pace and she makes wonderful and above all, super original things. 

Eu descobri o blog da Sara através da minha série Refashion Month*, como podem até ver num comentário neste post. Na altura, lembro-me que o blog dela não era tão mexido como agora, e tão pouco se centrava tanto em costuras. No entanto, tem sido delicioso ver como tem crescido, e como a própria Sara se tem dedicado a esta paixão que é a costura, e que partilhamos. Gosto do seu bom gosto em termos de escolhas de tecidos, mas também gosto muito do seu olhar sobre alguns moldes, que vistos à partida não daria nada por eles. A sua capacidade de os reinventar agrada-me muito. A Sara tem demasiadas coisas excelentes para escolher apenas algumas preferidas. Mas vou mencionar uma em particular, que me inspirou a fazer o vestido do último aniversário da minha filha. É o vestido anita ou ice cream que fez para a sua pequenita. Desde a primeira vez que o vi, que adorei o vestido e fiquei com ele na memória, à espera de uma oportunidade para fazer algo semelhante. E foi em Junho que a oportunidade chegou. Publicarei mais tarde sobre o meu vestido.

I've discovered Sara's blog through Refashion Month*, the series I host,as portuguese readers can check in a comment in this post. Back then I remember her blog wasn't as busy as it is right now, and it wasn't as centered in sewing as it is nowadays. Despite all that, it has been delicious to see how it has been growing, and as Sara herself has dedicated to this sewing passion that we both share. I like her great taste in fabric choices, but also her eye through patterns, some of which I would just pass blank if it wasn't for her capability to reinvent them, that is something I love. Sara has made too many gorgeous things to just pick a few favourite, but there's one I have to mention, because it isnpired me to make my daughter's last birthday dress. It is the Ice Cream dress she made for her youngest. Since I first saw it, I loved it and kept it in mind, waiting for an oportunity to make something similar. And that day came back in June. I will blog about it later.

Agora, especialmente a ti Sara: Antes de mais nada, muitos parabéns! Espero que tenhas gostado da nossa surpresa. Obrigado por seres quem/como és. Obrigado por tudo o que tens partilhado connosco, principalmente o teu vasto conhecimento e atenção. Admiro-te muito e orgulho-me de poder chamar-te de amiga. Um beijinho enorme cheio de carinho. Lá para quarta feira espreita a caixa do correio! ;)

September Wrap Up

As coisas andaram praticamente paradas aqui no blog. Foi da falta de vontade + disponibilidade + tempo para tal, o meu S. é um verdadeiro furacão. A mana não foi nada assim e tem-me custado acompanhar o ritmo de forma a sobrar um cantinho para mim e as minhas coisas. Por esse mesmo motivo, tenho andado mais frustrada do que o normal, e deu-me assim uns ventos fortes e acabei por cortar o meu longo cabelo que-eu-nunca-corto, mas assim mesmo curtinho. Mas, Setembro ainda cheira a férias (uma vez que a G. só começou a pré a 21 e tudo) e por aqui houve tempo para muito. Um aniversário, um casamento, muita brincadeira em parques, diversão, bons momentos em família e com amigos. A G. recebeu as duas amiguinhas da escola anterior em casa e adorou. Foi também requisitada para outros 3 encontros. Houve muito brincar ao faz de conta, onde comemos grandes pequenos almoços, e onde a boneco e o crocodilo celebraram o seu casamento também. O S. trepa tudo o que pode. A G. dormiu sem proteções na cama pela primeira vez. Perdi três dias a re-organizar roupa no quarto deles, uma vez que o tempo está a mudar. A minha G. tem mais sapatos que uma loja inteira. No casamento, foi queimada por um cigarro (já está bem!). Eu pouco costurei, mas ao menos pude fazer mais uns quadrados para a nossa manta, embora bem menos que o mês passado. 

Things have been really slow around this blog, it was lack of will + disponibility + time for it, my S. is a true hurricanne. His sis wasn't like that at all and it's been hard for me to follow such rythm in order to be able to do any of my stuff. For that reason, I have been feeling a bit more frustrated than usual, so I was blown away and cut my long hair, which-I-never-cut, really really short. September still smells like holidays (G. only started preschool on the 21st), and we had enough time for a lot. A birthday, a wedding, a lot of playing in parks, fun, good family and friends moments. G. recieved her two friends from the previous school for a playdate and she loved it. She was also requested to 3 other playdates. There was a lot of pretend play, where we ate big breakfasts, and her doll and crocodile celebrated a wedding too. S. climbs everything he reaches. G. slept for the first time, without her security bars. I lost three days trying to organize their clothes as time is changing. My G. has more shoes than an entire shop. At the wedding, she was burnt by a cigarette (she's fine now!). I haven't been sewing much, but at least I was able to grow my granny squares blanket, although not as much as last month. 

Quanto a publicações no blog, isto andou mesmo às moscas. À parte o wrap up the Agosto, apenas publiquei a minha tentativa de concluir alguns pins selecionados do Pinterest, e o vestido que fiz para a G. levar ao casamento dos meus primos. Carreguem nas fotos para vos levar ao post original. 

When it comes to the blog, it has been really off. Apart from the August wrap up post, there were only two more, my attempt to make a few of the pins I selected from Pinterest, and the dress I made for G. to wear at my cousins wedding. Click the photos to take you to the original post.
